Dempsey's Steakhouse at Saddlebrook Resort
Medallions of Tenderloin, Cognac Sauce
Smoked Bacon, Fresh Thyme
Presented Tableside for Two
Interesting dinner. First, the inside bar (which I believe may be the sports bar) was not pleasant. Teenaged kids in bathing suits bellying up to the bar to get drinks, etc was unacceptable in terms of noise and ambiance. The quiet in the dining room was great as was the very nice service. But, the place needs updating to match the beautiful grounds. It is decidedly stuck in the 70s. The menu was sufficiently broad but also somewhat dated. Food was served hot and quickly but every item was very over-salted to all three of us at the table. My Steak Diane was over -salted to just before the point of inedible. Which is too bad because the cut of meat seemed to be very good. In the health conscious age, this is unacceptable. Even the mashed potatoes were heavily salted.
My husband and I have wanted to try Dempsey’s for a while and went with another couple. We enjoy a good big end steak but the whole experience was disappointing considering the price point of the dishes. It was on the side of a sports bar, the service was very delayed and not very attentive, the food was mediocre and the steak had very little flavor. The Cesar salad was the best part of the meal. Won’t be back, there are plenty of outer steakhouses with similar price points that are truly incredible. Skip Dempsey’s and head south.
1st time at Dempsey’s. Service was exceptional, food was superb & drinks were made perfectly to order every time! Would definitely go back for a special occasion. Have no idea why there were any reviews below 4-5 stars.
An overall excellent experience. We went for dinner and the food and service was great.
Waiter attentive but food slow to come out Still a delicious dinner and nice evening
Dempsey’s is the best restaurant on the resort premises, and unless you have a car, there aren’t a lot of options in the area. I went at 9pm, there were a few tables finishing up. Food was average, my steak came out rare instead of medium rare, which the server knew because he cut the steak and said he could put it on for a few more minutes if we wanted but served it anyways. Servers were nice but not customer focused. When you are the only people dining you don’t expect a steak to take 30+?minutes to come out, to have long pauses between every course, and to wait 20 minutes to get the check at the end. What was quick was the servers asking us if we were done so they could take our plates away before we were finished every course and removing all the table cloths and place settings so they could go home.
Our servers were friendly enough, however they barely paid attention to our needs and it took forever for us to get our entree, our dessert and our check when the night was over. The food itself was fine, but not fantastic and certainly no worthy of the price tag. Then appetizer was scallops atop a weird banana mush. Separately, those things would taste good but together, it didn’t mix well. The steak was decent, but again, not worth the price. The dessert was a carrot cake and was actually not good at all. It tasted dry and the cream cheese icing wasn’t tasty. I think I would’ve found better carrot cake at the bakery in a grocery store. Given the hype around the restaurant and the prices, I was assuming it would be a great meal. Sadly it didn’t quite live up to the accolades.
Great menu choices and excellent preparation- acoustics are bad and dining room is noisy.
Our go to steak house in Wesley Chapel!!! Excellent food !!
My wife and I ate at Dempsey's for the first time, after hearing good things...we weren't disappointed. Though the food took a little longer than I would have liked to get to us, it was really superb. Great steak, tender and very tasty. We loved the Brussel sprouts and mushroom sides, and the sour cream cheesecake was to die for. A bit costly, we'd eat there more often if a little less expensive, but overall a great experience.
Restaurant was crowded, noisy and the service was poor. The food was marginally good but came to the table room temp. I know the waiter was doing his best but some where the staffing was not sufficient to make the meal, service and event enjoyable.
It was our second dining experience there. I ordered same entree as I did last August. Rib Eye Steak on the bone. Medium rare. It was slightly overcooked but the quality of meat was poor. Very chewy. I had three bites, spit the third out and discontinued eating the entree. When waiter came to the table, I asked him to take it away, it was too tough.
Had dessert - very good, and asked for the check. I had expected that the $50 charge would have been removed. It was not. We paid the bill and tipped generously.
Upon going to the bar for an after dinner drink, I informed the manager. He was kind enough not to charge us for the drink. We spent a good amount of money there over the weekend, enjoying the facilities, spa included. We like your resort, but.......
Kevin & Fiona Kiernan
It was a little pricey, but for special occasions I would.
The food was fine - not amazing, but good. The filet minon was tasty and properly cooked, and the diver scallops with linguini were fresh and flavorful. But it’s a bit overpriced for what you get. The problem was the service, which was friendly but extremely slow - the restaurant was packed and they apologized that the kitchen just couldn’t keep up with the volume of orders. It was over 90 minutes from the time we sat down until we eventually got our entrees.
If you’re staying at the Saddlebrook Resort, Dempsey’s might be worth a try, especially on a slow night when the kitchen can presumably keep up. But I wouldn’t recommend that Tampa residents drive out of their way for this place.
This is probably the worst experience we have had at a restaurant. We had reservations at 8:30 PM and were seated immediately. We did not get our food until 10:30 PM! Finally at 10 PM our waitress offered to bring us bread to hold us over. Bread that is normally served immediately at every other restaurant we go to but was finally offered 1.5 hours later. Then when we finally did get our food the grilled pork chop I had ordered was raw inside and had to be sent back. Of course when it came back it was so tough that I could not even eat it. So I paid $30 for one pork chop (with no sides) that I could not even eat.
And after all of this horrible experience there was no offer for any type of discount or even a free dessert or coffee. Poor quality with high prices is unacceptable. The only saving factor for the entire night was the sweet waitress we had that kept apologizing. But still we will never come back to this restaurant.
I always read reviews before I go to a restaurant realizing you can't please all the people all the time. I chose Dempsey's based on their menu and a few of the reviews although most of the reviews were mixed. This was New Year's Eve and our anniversary. Our reservation was at 8. Their wine list was extensive. I chose a moderately priced red Zinfandel($60). When the waiter had trouble removing the cork and it crumbled I should have stopped him there. They serve the wine and it was awful. I asked for replacement of a similar priced Cabernet. They were out of it. I then chose a house wine for about $45. It wasn't what I wanted but it being a house wine I was reasonably sure it was available and would be palatable. We ordered our dinner at approximately 8:20. We received our dinner at 9:30. I will say the steaks were good and cook has ordered. To the credit of the restaurant we were not charged for the wine. I'm not sure if it was an oversight or they had intended to do so. Overall the food was good, the price was high, and the wine list overpriced. The service was unacceptable.
Dempsey's is a great place to enjoy a perfectly prepared meal in leisure.
Food was great and well prepared. Would definitely dine there again
Food was exceptional. About froze to death; didn’t realize we needed to wear a parka. The place wasn’t very busy but wait staff rarely showed up; sat for probably 30 minutes without water. The fact you must pay cash to park is totally absurd!!!
I have lived in this area for 35 years. Over the years I have been to Dempseys for dinner probably 6 or 7 times. This will be the last. There is nothing left of the upscale New York style steak house that it once was. Dirty old carpets and furniture that is dying to be replaced and lighting that is so bright it shows every detail of a restaurant in dire need of a makeover. My menu was dirty and stained as was the wine list. We ordered the Caesar salad which was inedible. The sea bass was ok but for $37 you want more than ok. This used to be a great place to celebrate a special occasion or have a special date night. Sad, what happened?!
We go to Dempsey's because the food is always excellent. The steaks are incredible as well as the fish. The catch is the service.
The service has never been really good but it seems to have gotten much worse. Waited forever for first drinks. (Although they were excellent). Waiters are polite but need training. The service just doesnt jive with this pricey establishment.
Night out with my son and big mistake on the selection.
The food ad drink was as good as expected, and we ordered a variety at my table. However, the attitude and professionalism of the server could not have been better. He stole the show.
Very rude, vulgar group seated next to us ruined our evening.
Dempsey’s is a great place to come to for a an outstanding meal. It is expensive but the food is worth every penny. Service is outstanding, you will be well taken care of. On this trip, my Wife had Chilean Seabass. This is Seabass the way it should be, 2 1/2” thick and buttery! I had a 14oz bone in Filet. Superb!
They restaruant was not crowded, we were 1 of 3 tables. Our reservations were for 7p. Initial drink orders were taken and some of them were brought to us, but not all. The waiter didn't come back to take our order for food until 8p. Still some at the table had not received their drink order. The food came at 9p - we had to remind the waiter to bring the glass of wine that was ordered at 7p.
The food was good - but not spectacular.
Except service, excellent food. Ambiance needs refreshed
The server was rude. She directed the questions towards my husband as if I was not there. She would ask him if I finished eating or if I would like a box for the leftovers as if I am invisible. The steak was tough and not cooked to the right temperature. The water glass smelled of eggs and I could not drink from it. The chairs are not comfortable and the noise was very loud
We went to Dempseys's Steakhouse for the first time. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and decided to try this restaurant which we had never visited before.
We wondered a little when we first pulled up to the gate of the community thinking we might not get in but there was a guard stand. The guard took our name and gave us directions.
The guard told us to turn right at the blinking stop sign but our GPS said to turn left. We took a long way around to find that we could not get to the restaurant and had to go back and follow the guard's directions.
The restaurant was in a temporary location because the permanent location was being renovated. This concerned us a little because we weren't sure where the food was being prepared. This turned out to be a non-issue as the food was prompt and hot.
We had clam chowder and onion soup as appetizers and bone-in rib eye steak for our meal. All were excellent. The clam chowder had a little different seasoning that we are used to but was delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked and tasted very good. There was almost no gristle as you often find in this cut.
The chef made a wonderful individual apple pie for my wife's birthday celebration and wrote a huge happy birthday on a large serving plate with the dessert down on the end. What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday.
Thank you very much for making my wife's birthday one to remember, Demsey's staff.
The main restaurant was closed for renovations. The environment that was substituted was not up to standards for such a pricey meal. There was only 1 server for 4 tables. We had to wait a while for our food, water refills and salt/pepper. When our food did arrive, it was lukewarm
I believe the original building is under renovation so they had the restaurant somewhere else. The food was outstanding, service was great as well. I didn’t like the dining area. There weren’t even that many people dining but some how I felt so squished. It was also very hot and humid in the room as well. But the food was delicious. I’d definitely go back, but only when the original restaurant opens back up.
Dempsey’s was closed due to renovations. This was not shared. They moved dining to a small room next to the bar and called Dempsey’s. When we booked it said only 6 tables left - there were only 8 in this small room. When you go to Dempsey’s you go for the ambiance - very disappointing for an anniversary! Staff was excellent. Meal came out lukewarm and was sent back. Returned hot and was very good. Steaks are as good as Roth’s Chris and Capital Grill but again served like warm. NO excuse, shame on the chef. No salad bar at this temporary location. Dessert was comp’d and much appreciated. $5 for valet parking was inappropriate as there is no self parking.
Good not great and for the price expected more. Service and ambiance very good but food average and very pricey.
We had eight for dinner. The service and the food were excellent. Price was a little high but expected. Would recommend for at least one night of your stay.
We arrived early for our reservation and the restaurant was empty. We were disappointed to learn that we could not be seated for a while so we went to the bar and ended up eating dinner there. The bartender, Erin, was delightful and our meals were good.
My husband and I have visited Dempsey's in the past. We decided to stay at Saddlebrook and celebrate our anniversary dinner there. Service always wonderful. Food stellar!!!
Awesome first experience. Our server Juan was really good. Food was excellent. Only thing that was not great was our seating. We were a party of 2 with advanced reservation and the place was not crowded for a Saturday at 7PM. We were seated in a small corner by the exit. Probably should have asked for a different table. Otherwise, good experience, we’ll be back.
Dempsey's was a nice restaurant with good food and our waiter was very kind. However, the manager/ maitre d was ridiculously rude. We had made reservations for a bigger group and at the last minute had to switch things up because of circumstances beyond our control. He stated he had to completely redo his dining room and was extremely annoyed with us. I even offered to help him rearrange whatever he needed help with. Totally uncalled for and we were the ONLY ones besides a four top in the entire restaurant. Boo!
We have mixed feelings. It was awkward walking 100 yards from the resort to the restaurant. What would you do if it was raining? We got there an hour early and went to the bar. Nice overall with great service. Our waitress in the main dining room was very prompt and gave us some recommendations. We rate her a 10. Ceasar salad was bland and we didn't think it was worth $22.00 for the both of us. We don't think it compares to other fine steak houses like Capital Grill, Flemings or Ocean prime.
Excellent service, is not everyday you find place so good within your backyard.
