Del Alma Ratings and Reviews
We have been here several times, and it never disappoints. The service is thorough but not intrusive, the atmosphere was great, beautiful setting, and although Latin food is not my favorite, there are quite a few things that I love on the menu. This time we had just tapas, and were very satisfied and full with 4 of them that we shared. The tenderloin, delicata squash, brussels sprouts, and albodingas were amazing. I wish there had been more tenderloin, like about a pound of it, but it was a tapas. The chard that came with it was spectacular!!!
Love love love this.
I have always loved the setting of the restaurant even before it was Del Alma. I would request a table farther back in the restaurant for a quieter meal. We had the bar noise which really wasn't that bad. Took my son for his 50th birthday. The cocktails were great as well as the food. Waitress was a little slow getting to us but really no complaint about service.
This was our fourth visit to del Alma for dinner. The food was very good on the first three visits, but this last visit was somewhat disappointing. The restaurant has great ambiance and a nice location by the river. The main dish featured a large portion of pork, but It was tough and had little flavor. For the money one should expect better quality. The rock fish soup was excellent and their desserts are always superb. The service has also been very good on each occasion and we will probably visit them again.
We love this place. It has the convenience of being close to OSU, just in case you're going to an event there, but I'd go to Covallis just to eat at Del Alma. The delicata squash was magnificent, as were the beets. The chili relleno was unusual and excellent. We had the bunelos for dessert, and it was one of the most unusual, creative, and outstanding desserts we've had in recent memory.
I am sad to make this an issue but only because we go here frequently I need to say what I am about to write. Long story short 3 years ago TO THE DAY we were BADLY served by a lady that worked at LUC, she was so terrible at her job that we literally threw our $300 on our table and walked out with out eating a bite of our food! Needless to say we NEVER went back to LUC because of this lady. So last night here at del alma on dec 31,2017 at 5:00pm seating on the floor level, we noticed we had not seen our server for 26 min. ( which was very odd since this has never happened to us ) I had to ask another server if she can please take our drink order. Colette was the server that was kind enough to get our drink order. We have had Colette as our server a number of times and we LOVE her. So since I am comfortable with her I said to her we have not seen our server once n it's beed 26 min it reminds me of a server we had 3 years ago at LUC. And guess what ???? It was the same server from LUC!!! I can't not believe that we were PURPOSELY ignored for 26 min because she recognized us from 3 years ago!!!! I can not believe that she had the audacity to have that control to ignore us at this restaurant. She finally asked Colette to take her table because she had a bad experience w us 3 years ago. I am appalled by her immaturity of a women!!! If this happens to us again I will go over and beyond the nice manager that does work there. Unbelievable! We are very upset about this and sad because we love the manager Hector and he is an amazing man that takes his work very seriously.
We like Del Ama for special celebrations, especially when we have out of town guests. Even Portland based food people are impressed with the menu, the ambiance, and the formality in a rather small city. Another couple who have been in the food business all their lives and travel yearly in Europe rated Del Ama as unique and "you are lucky to have place like this".
We went for our 49th anniversary. Great ambiance, not very noisy despite several office parties and large groups. I am not a great fan of Latin food (Japapenos, chiles) but found the tapas outstanding, and the spices not too heavy. We had the filet mignon and I asked for a lighter rub of adobo. Just perfect! lightly spiced, but delicious. The most outstanding part of the meal was the tapas. The delicata squash with hazelnuts and pea shoots. It was absolutely amazing. I think next time we will go for just the tapas. Saw several I am dying to try, like the sirloin with chimichurri, the guac and bacon,. etc. Yum. I felt a bit sad for the waiters who had to go up and down the stairs about a million times we were there. Good exercise, I guess.
We had our office Holiday at Del Alma and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Although the restaurant was full, we were able to enjoy our conversation without raising our voices. The food was also a celebration sensation of its own. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
