Nice looking restaurant
The wait in between dishes can seem awhile.
Tables are close together so it’s hard to have personal, private conversation.
Laura was fabulous for our table for 10- a special dinner for my daughter!
Fabulous rooftop dining
Nice atmosphere and beautiful views. The receptionist was able to accommodate our request to dine outside which we appreciated. Servers are very polite and nice but would benefit from more detailed knowledge of menu items and wine choices.
We love this place. It’s perfect for foodies with food sensitivities who still want delicious flavor -filled dining.
Wonderful evening! Good recommendations from
Everything is always flawless. What more can be said?
This was one of the best dining experiences I've had. The food was excellent, not only did it taste amazing but was presented perfectly. The ambiance is beautiful; mating the feel of an airport lounge and the inside of a luxury aircraft. It is done in a way that is elegant and inviting while feeling vey classy. The host and our server made sure to ask about and accommodate any food allergies info our party. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone living in or visiting the Portland area.
Food was great but service was slow and atmosphere was very loud. We had to take some of our food to go because it took so long.
Great Asian fusion restaurant!
My wife and I hosted our post wedding reception dinner for friends and family. The food was excellent, service was excellent. Would recommend this restaurant for any special event. The only downside was that with a large group we could only assign the bill to two credit/debit cards. This should be something announced with the reservation not at the end of the meal.
The companion and I had dinner here earlier this week. It was generally a good experience. The tables are a little too close together, and the noise level too loud for our taste. Regardless, we had great service, and the menu items we selected were mostly enjoyable. We started with the crunchy crab and avocado sushi roll. We both thought it was excessively salty. We couldn’t taste the crab or avocado because of the salt level. We expressed our opinion to our server, after we had consumed the entire roll. She seemed disappointed that we hadn’t simply asked for it to be taken back to the kitchen for it to be remade. She also said that we wouldn’t be charged for it, although we insisted we weren’t looking to have the charge removed from our bill. We only wanted the chef to know we weren’t in love with it. We always presume that food coming out of the kitchen is prepared just exactly as the chef believes it should be prepared (seasoned). Our next two menu items were much more enjoyable. We had the bibimbap, which was completed table side in a hot stone bowl. It was very tasty, although we expected just a little more beef than we received in the dish. The hit of the night was the Thai sausage fried rice dish. It was nothing short of spectacular. All things considered, we would definitely return to this restaurant. From our experience, it seems they really want you to enjoy the meal.
The food and drinks here were phenomenal, but the service left a lot to be desired. I went here for a (quiet) bachelorette party dinner and called ahead of time to request a window table. We were technically sat at a window, but it was barely two feet tall with a screen over it. Not what we were expecting when coming to a restaurant specifically for its view. Our waiter was very kind when he was around, but after ordering our first round of food/drinks we did not see him again for about 30 min. We also had to ask multiple times for our appetizers to to be brought out, which we eventually got 2nd to last. One of our sushi rolls was also brought to the table uncut and without a knife; which when sharing between a group quickly got messy and interesting as we got tired of trying to flag down a waiter. We noticed the table next to us also had the issue of a whole role being served, so perhaps there was some technique of eating it we were all ignorant to.
The house cocktails were delicious, and so was the food, especially the fried rice with sausage as well as the pork belly. The noise level was great for conversation and the decor was modern without feeling "cold".
From the beginning it seemed that our experience would be different than all of the many other times we’ve been to Departure. The table we reserved was not ready. After a wait, they announced that we were regulars on a special occasion- where we were shown to an interior table near the bar with our 13 year old son on his graduation. I suppose that the window seats w a view were reserved for tourists. We all ordered the Chef’s tasting menu, which was fair when compared to all of the other tasting menus that Portland has to offer. Dishes went from very light to very heavy and all were too salty. Kind of like an upscale Korean restaurant turned Applebee’s.
On the other hand, service was far improved from prior times.
Beautiful place, a bit too noisy, but all in all fantastic. We had the chef’s tasting menu and every dish was just great, even the desserts - even though by then we had already eaten too much. We will definitely be back if we’re in Portland again.
Excellent dining experience! Very hip and cool interior with beautiful city views and great rooftop bar! Food was excellent. A lot of Spicy dishes but very fresh and nicely presented. Interior decor is awesome! Great wine list as well.
I was disappointed to learn that my father asked for a cake to come out for my wife's birthday and the person on the phone said they would take care of it, but that never occurred. Our food was also taken away to get boxed up and after 5-8 minutes, our check was finally returned to us but without our box of food. We left before realizing that this happened, but were already late to our next event so we never went back up to the restaurant to inquire.
The service was incredible. Great wine pairings to go along with an impeccable meal.
I had heard how bad the service was, but was surprised it was really THAT bad... we made reservations for my daughter's 18th birthday and brought a total of five people. When we arrived they asked who's birthday it was- and that was that. Never even acknowledged it in anyway. And more oddly, sat us at a table that had one of the big patio umbrellas fully across the place setting of someone in our party... despite there being many open tables (and it was 9:00pm and they didn't get busier while we were there). I asked to move to another open table and that was quite the drama- though they did it. Then at dessert four of the group ordered a tart (I ordered the ganache). The first person went to take a bite of the tart with the spoon (only utensil provided) and it shot off the plate and onto the ground. I assumed it was user error and told the server what happened and they said they'd replace it... which they did... however, in the meantime- all three other people struggled with this weird dessert. It clearly needed a fork and knife and a bowl and a hard hat- pieces were flying everywhere- it was like a joke. We were laughing quote hard at the absurdity of the item. Though they all said that once they could catch a piece of the wily dessert that it was flavorful. The server eventually brought him another tart which he gingerly ate. And despite saying they wouldn't charge us for it- they did. The service here is inattentive, slow and ridiculous.
The service here was excellent. The food quality, however was not the greatest. We had to send back our appetizer and got it back over cooked. My dinner, the crab stuffed salmon was overcooked and the crab was a crab salad of some sorts.
Efficient lovely service, Crystal was a fantastic server! The food was amazing with the exception of the massaman curry being a little unbalanced in flavor, and lacking protein for a main course. Still very appreciative of a full vegan menu. Cocktails were fantastic, highly recommend the Madame Cheng. Only actual complaint is the bathrooms are ICE COLD, y’all need some heaters in there. Otherwise lovely fancy dinner!
The wings were INCREDIBLE. I would go out of my way to have them again. Everything was delicious but the wings were ridiculously good.
Pretty awful service, good food, great view. We sat for 30 min before our waitress came to our table. She was really helpful with ordering, but was essentially MIA for the rest of the meal. All of our food came out fairly quickly, however. Food was very good--we ordered the pork belly, crunchy crab roll, garlic chicken, and pork buns. It then took a good 20 min for our waitress to return to clear our places and give us dessert menus, another 10 min until she took our dessert order, and at least 30 min until our dessert came out without any explanation or checking in while we were waiting. Dessert was probably one of the best we've ever had (we got the citrus bar and the chocolate ganache), but we were so frustrated by the lack of service that it kind of ruined the whole experience for us. Restaurant didn't seem overly busy, and the lack of explanation for the slowness was frustrating. Overall pretty disappointed by the whole experience.
The food was outstanding! Superior service and beautiful atmosphere.
Genevieve was wonderful taking care of us It was our Anniversary dinner and first time at Departure. Very pleased we chose this Restaurant. All service was Great. Food was Tasty and filling .Great views also
Departure was AH-MAZING! the food, the drinks, the service & space! all amazing! Will definitely be dining there again the next time we visit Portland!
All dishes took nearly an hour after ordering to come out. Restaurant was not full so couldn’t understand why the delay was so long. And no apologies when it did finally arrive at the table.
This place is overly trendy and offers a young, club vibe, but the food doesn’t deliver, and the views are restricted to one small area. Overpriced and bland “Asian” food, and a lot of people coming to see and be seen - but not in a great venue for dinner. We were dressed up and treated well but watched others who weren’t. Do not recommend.
First off get reservations! Very popular. Second of all my group and I were impressed with the level of service and professionalism. I have severe food allergies and always have to review menus before I can go to restaurants. The staff asked me at check in any food allergies my group may have. They remembered and told the staff so every time a dish was brought to our table they let me know if I could eat it or not, the same with all sauces. This made my dining experience much less stressful and the food was amazing!!!
My group and I dressed up for the night and got some gorgeous pictures of the views and each other.
Very attentive wait staff, lovely atmosphere, tasty food! Not as expensive as I thought it would be.
Great view, otherwise very overpriced for what you get. Staff trained to speak to 5-star cuisine and flavors, but food does not live up to the expectation set. Include a 2.5% surcharge to ensure top notch waiting staff - AKA we expect you to pay extra for your experience with us, which I find off-putting. Great fried rice, sub-par chicken rolls. Only split check a max of two ways which is difficult for larger parties. Owner won’t turn on heaters outside for fear of umbrellas catching fire (so why have heaters?). Would only go back for special occasion/drinks, but even then, confident you can find a comparable place with better food and a nice patio that doesn’t tack on an additional charge for service.
Good for dining! Crowded restroom. It is not powder room but hmm...
Beautiful restaurant with incredible views. Disappointing that nothing was done by the restaurant for the birthday celebration (which they were informed of via the reservation, and while checking IDs). For that price tag, I expect at least a dessert.
Went there to meet old friends and everything was lovely,
The food was fantastic, as were the cocktails. Our primary server was a little short on personality, but his helpers who delivered items to the table were great.
Food was unique and out of this world. Service was first class, they kept a very close eye on us and were right there for our every need. The food was so good it practically melted in your mouth!
The food was amazing! Melts in your mouth! We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the Snapper, my partner was very pleased as this was more traditional! Pork belly melted in your mouth! And the chicken had amazing flavors. Very cool place to go to to just have a drink and chill with friends as well.
We had a great time at Departure for my husband’s birthday. We went on a Monday evening and it was very busy, but I used OpenTable to reserve us a table and it worked great (definitely recommend the reservation.. there were people checking in in front of us and there was a two hour wait without a reservation). The food was AMAZING. We tried several items and they were delicious and plenty to share. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts (yum). The views are wonderful and if you are looking for a quiet ambience this is not the restaurant for you. It isn’t loud persay, but definitely energetic, but personally I love that. Highly recommend all around. You will not be disappointed. Also the entire staff that we came into contact with, was super nice and very friendly. They were willing to go out of their way to explain what everything was on the menu and even to describe what the restaurant was modeled from (which is an old cruiseship.. who knew).
My wife and I went here for dinner to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. I would not recommend this place for a quiet romantic dinner. It was load and very busy. Are reservation was at 5:15 pm so that could have been part of the issue because happy hour was from 4 to 6.
The food was very good but the portions were small for the price. This place seems to be a upscale Happy Hour place for the younger crowd.
Very very dope! Dug the rooftop bar for good view and awesome cocktails. Then take it inside for some delish food.
