Hey Open Table.
This restaurant closed on Dec 31st.
Oddly you didnt know that.
I called the restaurant the evening
If my reservation and was advised
By their sister sushi place that degustation
No longer existed.
A bit of an interesting experience arriving
In NYC from SF that afternoon and finding
Out my dinner place is kaput.
Sounds like you have some work to do
On this one
The food here is excellent ! A very romantic spot for a nice date or special occasion. There’s only about 16 seats total, centered around the cooking area, which adds to the ambiance giving it a super special feel. For the food, setting, and atmosphere I thought it was reasonably priced compared to other fine dining experiences (if you don’t order the pre fix menu, which is $85 per person). My boyfriend and I ordered a la carte and shared everything and were completely full by the end. Take my advice and get their famous dessert, which is a sort of fancy creme brûlée French toast. Honestly one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten.
We did the tasting menu. The service was fine, but could have been more attentive. The food was fine, but the only course that really impressed us was the fried oyster "taco" with croquette, which I do highly recommend. Our main courses were the least impressive of the whole meal. We did choose a relatively cheap wine, but even with low expectations, it disappointed. The decor looks a bit like a cheap sushi joint, and indeed the restaurant is part of a sushi place. I was hoping for a much better experience for our special occasion.
it was delicious. only a counter--no tables. you will spend a lot. unavoidable. great for special occasion.
Overpriced and pretentious. Food was average and we were left hungry.
Some of the food lacked flavor, despite being presented well and paired with excellent wine.
Nous avons recu un traitement royal. Qualité de la nourriture spectaculaire et service impeccable.
Thanks!! Merci!
Excellent service and a wonderfully creative menu - simple but such interesting compositions. The cheese with honey and walnuts was to die for as was the anchovy, manchego, onion marmalade and smoked oil! The quail was superb and the torrija lip smacking! Feel like an over stuffed aubergine now - but a happy one :)
In NYC on hols from UK. This place was recommended in one of our tour guides. Booked a table for 8pm Tues night. Wasn't that busy when we arrived but was getting busier by time we left. Ordered the tasting menu for $85. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, all courses were tasty, well cooked and well presented. Wine was also delicious. Service was excellent and we loved watching the chefs prepare our food right in front of us. I would recommend Degustation if you fancy something a bit different!
This restaurant is highly recommended. We had the food and wine pairing option, it was perfect. The food was amazing and the wine was perfectly paired. The service was impeccable, they were right on point as to when to serve each course to us. The workers paid close attention on how quickly/slower we wanted to dine. The flavor of each wine opened up as you ate each course. I look forward to going back there.
They would not bend to food allergies where in the past they did. We have been there in the past and it was fun and the chef was engaging. This time they had a bad attitude, couldn't wait to leave. The portion sizes were very small.
So wonderful. Thank you for being consistently good and exceptional. Our birthday celebration was very thoughtful.
I was extremely disappointed with the level of cooking. My wife and I ordered the chef tasting menu. The first couple of courses were ok (nothing bad but not great either) but the trouble started with the halibut. It was extremely overcooked and dry. I should have returned it but let it be as I didn't think it would be a trend. When I received my seared meat it was cold so I returned it immediately. Dessert was over cooked and gummy and was barely touched. It was clear the two people prepping that night had no idea what they were doing.
Really really good food and service. Highly recommend.
The food was very good, but it seemed relatively expensive with particularly small portions. Seemed like you'd have to spend an extreme amount of money to get a full dinner.
This is one of my very favorite restaurants. The food is wonderful and creative, the service is wonderful. I love watching the care that the chef puts into every plate.
I am so sad to hear that they are changing the style of food and I will no longer be able to enjoy the creations of this wonderful chef.
Restaurant management didn't have the foresight to plan ahead for what would be a crowded Friday night. The menu looks like it's designed for foodies but the actual execution lacks any flavor. Finally, the waitress insisted when we ordered the lamb chops that they would come out rare (which we welcomed) but instead they came out medium well. Definitely not what this place used to be known for. Save your money for better places in the east village.
Would not return ever again. When we got there the chefs were talking and didn't even say hello. The one chef was on his phone right in front of us and then touched the food with his dirty hands. My husband asked him to please wash his hands and respectively so he did but we had to say something for him to do so. The food was just okay and the wine pairing was just okay as well, cheap wines for the price. We let the waitress know that we had to leave by 915 for a show and she said no problem but 915 rolled around and we still had two meal dishes to go and the stove broke down so we didn't get to our two last dishes. We spoke with the owner and said we had to go, he refunded us a little money ($50) back but the bill was over $200+ and we left hungry and dissatisfied. We will never return. The food quality is low, place is decent and service okay too but for the price we wouldn't eat here ever again. Not worth it at all, go elsewhere and spend the money you won't regret it. I guarantee you'll be happier with another restaurant, this is not true farm to table for a chefs table option. Just a few dishes thrown together and very very okay.
This was my first experience at an "experimental" cuisine restaurant for my friend's birthday. I'm a picky eater but everything was well seasoned and delicious. They weren't serving freakish foods you would find on Bizarre Foods lol. The portions are small- tapas like. It is a very small and intimate setting. Overall, i enjoyed my dining experience and would visit again.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Very good service!
An eclectic tasting menu, great flavor combinations take you off the beaten path. Twice visited and spot-on each time with some new, some old, some classic, some exotic, all delicious. Try a wine from Uruguay with the menu. And it's an absolute bargain in New York for a tasting menu...
We used to come many times years ago after they first opened. This gem used to be very difficult to secure a reservation unless booked weeks in advance. The food, service and wine list have always been excellent. The staff is well-trained, the attention to detail has always impressed me. We came this time to celebrate my birthday, but we are now considering to frequent it more often. Their wine list is very well selected and well-priced, which truly makes this restaurant a great value as well!! LOVE IT!!
Love the food! Expensive considering the food portion is so small
It is a quiet place, good food but a little expensive for what it is.
A delicious tasting menu, inventive and varied, decent value at $85 for 7 courses. Fun to sit side by side at the counter in quite a dark atmospheric tiny little restaurant.
DELISH will Dec be back
Fun restaurant with creative menu. The food was refined and delicious. Better for couples than groups because of seating configuration. Super attentive service.
Degustation's tasting menu was well-rounded and creative. All hits, no misses, and a few surprises. If you're into interesting beer, the all Japanese beer menu is superb.
Our dinner here was shockingly bad. We did the tasting menu and everything but one dish was cooked poorly. It was weird and hugely disappointing considering the cost of the meal.
The food has French and Spanish influences.well flavored and beautifully presented. Seven courses given in small portions but enough to satisfy anyone. Service is attentive and helpful.
We have been here several times but have not been back in a couple years. Still great. A good spot for foodies
My fourth visit ... One enters a small, well appointed room with a chef- bar style U shaped seatng configuration awaits. My friend and I watch knowledgeable gastronom wizards adroitly concoct the most cleverly designed dishes. ...we shared five plates, each offering a flavorful surprise. Degustation is a gem....not to be missed by the adventurous palate!
This was our second visit and we have been insanely impressed each time. I think the tasting menu is one of the best meals I have ever had. The service is on-point in all aspects. We continuously recommend Degustation to others.
Two chefs prepare food while surrounded by us sitting at the bar. They have all ingridients in boxes lining up on the bar, so you can see how the chef prepare your dish.
All dishes are in small portion, so if time allows, get the tasting menu.
The seating is a little bit tight, so the table can be crowded after ordering 3 dishes. But each dish's presentation is very well done.
Great for a date or predrink food.
OUTSTANDING - CREATIVE - DELICIOUS. GREAT PLACE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. AN EXPERIENCE.
For was delicious and like the service was perfectly executed
Taste great but food portion was too small and expensive for that price. Specially cheese plate.
I had the chef's tasting. I have gotten it many times, when it was 10 course and 8 course, this new 7 course portions are way too small. But the food was absolutely delicious and amazing! Too bad I was still hungry!
Can't say enough good things about this place. I've done the tasting menu on a number of occasions and it never disappoints. If you are looking for a unique, small, out of the way venue that punches way above its weight class in terms of food, service and overall experience then you need to experience Degustation.
