Delta King - Pilothouse Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We were seated by the window, by the mens' bathroom upstairs. The door to the bathroom did not close tightly, so we were confronted with sounds and smells that were inappropriate for a meal. The light fixtures by our table had spider webs and the area looked like it hadn't been cleaned for quite a while in general.
The food was certainly not worth the price and we were both highly disappointed. I would not return to this restaurant.
Overall a terrible experience. I had made the reservation a week ahead of time, for my husband's birthday. Within my reservation I noted it was for a birthday, and that I had a guest with a handicap that makes it extremely difficult to walk up stairs, if at all. When we got there, my husband was informed that someone was having a private party downstairs, no one could sit there (even though only 1 table of guests were using the entire area /what looked like 8 people), and that we had no reservation. If anyone has been to old town, parking can be a nightmare- so we figured since we are parked and here might as well go with the flow. We were then told we could walk upstairs to the bar area to eat. We were told we could sit anywhere. Once up there the staff argued in front of us about various items including our seating arrangements. It was extremely loud (quieted down within 20/30 min and 1/2 of the people left), got a menu about 10 min into the chaos, another 20 min before our waters came out and waitress took order, another 45 minutes before any food came. Overall it took over 1 hr for us to get our food( 2 salads , fish and chips, and turkey sandwich, plus four beverages) My sandwich was small, dry, and bland. My Father in law added chicken to his salad, which upon arrival asked if any was added; the waitress also didn't see any and after tossing it around a few bites were found and she said " oh yes. See its right there" pointing to the 3/4 small bites. Overall the view and our waitress was nice. My food was bad, staff argued audibly in front of customers, ordering process took far too long, no drink was refilled, we had to ask for our waters two times before they came. The bill was around $80 for lunch & I would not recommend this establishment for dining to anyone.
The Pilothouse Restaurant was a pleasant surprise. I thought since it was in touristy Old Sacramento that the restaurant might be negatively impacted. This was NOT the case. The old steamship provides an excellent dining experience. Cocktails before dinner were served quickly and were very tasty. My wife had the evenings special, ribeye steak which was perfectly prepared, and I had their signature smoked pork chop with maple bacon chutney and it was superb. We will definitely remember the Pilothouse in our future visits to Sacramento.
I love the atmosphere of the Pilot House restaurant. What could be better than a Saturday Afternoon lunch overlooking the Sacramento River. The Hamburger I had was delicious. Perhaps it was extra busy due to Halloween traffic, but while the service was friendly but non existent. Two diet cokes were ordered and they were flat. The waitress took them away and did not charge for them but there was no follow up explanation such as we'll try to fix the machine or explaining there was nothing they could do. Once we were done eating our finished plates just sat on the table while we conducted our meeting and finally I asked for them to be cleared.
Staff need better training.
Celebrated my girlfriends birthday as it was a very special day for her. The window view was amazing with a beautiful view overlooking the river. The staff and waiter were professional and even had everything organized for my woman's birthday. I would highly recommend for a romantic date, and a birthday dinner.
Ambience was great, reminded me of eating in the dining car of a train with the white table cloths and the shape of the windows, while watching the water. Portions were ample, my husband really enjoyed the calamari. We will definitely return to try other entrees.
Fifth time. Good food, excellent bar & grill, magnificent setting on port side, cool breeze on river, courteous service, well appointed main dining room. Informal or business attire, centrally located for greater Sacramento area. Perfect for RZ with out of towners and multi-modal travellers.
Yet another successful birthday bash at the pilot house. Our party of five were greeted by the host promptly and then seated to a well appointed table. Our server took our drinks and appetizer order both arrived quickly along with fresh bread and oil and balsamic drip. All of the main dishes were excellent and large portions. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Tuesdays must be slow nights. Few patrons and fewer servers. Wait times to take order
15 minutes (glad we brought wine from the bar). To get dinner was another 25 minutes without the lemon chicken they told us would be 30 minutes! Two weekends earlier we had a good experience ordering lunch in the bar.
The Delta King Pilothouse was close to a perfect experience. The server was knowledgeable and this is kind of weird but I could really relate to him? It was quiet, which was great, but mostly empty. I really hope it was just an off night and that they receive enough business to keep the staff paid and the restaurant open, because it’s greet. My partner and I love staying on the Delta King as a date tradition, but we have never had dinner at the restaurant which I regret. She and I both got the fish of the day, a pan roasted California halibut, which was delicious.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and the swordfish he recommended was to die for! He also found me the perfect wine to go with it. My husband's rib eye was cooked just the way he liked it and he savored every bite. Our reservation was at 8pm, so we almost had the place to ourselves, with a romantic table on river side. It was the perfect place to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary.
Decided to have an afternoon break at their bar on a 1898 stern wheeler while we visited Old Sacramento the day before our dinner reservation. Had excellent service, and seated above the river. We were so impressed we returned the next day to have lunch before our river cruise from a company next door. Returned for our dinner reservation, and wife and I had a window table, as requested in our OpenTable reservation. Did help to reserve for 6:00 pm since the place became filled soon thereafter. Still, was quiet, good food served in a timely manner, with excellent service.
There are several good restaurants along the river here, and if you want the quietest dining place, a little bit more upscale, visit the Pilothouse.
