Demun Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
We wanted a special meal on 24th December for five. Quiet, comfortable and unique menu. This was the perfect match. Everyone had particular yearn for ??? The menu and daily specials fulfilled our group’s varied taste. House-mad crab rangoon had visible pieces of crab with a crisp wrap. The crab cakes thrilled two years of our party. Another cried when last mussel was in his mouth. Nice size order and he still wanted more. “The Board ” appetizer was so UN-St Louis in such a wonderful way. Service was attentive and helpful with recommendations. We apologized for their having to work on Christmas Eve but thanked them for wonderful meal and great ambiance
We had a good meal there. They made a couple of minor mistakes with the dishes, but nicely offered a comp dessert to make up for the problem. A little too dark (during dinner) and loud music made talking a challenge in the space. Pluses: they worked with us to accommodate us getting to a show, had a surprising, nice wine recommendation and food came out quickly. Will definitely return for another evening to try other items on the menu.
have been to the Oyster Bar previously and while I love the ever changing menu we all felt that the selection of items was quit different than we previously experienced. Love the cocktails and the waiter who has been there for a very long time was his usually wonderful helpful self. we will be back soon.
Wonderful selection of oysters! Had a mix of fresh and grilled and the sauces to go with the oysters were terrific! Sat outside on the corner of the charming neighborhood in 90+ degree heat but a bottle of wine helped cool us off. Waitress was friendly and helpful as we made our selections. Food and fish were fresh and well prepared. Would definitely visit again!
So disappointed! They must be under new management. The menu is significantly different than before and much less appealing. Service was totally lacking. Unfriendly, unhelpful wait staff. Food quality just okay. Something major has changed here. This used to be one of our favorite restaurant but I won't be back.
It was a beautiful setting and night, but clearly the kitchen was behind, as was all service. Server seemed annoyed with us. After the appetizer and drink took so long, we decided to not even order dinner. That's ok because no one even asked if we wanted to order dinner as they whisked away the menus. We left starving and had to hit a drive through restaurant on the way home. In the end the server was even embarrassed and comp'd us a glass of wine.
We choose the bar from OpenTable app. We had not visited neighborhood for few years. The Caesar salad was very good. Dressing was perfect amount applied and taste. My ceviche had shrimp and bay scallops. Texture was wonderful. I prefer more lime taste yet the taste was very good. Crab cakes were okay but not special like ceviche. Desert was raspberry chocolate chip cookies spoonful of a lemon icing. I was too full and still ate every bite. We will be back
We arrived early & had a reservation. Lovely seating and all tables have a great view. Ordered mussels which were wonderful. Salad & shrimp were not so great. Fried shrimp had no seasoning or taste. We will go back for the mussels, and wine. Mixed drinks were just ok. Service was friendly but not prompt.
We went for happy hour. The restaurant was featuring $1 oysters 11AM to 7 PM. We had to eat at the bar to get the HH price. The bar itself was old and a bit sticky. The finish was coming away from the surface, not nice. There were three types of oysters, all from the west coast. We had 6 of each type. They were delicious. The oysters, however, were served alone. No seafood forks, no lemons, no sauces, no crackers, no horseradish. When asked for lemons and maybe sauce (as well as utensils) the server ( I think it was an owner) produced what appeared to be a medicine bottle with an eye dropper. He described the contents as a reduced sauce with many ingredients including apple juice. Being adventurous I tried a couple of drops on one oyster...good! There were a few couples from the neighborhood enjoying the oysters with us. I would go back for HH. The oysters were delicious and the price was excellent.
We were a party of three, two of whom enjoy seafood and one that doesn't eat any seafood. If possible consider adding one or two other meat dishes to the menu, like a Philly Cheese Steak or a grilled chicken sandwich. If either of those are as good as the burger you serve, they would be welcome additions to the menu.
Overall a good meal and very nice ambiance however the service was very slow and many times felt like we were being neglected. The menu is kind of limited and the prices have increased over the last year or two. Great place to go when the weather is nice. Usually a very fun experience at Demun. I like the oysters but do not like their new mignonette sauce at all. Much preferred the iced mignonette that used to be served. I will return but think they need to hire more waiters.
We came here on a perfect Summer night and were lucky enough to get an outside table. However, all tables are essentially outside, as the restaurant's large windows basically disappear so that the feel is like being in Europe. We ordered oysters, gazpacho soup, spinach salad and trout. Highly recommend for great flavors, friendly wait staff and good neighborly atmosphere.
I am a huge supporter of demun oyster bar, I love how they are dog friendly and their brunches are beyond amazing. The general manager needs some work in treating his customers during tension times. He has no clue on talking to guests. It's such a bummer since the food was good! Sadly St. Louis is such a goodie town, I'm sure we can find another brunch and dinner spot!
