Dempsey's Steakhouse at Saddlebrook Resort Ratings and Reviews
Place was a little empty compared to previous times. The salad bar has been greatly reduced. We almost walked out for fear that the quality and prep of food would be the same. Not to worry, all was above expectations. Waitress was especially helpful in recommending sides and wine. Three of us really enjoyed ourselves.
We are planning for New Year's.

Dempsey’s has an interesting menu that has some local influence. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and provided many suggestions. The smallest steak is approx 10oz. which can be a lot. The waiter suggested splitting 2 dinners so we could each have a surf & turf and not a lot of steak. Creative recommendation not on menu. The Parker House rolls are served with a local honey. Lots of extra touches. The sides are for 2. The Caesar Salad for 2 is made table side and worth the trip. Steak was cooked perfectly. You get what you pay for in quality and service. I would also recommend bringing a jacket/sweater as the dining room is cold. I will definitely return and highly recommend!
My wife and I are frequent diners at Dempsey's, and previous visits have been great. The restaurant is on the pricey side, but the overall experience there in the past has been worth it. That was not the case this time. We were seated on time for our reservation, and then sat for 12 minutes while waiting for a waiter/waitress/server to acknowledge our existence, or at least fill our water glasses. At the 12-minute mark I called a waiter over and asked who our server was, and then requested he also send the manager over. 3 minutes later, a manager came over and apologized for the delay and offered to buy us dessert to make up for the lack of hospitality (I appreciate that, but I'd trade the comped dessert for attentive customer service anytime). She also said she would come back later to check on us (never happened). Our waitress eventually made it over, no apologies for lack of customer service, and took our order. Her service during this evening could be described as minimal: took our order, delivered food, cleared dishes, brought the check. I felt like I was an intruder in someone's home, not a welcomed customer. As always, the food was excellent; my wife had the Chilean Sea Bass and I had the filet. Sides were butternut squash (prepared superbly) and sauteed mushrooms (fair, way too much salt). However, the service this evening was awful. If you're a first-rate steakhouse, Dempsey's, than be a first-rate steakhouse. You really soured us on this visit and left me wondering if I'll ever return as a patron.
We have dined at Dempseys many times and always enjoyed it; this was an exception to that statement. My husband had the diver scallops .. delicious. I had the colossal shrimp .. they were so overcooked I struggled to cut them with a knife and finally gave up after one.
I had also contacted the restaurant about having something written on his plate (it was a milestone birthday), but there was nothing done; not even a happy birthday from the wait staff.
We really enjoy the ambiance at Saddlebrook, but it will be a very long time before I suggest we go back.
This is our second visit to Dempsey's and we were not disappointed. The food was prepared perfectly and very tasty. We had truly excellent service. The staff was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. The only reason for 3 star on the ambience is that in order for us to get in and out of the dining room we had to wade through the bar which was packed full of very boisterous inebriated golfers. Nothing against folks enjoying themselves. However when paying this much for a fine dining experience I didn't really enjoy having to "part the seas" in order to exit or for my wife to visit the ladies room.
Very disappointing and not worth the value. We ordered a bottle of wine and after about 30 minutes they came back and said they couldn't find it. We asked for the wine list and about 2 minutes after getting it our steaks arrived. So we just ordered two glasses. Both of the steaks were under cooked, I had to send mine back for more cooking. We ordered dessert and my wife ordered hot tea. The tea never came. Was hoping for more but walked away disappointed.
We were there to celebrate an anniversary. Service was terrific and attentive. Food was prepared exactly as ordered. We we enjoyed all our dishes especially the clam chowder. Many agreed it was the best steak they've had. The sides were fabulous, especially the mashed potatoes and the Brussels spouts. This will become our special place.
Note: the restaurant is not close to the entrance to the property, and the parking is a walk from the restaurant. The valet parking does provide a ride to the door.
The first sign that this place has a problem is that is was empty at ion on a Friday night. Service was very slow. The little thing like no water fills and actually had to ask someone to send over our server. Note this is an expensive place. After the server raved about the scallops my wife ordered then. After a long while she came back to tell her they were out of the scallops.
I ordered the lamb and it came out totally raw. Not rare Raw! Went here for wife's birthday embarssed by rhis place. Too many other places with better service and better food. I do not mind paying $200 for a meal. But not for the places like this. Will never return!
Terrible steaks. I had the bone in ribeye and it was tough with little flavor. My wife had the filet tough with zero flavor. Drive 5 minutes down the road to Outback And you'll get a better steak at a fraction of the price. This place is not worth the time and so old and outdated. I should have known as we were one of only two parties yet the service was horribly slow (but friendly).
The waitress was very on top of things and the food was great! The entire staff there is nice and has great customer service, especially the hostess who booked my reservation. I believe her name was Caitlin I honestly am bad with names and I hope she gets rewarded for a job well done. :)
Dempsey's is a lovely upscale restaurant in the land of casual chain eateries although there are some resort guests who wear shorts and flip flops. This visit had its ups and downs. The young hostess seating us was in need of training - outside of a pub, we do not enjoy being referred to as "you guys"; we were seated at our favorite winter time table but had to later relocate due to the sun (she also seated a foursome who had to move); she needs to gain more poise and ease with adult conversation.
Service was very slow. Our waitress was also young but had more experience, was conscientious, knowledgeable about menu items and eager to please . The filet and sea bass were excellent - good quality and perfectly cooked. The side dish of "wild" mushrooms was heavily salted and primarily looked and tasted like slices from a can. It was nice to have a salad bar again. Although not comparable to the antipasto bar of a couple of years ago, it was a decent option. Good, ample wine and drink lists.
No surprises on the pricing.
Food was okay for the price however this restaurant is no where close to as good as in the past. Servers were nice but lacked experience. Never ask if we wanted salad bar, we had to ask her. Desert & salad bar now very limited .
In short food was good not great, but service lacked the expertise you would expect at a high end steakhouse.
We'd been to Dempsey's before, but not for a long time, and I was a bit concerned that the quality might have gone down, based on some of the reviews. However, everything was brilliant. We were quickly and courteously seated. Diego was our waitperson and was excellent. We had the surf and turf, and the steak was perfect. The tableside Caesar salad was excellent. The chowder certainly had more bacon than clam but it was tasty. Wine was good. And the crème brûlée was awesome, and comped because it was an anniversary celebration. Very happy with our experience, and we certainly would go again. No question it's not cheap; but, the quality is there.
Dempsey's is off the beaten path; located in a gated community with tennis courts and golf courses. The selection of meats is outstanding, and cooked to perfection. One of the few places where I have had rack of lamb truly charred rare. The service is comfortable - not rushed - but prompt. A definite repeat for the Tampa area.
Our meal got off to a bad start when our guest opened her napkin and a lizard scurried out!! Very unusual for a restaurant of this caliber. To make matters worse, the staff didn't seem concerned, and only our waitress apologized. The food was excellent, though.
Although I will give Dempsey's another chance, the "kitchen" failed to provide the entre I ordered and after waiting a good while to begin with, I then had to wait a long time for my original order. Of course, in the meantime my wife ate her dinner as I waited and I ate mine after she was already done. I thought the restaurant might comp something in apology but there was minimal apology. The restaurant was very noisey with pound adults and small children. High $$$ and not a good night; our first visit and a disappointment. The bar on the way out of the dinner room was a much better scene.
Service was outstanding. View outside the window was great. My wifes food was perfection. Mine, not so much. I ordered my filet medium well because the menu stated it would be a hot pink center. It was actually overcooked with no hot pink center. Fortunately, it was still tender and tasty so I ate it. My experience with beef is that a hot pink center is normally called medium, but I decided to trust the menu. It was disappointing as cooked but still a decent meal. A second problem occurred when we were given two complimentary flutes of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. It was awful, not good at all, vinegary, in fact. We just laughed it off.
outstanding steaks. Had the bone in filet, cooked perfectly. The tapas salad bar was original and yummy. Ala carte sides big enough to share with 4 people. Very nice atmosphere for casual steak joint. Would definitely recommend if your near or at Saddlbrook Resort.
Been here many times in the past and it has always been great. This time the resort was at capacity and that may have had something to do with not getting the same vibe as before. The food was good but not as great as what I have had in the past at Dempsy's. The overpriced salad bar was pushed so hard, that you felt guilty by not agreeing to it. Sides which are normally great were just average at best. Sorry to say it was not a $300 dinner.
Our server was great unfortunately I don't remember her name. We had a beautiful table by the window overlooking the garden. However, the nice club chair leaned 90 degrees to the back causing me discomfort so when I asked for a pillow to support my back our server provided one without question! To my surprise our "dinner for two" turned into a sweet engagement dinner accompanied by 7 friends hiding in the adjacent dining room. When we joined our friends, our server brought out a complimentary bottle of champagne and kindly took pictures for us. What a memorable wonderful event. Oh, and the steaks are absolutely amazing too!
After living in Wesley Chapel for over 15 years, my wife and I decided to finally give Dempsey's a try. We were celebrating Valentine's Day on the 17th due to our schedules. I made a reservation for 8:00pm and asked for a table near the front door due to me being disabled and very limited in mobility. We end up waiting in the lobby for about 10-15 minutes before being greeted. I asked to go the accessible route due to there being no handrail and it stepping up to the dining area. We were then paraded outside, through what looked like the pool area, through two more doors and across a third dining area to a table by the door farthest from the entrance. After looking over the menu for about twenty minutes without ever being greeted by a server, we were able to track down the manager ourselves and ask if we could have our valet parking validated and a golf cart called to return us to the area where you drop off your vehicle to be parked. The manager said he was sorry but by now we were ready to leave. We went to Outback instead and had a great meal with great service. If you want to pay an arm and a leg for horrible service, then Dempsey's is your restaurant.
