Delta King - Pilothouse Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I requested quiet seating for 2, prior to me dining in. When we arrived to check in the host did not acknowledge my request of "quiet, and awkwardly seats us next to the loudest family, first mistake. Second, the table was set for 4, I would have waited the extra 2 minutes to have it pre bussed of the other glasses and utensils before we sat down causing more awkwardness. After sitting I watched the host seat 2 tables across the room window seating for table for 2. I was very disappointed. I could not even carry a conversation over the table next to us. Maybe I should have said something, but I did not want to be "that guy", The food was great and our server was awesome. This place just needs to work on the details.
My daughter and I made dinner reservations here because we have been to Old Town often but had never been aboard. We had theatre tickets for the evening and wanted a special “just us” dinner. The food was fabulous, I had the salmon, she had the special for the night, red snapper. The ambiance was delightful. The service superb.
It is hard to find parking in Old Town so take advantage of their valet parking services. Well worth the extra $8. We will go back. I would like to take my husband there and she is looking forward to going again with her fiancé.
We were visiting the area for a trade show. My wife wanted a nice dining experience near Old Town Sac. In researching the area, I found the Pilot House, a nice dining experience on a riverboat, anchored on the Sac River.
I was initially apprehensive as this a known tourist area and I did not expect too much but wanted to provide my wife a better than normal restaurant experience. She liked it immediately! Beautifully restored riverboat made her think of another time. From the phone conversations with the hostess to change times, etc., very friendly and accommodating to our changed plans. The sat us right away with river views. It took awhile to realize the boat was not quite level as it was a boat on water but nothing negative about that as it added to the charm.
The server was friendly, informative, timely and attentive without being pushy. Our cheese appetizer was a hit with the "boss", with food brought out timely and hot! There is a nice selection on the menu offering choices from angus burgers, caesar salads, steaks and our selection of wild salmon, cooked just right, hot and moist not dried out on a bed of fresh veggies.
No room for a selection of desserts but will try them next time. The drinks were mixed well, tasty and generous portions at a reasonable price for call brands.
Overall, the pricing was less than we expected for such a touristy area, will go again, and next time enjoy the quaintness of the upstairs lounge.
Great Service and very good food. However about 2/3 of the way through the main course, another waiter sprayed cleaner on the table next to us and the smell was so overpowering that we could not finish the meal. Manager was very apologetic. She offered each of us another glass of wine but the smell was too offensive so she gave us an additional dessert.
Food and dessert were boxed up and tasted good later. We will return
I reserved a table and asked for a window seat, the dining room hostess said they were not available. We said we would wait for a window but then said she just seated all the window seats. So she sat the window seats and ignored our reservation request, then got a bit snippy about it. So we decided to sit in the bar instead. Thankfully our waitress was fantastic, very personable and attentive, made great recommendations and made up for our initial negative first impression. Food was really good, try the mushroom appetizer and maple bacon pork chop entree with risotto! Cocktails were well-made and atmosphere was historic, romantic and unique.
We dined...as we intended to do. We ordered from the Prefix Menu on the Dine Downtown Sacramento promotion. Our server, Mark, provided excellent service. He alone kept the water poured, dishes picked up and main course served hot, amazingly hot as if it was directly in the frying pan one minute before (that hardly ever happens). It has been a long time since all four of us have had an excellent meal out as we did at the Pilot House.
Had dinner reservations here on the 6th of January. Our waiter Jamie was very attentive and a great waiter. We had ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer if it was our choice we wouldn't order again. We both ordered the New York steak dinner, steak med well. The steak was new York, nothing special, Our dinner came with mashed potatoes and brocollini wish were vey good. We will be back and dine at the Pilothouse again but will order something different.
we love the Delta King and all its history.
We were disappointed in the Christmas Eve dinner.
The turkey and dressing special was not very good and
displayed very unappealingly on the plate.
The lamb slider appetizers should be taken off the menu.
The cioppino had fresh seafood but the base was very salty
and unremarkable. the prime rib special was wonderful though.
Very disappointed. We had a reservation for 3:30 in the charming dinning room. When we arrived they couldn’t find the reservation and the dining room was closed! We had the option of eating in the noisy sports bar. Not the experience we wanted to share with our family. The food was terrible.
The staff was trying its best to provide use with a nice experience but it was hopeless.
We have enjoyed the Delta King in the past, so this was especially disappointing. Open table should know that the dinng room closes between lunch and dinner.
Great food, Great service, Great atmosphere. The bar is a great place to start for a before dinner cocktail. Recommend a table on the river side of the dining area if possible. Food is excellent with great service. The waiter will gladly recommend the proper wine to go with your meal if you are unsure what to get. It's just a great place to relax and enjoy a great meal with a beautiful setting.
Neat setting (on an old boat); good food, but service needs work. Hostess could not tell me (on the phone) the cost of valet. She also should have explained where the valet was located as it is no where near the entrance. I recommend a sign be put up to indicate where to meet the valet. We arrived for our reservation at specified reservation time, restaurant empty, but still waited 10 mins. to be seated. Hostess did not indicate there was a sitting area to wait. We found it. Delay in ordering; waited for quite some time for food and only half of our party (3) were served at first. Desserts were tasty enough, but sloppy presentation. Waitress quite harried and talked quickly while hurriedly placing (almost slamming) plates and drinks.
With some better training of hostess and wait staff this could be a more sophisticated experience. The food is pretty good!
WE ALL ORDERED NEW YORK AND RIB EYE CUT STEAKS.WE WANTED THE STEAKS COOKED MEDIUM RARE. ALL 3 STEAKS WERE RARE,THE MASHED POTATOES WERE COLD, THE VEGETABLES WERE COLD.WE GOT THE APPETIZER WAY BEFORE WE GOT OUR COCKTAILS.YOUR RESTAURANT WAS NOT BUSY ON DEC.14,2017 AT 6:15 PM.THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR COOKING A DINNER LIKE THIS OR HOW LONG IT TOOK TO GET OUR COCKTAILS.THE PRICE FOR THE DINNERS WERE OVER PRICED FOR HOW IT WAS SERVED. WE WILL NEVER COME BACK AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW NOT TO EAT THERE.DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF YOU WERE BUSY
We were staying as guests at the Delta King Hotel for an anniversary trip and wanted an upscale dining experience to go along with the novelty of staying aboard a vintage paddlewheel boat. The food and service were exceptional, and the dining room is beautiful. My husband prefers a more casual setting, but he "suffered" through the amazing dinner and dessert. (The flourless chocolate cake is so delicious!)
We went for early dinner, 5 of us. Never been there before, every employee we saw kind of looked the other way so we wondered a bit until we figured out where the bar was.
We decided to have a drink while we waited for our reservation. There were lots of tables to sit in the bar.The bartender never acknowledged us, no servers to take our order, it was serve yourself . Our mixed drinks were terrible! The drinks were not properly mixed or balanced.
When we went down to dine and the service was not friendly. It felt like you were in a cafeteria. I ordered a chicken sandwich and it was burnt to a hard crunch, dry, and covered with some heavy spice which was too much to stomach. It came with fries which were ok. Three of us ordered salads with our dinners for which none of us ate due to the lettuce being wilted and the dressing watered down. Two of us ordered fish and chips, the fish was actually good but the fries were cold. We had to ask for tarter, ketchup, more water, bread...not a good experience.
I was personally embarrassed as we took relatives there from out of state for their last meal in California.
The water way between the boat and the dock next to the walkway to the entrance was full of trash which we all know could have been cleaned up before one of your busiest days of the week. You would think the interior of the building would be clean and fresh, it was not.
What a disappointment for such a special place.
We had a lovely time and a good meal, entertaining friends from the other side of the country (Maine). The Delta King is an essential stop, both for food and for a view of the Sacramento River. We were lucky and got a beautiful fall day on the river--but we were also pleasantly surprised to be seated in their big dining room, not the bar on the top floor, for lunch. Our guests had a great view out the windows at the boats plying the river and the fall color on the opposite side, and we were all served a delicious lunch--lamb sliders, ribs, turkey sandwich, and home made beef veggie soup. It was a grand occasion and the Delta King added much to the experience.
We came to celebrate our 17 year wedding anniversary. Our server was very knowledgeable, polite & attentive. We were really surprised when he came with a chocolate cake and a lit candle after our meal to celebrate our anniversary. That was a lovely touch that we truly appreciated.
We were seated by the window, by the mens' bathroom upstairs. The door to the bathroom did not close tightly, so we were confronted with sounds and smells that were inappropriate for a meal. The light fixtures by our table had spider webs and the area looked like it hadn't been cleaned for quite a while in general.
The food was certainly not worth the price and we were both highly disappointed. I would not return to this restaurant.
Overall a terrible experience. I had made the reservation a week ahead of time, for my husband's birthday. Within my reservation I noted it was for a birthday, and that I had a guest with a handicap that makes it extremely difficult to walk up stairs, if at all. When we got there, my husband was informed that someone was having a private party downstairs, no one could sit there (even though only 1 table of guests were using the entire area /what looked like 8 people), and that we had no reservation. If anyone has been to old town, parking can be a nightmare- so we figured since we are parked and here might as well go with the flow. We were then told we could walk upstairs to the bar area to eat. We were told we could sit anywhere. Once up there the staff argued in front of us about various items including our seating arrangements. It was extremely loud (quieted down within 20/30 min and 1/2 of the people left), got a menu about 10 min into the chaos, another 20 min before our waters came out and waitress took order, another 45 minutes before any food came. Overall it took over 1 hr for us to get our food( 2 salads , fish and chips, and turkey sandwich, plus four beverages) My sandwich was small, dry, and bland. My Father in law added chicken to his salad, which upon arrival asked if any was added; the waitress also didn't see any and after tossing it around a few bites were found and she said " oh yes. See its right there" pointing to the 3/4 small bites. Overall the view and our waitress was nice. My food was bad, staff argued audibly in front of customers, ordering process took far too long, no drink was refilled, we had to ask for our waters two times before they came. The bill was around $80 for lunch & I would not recommend this establishment for dining to anyone.
The Pilothouse Restaurant was a pleasant surprise. I thought since it was in touristy Old Sacramento that the restaurant might be negatively impacted. This was NOT the case. The old steamship provides an excellent dining experience. Cocktails before dinner were served quickly and were very tasty. My wife had the evenings special, ribeye steak which was perfectly prepared, and I had their signature smoked pork chop with maple bacon chutney and it was superb. We will definitely remember the Pilothouse in our future visits to Sacramento.
