Della Santina's Trattoria - Sonoma Ratings and Reviews
The Manager is rude. We've been eating a Della Santina's for years. Its convenient, the food is good and the outdoor dining garden is relaxed. We will not go back after last night. We made reservations the day before for 3 for outdoor dining, showed up on time to hear the Manager rudely tell us, indoors or not at all. He did not apologize for their error, in fact said it was our fault, no way could we could have had a reservation for outdoors, and made zero attempt to accommodate us. If you go, only book online so you have a record of your reservation,
Sitting in the shady outdoor garden among vines, flowers, and a splashing fountain while enjoying an authentic Italian meal is what you'll enjoy at this family-owned and operated restaurant. While open for lunch and dinner, we have always sought out this charming Italian oasis when we come for lunch in Sonoma.
We rarely return to the same restaurant since there are so many great ones in the North Bay. However, Della Santina is one of our few exceptions. The food is always good, the service great, and the atmosphere delightful. Every time we've visited, the owner was there to greet us. The last time, though booked, they were able to accommodate us when we showed up with more guests than we'd planned.
Everyone ordered a different dish and everyone was happy. We brought our own wine, but they have an impressive list of wines from which to choose, especially since they have their own Enoteca Wine Bar adjacent to the restaurant.
We dined under the arbor in the back; it was charming and warm enough.
Just off the Sonoma town square, this Italian favorite was a great find. The pasta dishes were fresh and expertly prepared, and the menu (including the specials) includes some interesting creations that you don't find everywhere else. The patio was a fun outdoor place to dine as a couple, and although the service was a little slow, the pace of things on the patio was relaxing and comfortable. The place is nice and casual, and the food is not fancy or over-presented. Highly recommend.
Robert is undeniably the best owner & host in Sonoma. He understands hospitality and is always so gracious and welcoming. His staff is very well trained and have all been there for many years (which says so much for Robert) . The food is wonderful every single time. I'm never disappointed.
My traditional spot for graduation celebrations and it never disappoints! There was a special ricotta stuffed mozzarella (I know, cheese stuffed cheese!) that was to die for! The petrale sole was so light and delicious it was heavenly. We brought some pasta leftovers home and they mysteriously disappeared before the next meal... so I'd call it a hit all around!
Great Food, great service, at affordable prices. My wife and I visit Sonoma and Napa for the first time in May of 2014 to celebrate my birthday. I ask to a locals for a nice restaurant for a dinner and all people say this name. The service incredible, (Pablito and George, very nice Mexican guys), the pasta, fish and rotisserie chicken with herbs awesome. The dessert was "The Delicias" a rum cake, that you can stop eating. We repeat 2 days later, and the owner personally attend us. Incredible nice guy and he always is in the restaurant.
One of the best patio dining locations. Our waiter was a bit off. Sent the wrong anti pasti to the table, whcih we accepted and paid for and then forgot to charge us for the wine. When we pointed it out, he did not even thank us. He was very friendly, but a bit flaky.
Great food, great fun service, great location!!! It was our last nite in the wine country...5 couples from different parts of the country who all went to college together. Perfect ending to a perfect long weekend. Will definitely be back as well as recommend!!
Chose to celebrate our anniversary here but walked away feeling let down. Had a nice table outside and service started out ok but became very slow and unattentive. Mozzarella/tomato starter was very good, main courses (lasagna & cannelloni) were tasty but were barely warm. Server never checked on us so we could ask to heat food. Would have liked to try dessert but got frustrated with the lack of attention so asked for check and left. Not the best way to celebrate an anniversary and would not return.
we were celebrating a birthday and we picked the right restaurant! The food was amazing, the service was first class (our waiter was engaging and very sweet; I think he enjoyed serving a tables of 4 partying women.) We will pass the word to our friends that your restaurant is a high-end and fun experience.
You'll not find a better Italian restaurant in Sonoma. Had a recent dinner with friends and gave ourselves to the owner, Rob Della Santina and his capable service team. They asked us about what we were interested in from the menu and specials and then about our wine preferences. the food was excellent, portion size just right and wine pairings delightful. When the weather permits outside dining and you're looking for a relaxing dinner, this is the spot.
My husband and I sat on their patio, which was pleasant, but very loud. There was a screaming kid at one table. The kid was soon replaced by a large group of loud young women. ( Maybe a pre-wedding party?) The food was so-so. My husband had duck, which was overcooked, and I had steak that was undercooked. The vegetables served alongside our entrees had absolutely no flavor. The Affrogato dessert was good and the wine was good, but a bit overpriced. The service was fine...but the wait staff seemed a bit rushed and impatient. I would not recommend this restaurant.
After a transcontinental flight and a few hours in the Wine Country, we introduced our relatives, CA visitors for the first time, to Della Santina. (Our advance reservation request for an outside table was cheerfully met, as we bypassed the line of those awaiting a table.)
Waiter and service staff were cheerful and helpful in assisting in choice of entrees etc. We were handled efficiently and professionally.
Portions were large and delectable.
Will return again, as we do each time we are in Wine Country, Keep up the good work!
I had two occasions to eat at Della Santina's in the past week. The first dinner was to celebrate my friend who was visiting from New York. She happens to love Tripe and the restaurant had that on the menu. My friend said that this was the best Tripe she had ever tasted and really enjoyed the flavors. I had nothing fancy - just some gnocchi in pesto sauce. We were very full but they brought us a complimentary Rum Cake that was so scrumptuous. My friend was very pleased with the service and attentiveness.
This is ourfave in Sonoma. Lovely garden setting, gnocchi like an Italian grandmother makes, dessert thats not on the menu if not too busy, a nice wine list, locals you know with a blend of tourists and all that makes you appreciate the joys of living in this beautiful small town.
This year's we decided to celebrate Mothers' Day at Della Santina. Reservation through OpenTable was very quick and we found a noon opening.
We were very well received at the Restaurant; the food was prepared and served quickly; it was delicious and everyone in our party enjoyed their selection. For dessert we had their Tiramisu; it was heavenly. Thank you Della Santina! We will be back.
A big "grazie mille" to Jorge aka Giorgio, who made our night so incredibly memorable and fun! The food was delicious and we loved sitting out on the adorable patio. I appreciate that you brought my friend a piece of run cake with a candle and I didn't have to ask. Giorgio really made the night with his humor and superb service.
Conveniently located right off "The Square" in Sonoma, Della Santina provides plenty of Old World charm and large portions of old fashioned, bland, poorly presented Italian food. The ambience is pleasant, the rooms are quiet, the staff is friendly and the wine list offers a few bargains - but if you're looking for well prepared, creative Italian cuisine, you'll have to look elsewhere - and at Della Santina's price point, there are plenty of other Italian options in the Wine Country.
Returning to Della Santina's is like meeting with special friends. The restaurant is friendly, charming, and enjoyable to visit. The food is very good, with the kitchen willing to make some adjustments to the menu. Liked their house wines, and their Balsamic vinegar is delicious. The service is nothing short of outstanding. Each time my wife and I eat here, whether just the two of us, or with our guests, we appreciate the food, service, ambiance and value for the money.
Della Santina's is a traditional Italian restaurant in an "old country" setting one block off of the Sonoma Square. There is a choice of dining indoors in the cozy main house or outdoors on the patio. The pastas are house made and all of the classics are on the menu. One of the stand-out dishes is the Spiedini Misto, a selection of rotisserie chicken, duck and stuffed turkey breast. The warm spinach salad was also a hit with our group. If you are searching for classic Italian food in a family style setting Della Santina's is a great choice.
Everything was wonderful. Should have gotten 5 stars but when we first walked in, we were completely ignored for too long. None of the staff even acknowledged us till the host came out front.
Also took a while for the server to stop by. We had to wave him over. Once we got him there, he was a great server.
Otherwise, the evening was great. All the food and desert delicious. Would definitely go back.
