Top notch food never had a bad meal would highly recomend.
We make it a point to dine at Demeters each time we visit our daughter at UNH!
The food never disappoints and we always have a very nice experience with the staff....from the hostess, to bartenders, to the wait staff! Recommended it to several parents at parent weekend this year! We love it!
excellent food and accommodating staff - has become our place to go for special family occasions - this was the third year in a row for my birthday celebration - and they always respect my request to keep it low key :-)
Steak was excellent! We are foodies from Boston, and it was just as good as The Capital Grill but cheaper.
Very knowledgeable server. Food was fantastic. Only criticism was after our expensive steaks were delivered to us, our server didn't come over until we were done with them. Odd given the price of the steak and the great service out of the gate. However, made up for it with great service on the dessert.
We had a very enjoyable evening with excellent service & great steaks
First timers - and we were impressed. Great wine list - and the staff were very attentive. We are already planning our next trip to Demeters!!
Celebrating our 50th anniversary. Our server, Ken, the manager, Matt, and the rest of the staff made our celebration very special. The steaks were outstanding as was the rest of the meal. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was excellent. Quite a pleasure to fine in a quiet world of York beach. Worth the short drive. Staff were welcoming and service satisfactory.
My husband and I were celebrating his birthday and our 26th wedding anniversary. I chose Demeters because it is my favorite restaurant. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. Along side our main server, there were two others who made certain our table was clear of items we were no longer needing and refilling our waters. That is a pet peeve for my husband. Being aware of the fact we were celebrating two special occasions, we were treated with desert and desert wine to complete our evening.
Thank you Demeters for your fantastic food and service!
Great service. Great atmosphere. Thursday night oysters were wonderful. My only regret was ordering the 2 Way Aged New York Strip. Both steaks perfectly cooked but very tough and for $76 I was expecting much better. If there is a next time, I'll stick with the filet or bar menu. Disappointed.
While the food was excellent, the service was not good. Drink orders partially filled, requests (I.e. Additional salad dressing, dipping oil for bread ) forgotten by server. One meal served substantially later than the other 5. Restaurant was not crowded but our server seemed to be struggling. I would give them another chance but at these prices you expect a fine dining experience.
The perfect place for a special occasion. They went out of their way to make it memorable - and we will not soon forget it. We will definitely be back!
Went to Demeters expecting a great experience and a tasty steak.
While I was well-prepared for a hefty bill, the price-tag on my $94 20 oz steak was the only grand aspect of the evening.
Our backwaiter was fantastic.
Our server, although friendly, was not attentive at all, paying more attention to her one other table (was not a busy evening), resulting in our desire to leave before dessert.
The poutine had soggy fries, the curds were so melted that their consistency was completely off. The portion for the poutine was obscenely small. More of a small plate for one than an app to share.
Well over an hour after ordering, the steaks arrived. They looked phenomenal. The table nearby that arrived much later than we did received their meals within five minutes of ours (yes, they ordered an app) and soon after became the center of our servers' attention for the remainder of the meal.
I was told my steak needed to be more medium than medium well, due to the cut and marbling of the fat. The fat was less marbled and more in large, warm globules. Looking forward to this experience for some time, I was even more disappointed by the lackluster steak flavor and consistency. I wanted to have it cooked a bit longer, but could not get the attention of my waitress, not even for a dessert menu.
When I saw my bill and the fact that the lackluster piece of meat I ordered was $94, I laughed out loud. I could not believe that something lacking the quality and flavor that I had in a ski resort downtown in Vermont was $35 more expensive at a restaurant off of a wannabe highway with mostly commerical properties lining it, nowhere near the center of any of the beach areas.
I was told this place had the quality of a Del Frisco's.
Had the steak been as great as it was advertised and the fat was more marbled or even melted in your mouth, $94 would have made perfect sense.
Unfortunately, this was the most remarkably poor experience I have had at a restaurant in years.
We wnt for your Prime Rib Special and it terrible could not cut it whith your best steak knife
We will not be coming back
The first time we ate here was 5 stars across the board. This time we were a bit disappointed compared to our last experience. We feel as though we had a wait staff that was young or in-training. Our waitresses were pleasant and well-meaning but were not consistent throughout the course of the meal (the persons we started with were not the persons we ended with). There was also a long wait time for our drinks, then the bread, then very long wait before the main course. We were seated on time for our 7pm reservation but didn't end up leaving the restaurant until just after 9:30pm. For not having appetizers or dessert we felt there was an overly long amount of time waiting for food versus eating. One member of our party was brought the incorrect glass of wine. One of the steaks on our Demeter plate was overcooked and the reduction sauce we loved so much at our first visit was distinctly different and more like gravy this time. It was tasty but not as good as the sauce we remembered. We were also disappointed to find when we got home that the remainder of the dipping sauces had not been included with our leftovers when they were boxed to go. Overall the food was still good and we will likely try again in the future but it was not the flawless experience we were hoping to share with the first time guests we brought with us.
Overpriced for what was served. Excellent bartenders though. Good service
This was our first visit and we will definitely be going back. The Chateaubriand was out of this world and definitely worth the wait. Plus the wait gave us an excuse to try an appetizer and relax and enjoy our drinks. All of our food was cooked perfectly and the presentation of the side dishes in little covered pots was appealing in addition to keeping the food warm.
A bit dissapointed. We've dinned here several times - and always had a great meal. This time it was a little off. Onion soup came out barely warm... duck breast was cold a rissotto was not as expected. Over powered the dish. two filets were good. Service was attentive. We are not ones to send food back - which is on us for not bringing things to the attention of the staff. Will try them again - as we hope this was just an off night.
The steaks and fried donuts are excellent! The cocktails are terrific too!
Our first visit, though I looked at their menu on line since they opened. For the food quality, price and especially wine prices there are so many great restaurants in the area that I don't think we will return. The quality of the food was good, service was great, ambiance was OK, actually expecting something a bit nicer.
Food was excellent. The service was wonderful.
Everyone's steak was excellent and desserts were home made and yummy.
Truly a great find. It's a bit out of the way, but worth the trip. The atmosphere is vibrant and charming, and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the meat choices. The food was excellent...we will definitely eat here again!
Great Steakhouse in the area. My filet was cooked to perfection, my husband's Porterhouse was ok. The chef fell into the typical Porterhouse trap - the Strip cooked to perfection and the filet slightly overcooked. Nevertheless a great dining experience. Only downside - wine list does not have many real affordable options, so expect to pay a lot for wine. Great dining experience.
Don't be put off by the exterior, which is a somewhat plain building. The inside is beautifully decorated and the food is outstanding. There is a bar area with table seating on both sides, then a somewhat sheltered area surrounded by attractively displayed wine storage. There is also a separate dining room perfect for a medium sized group. The waiters are attentive and friendly, and the food was very good. We ordered steak (30 oz bone in ribeye special) which my husband declared the best steak he ever had. I had grilled shrimp - I wish they had offered a chicken dish, but I was, after all, in a steakhouse. The Chef came out at the end to greet us - which was unusual and quite nice.
Service is unbeatable and we eat out for every meal....
We will definitely return! Delicious steaks and excellent customer service!!!
Great Night Out. Superb Steak Menu. Excellent wait staff. Nice ambiance.
Even with a reservation- we waited for our table. Then the dinners took over an hour to cook!! (??) it was very frustrating because I was with my elderly mother. And a 2.5 hour wait for food was not ok- at all.
I felt horrible that I chose Demeters for our special event.
The steak was good, but can find just as good elsewhere for a cheaper price. Service was poor. We got drinks right away, however the waitress disappeared for 35 minutes and didn't return to see if we needed refills or anything else. We had to get the manager's attention to get refills and bread. The meals didn't arrive for another 20 minutes after. Definitely not worth that long of a wait. Manager offered no compensation for the long wait.
I arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and they told me that we would have to wait 20-25 minutes to be seated. I questioned this because there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. They said that they had t time people being seated because of the kitchen. The hostess suggested that we sit at the bar until our table was ready which we did. Once we were seated it took a while to get water and bread. Our waiter, Robert, was great. But he was the only good thing at Demeter's. The food was decent but took a very long time to come to us and some of the entrees were not hot. This was my son's graduation celebration and overall it was a very disappointing experience.
Extremely disappointing meal. First, my wife is allergic to onions, pepper, and tree nuts so she can be a difficult customer to take care of. However this is one reason we like to use OpenTable because usually, except this time, the restaurant is aware in advance and reviews them with use before we order. In many restaurant do their best to try and accommodate her with a special sauce or dressing. Tonight, our server and others were very thoughtful and did a great job. Mind you this is not a cheap restaurant so I would expect service to as good as it was. I would also expect the same kind of service from the kitchen but that wasn't the case. The kitchen made no special effort to prepare my wife with even a salad that they could say was safe of her allergens. So we decided to order the charcuterie board as an appetizer. Moments later, our server returned to inform us they are out of the charcuterie board..it's a Saturday night for Gods sake.
So my wife ate bread and butter. So we each ordered the $52 ribeye steaks (medium rare) and sat patiently enjoy our alone time on our anniversary. When our dinner appeared, my steak was cooked rare and my wife's was medium well. Now, I was able to eat mine however my wife sent hers back. After 20 min a perfectly cooked steak was delivered. But by then my wife had nibbled away on breath and potato and was only able to eat a small portion of hers steak and we took the rest to go.
It's not the restaurant fault my wife has allergies. However, for a restaurant to sell itself as a high end steak house, I would expect the kitchen to attempt to prepare something unique and special for someone with such allergies rather than saying "you can't eat any of the salads because all of our dressing have shallots in them. I can make a homemade Caesar dressing at home if 5 minutes. Enough complaining. It will be a little no time before we attempt to go back there. Just don't see the value
Regretfully our first time after knowing it has been here for several years what a mistake not to have come earlier!
Fabulous service great ambience and seriously the best steak I have had ever!
One of the best steaks we've ever had. Everything was delicious from our appetizers to desserts and drinks. Our server Ken was remarkable, he was professional yet humerous and ensured everything was just perfect. The location isn't far from downtown, but definitely worth the short drive.
Automatic doors for wheelchair do NOT operate. This was the second time they did not operate.
Went for a special occasion. The food was perfectly cooked and delicious. Every staff person was friendly and wanted to make sure we were happy. Which we were. Excellent all around.
Steaks were good but not exceptional at all. Atmosphere is a bit pubby with the TVs all over the bar. Wine seemed unusually pricey. Not worth the $ overall.
I normally enjoy my dinner dates at Demeter's and was excited to bring the family together for our first experience with brunch. Our party was staggered and once everyone was seated, we were left unattended for awhile without anyone explaining that there was only a buffet option and no menu service. Between our self-serve mimosa bar and self-serve meal, I was surprised to see a gratuity included to our bill. We left extra as we typically do, but some may be turned off since the onus is on one's self for most of the meal. The ham station was delish and it was nice to see luxuries such a shrimp and oysters, but the prime rib was quite fatty and a bit rate for our taste. The consensus was, we all would have liked to see more traditional brunch fare; more egg options besides omelette station, home fries, meat sides, bread and pancake options, juices, etc. Focus here might keep the cost down for the establishment, passing the savings onto the guests. The atmosphere is lovely as always and I will continue to enjoy my dinner dates here, but for what is charged, I could not see the value for brunch.
