Located atop the historic Meier & Frank building, Departure Restaurant + Lounge offers modern Asian cuisine with panoramic city views and global cocktails. Executive Chef Gregory Gourdet creates dishes using traditional ingredients and cooking techniques from throughout Asia. Of course, Oregon's seasonal bounty plays an integral part in the dining experience, as well. The space designed by Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture offers diners two rooftop decks with views overlooking downtown Portland, the Willamette River and Mt. St. Helens.
The West Deck lounge is open, weather permitting throughout the season on a first come, first serve basis.

Fun experience! A little loud in the dining room. We were at a longer table, so it was difficult to hear/talk with folks on the other end (only 4 of us there). Food was pretty good, but a little less than my last visit. Our server was AMAZING!

The food was amazing, however the service was disappointing. Initially we were sat down and given menus quickly. Then we waited a long long time for our waitress to come back to place an order. To the credit of the kitchen, dishes came out promptly but it was just so hard to get service from our waitress. At one point I resorted to asking the nice man filling waters for the dessert menu and our check. The waitress was a nice person, it just seemed like they are understaffed.

Table was ready for our reservation, service was very attentive and offered suggestions. Server was patient while we decided on our own what we wanted to do outside of his suggestions. Loved that the starter chicken was able to be adjusted to account for # of guess in our party.

Great location, sat outside on the patio and had an awesome view of the City. Service was a little slow for the size of the crowd but staff was nice. The food was very good, we had the skirt steak, pork belly, crab roll and shrimp fried rice. It’s a bit eclectic, fun and a trendy vibe $$$.

Loved the Octopus and Berries and cream dessert!! I definitely recommend those items and also the lu over the wall Portland drink! I wasn’t very hungry but these items filled me up and made my Portland experience that much better. Our waiter was very friendly also and accommodated my husband since he had an almond allergy. We will definitely be back when we visit again.

This was our third visit to Departure and it was even better than we remembered. We highly recommend the ISHIYAKI steak. Best thing we’ve ever tasted. Go early and have a cocktail at the rooftop bar, and snag some Insta photos at the same time 😉

Great service and wonderful chic ambiance. I have been coming here for years. It is one of my favorite spots to chill especially when the weather is nice to be outside on the rooftop bar lounge area. If you are in PDX definitely a place to check out.

Hip, Cool and innovative but increasingly LOUD. Broiled chicken was moist and flavorful , broccoli remarkable. Reasonable sake by the glass selection.

Great food. Everything was so vibrant and the ingredients were sooo fresh. It was my girlfriends birthday and I wished they would have done something special for her since we spent about 200 but I wasn’t expecting it. Would definitely go again, super tasty. Oh yeah, drinks were great too except the tangerine and tequila one, neither of us enjoyed that one.

Departure is consistently great in every way. fresh, vibrant, spicy good - the vegan and gluten free menus are excellent. the cocktails are inventive and fun.

in a varied culinary city, Departure is still in my top 5, and where I take out of town friends and have celebrations.

THANK YOU Chef GG and everyone!

Beautiful view, nice space and good service. Food was good, however, I was expecting more from the sushi for the price. It was not as flavorful or ascetically pleasing for what we paid. Specifically the cut sushi rolls.

i enjoyed everything about Departure. the only thing that could be changed is how my server was shamelessly salesy from the beginning. it was a bit embarrassing in front of my guests. he didn't even offer to comp my drink for my bday celebration or provide a slice of cake with a candle for me.

What a great (different) experience!
The entryway makes you feel as though you’re either walking the runway to a spaceship... or in line at Disney’s Space Mountain.
Hostesses were friendly upon greeting, interior decor was reminiscent of the golden era of airplane travel, along with scenic views of the downtown Portland skyline.
Our server was polite and polished and gave us some good recommendations from the drink menu.
She advised us that the food was “sharing style” and about 2 items per person was good. (So we got 4 items and left with a doggie bag- 3 would have been sufficient.)
Overall this place was fun and a great experience. I’d highly recommend it to others visiting the downtown Portland area.

The food is amazing, the environment is very stylish and the service is professional. Unfortunately when the bill came there was a $4 surcharge with an explanation that this was necessary because of minimum wage increases. Portland, unlike my hometown of Seattle, doesn’t even offer a $15 min wage, it’s something like $11/hr which is not going to cover Portland rents. This was an obvious political statement by management to turn customers against the movement for a living wage. They could easily raise prices by 10 cents a dish, which would be unnoticeable at a restaurant this expensive, but instead chose to blame minimum wage for the cost. I run a business and pay my workers more than minimum wage without tacking on some bogus charge. Wages, like food and rent are part of the cost of running a restaurant. I won’t be supporting this chain in the future if they continue to scapegoat employees trying to survive in an expensive city like Portland. They clearly spent a fortune on the physical space, and it’s impressive, but they didn’t say they had to tack on $4 to pay for downtown rent, fancy lighting, and smoky mirrors because that’s obviously the cost of doing business. Instead they blame workers trying to survive in Portland on a little more than $20k a year. Shame on them!
