DEGREZIA RESTAURANT Ratings and Reviews
We have eaten here before and everything was great, however, this time although the food was excellent this service was not. We had to ask for things they gave us a wine menu and left not coming back until we asked. Never asked if everything was ok. Took our dinner plates and never asked us for dessert or coffee and we even had to ask for our bill. Very disappointed when u pay premium prices for the food expect servive
We always visit here on our first night when we travel to NYC. Within 1/2 block of our hotel. Always good atmosphere and food is outstanding. I had the House-made pasta with eggplant and tomatoes. My wife had the shrimp in cognac sauce. Both were delicious.
We especially enjoyed the Hostess, Krystal. She was so friendly and helpful. Made us feel at home right away.
Everything was outstanding until they brought our dinners and my filet mignon with foil gras looked amazing but my husbands rabbit he ordered came as mixed seafood over pasta. We told the server and they took both away. We ended up with the correct entrees but then we were ignored for the rest of our meal. I alerted our server of my distaste for this service on our way out. Again food ambiance and service to start was unbelievable. Just sad we were ignored after a mistake made by the gentleman that took the order.
We went to DeGrezia to celebrate my husband's birthday. We don't live far but frankly had never tried the spot. The decor is old world and the food was ok but everything else would assure that we would never return. It's not inexpensive and the service was just awful. I am not sure they had enough staff to take care of the patrons. Our waiter was nice enough taking our order but we really never saw him again. No one asked us about more drinks, how was dinner, and unforgivably no one asked us about coffee or dessert. Although the setting is nice we found the maitre D' about as personable as the wallpaper. I think the greeting, and how you are seated, set a tone when dining. There are far too many very good Italian restaurants in the area to ever need to go there again. Even though DeGrezia has been there for some time they obviously don't focus on the little things(and big things) that make the dining experience pleasurable.
Pretty restaurant below street level, beautiful ambiance and decor. Very large menu with tons of pasta option, antipastas fish, seafood and meat. Large wine list with prices and grapes for every palate. Caesar and a small green tossed were ordered, very fresh cold salad with house made dressing. The entrees ordered were capellini with lobster meat, and a wheat pasta with egg plant in a red sauce. Both were prepared perfectly and were very tasty. Had a $60 bottle of wine (Italian) that was very good. Although full we opted for a cannoli and cappuccinos.
The service was a bit pretentious. I reserved the restaurant based on their on line menu, however when I requested zabaglione, I was told that they no longer prepare it as it has fallen"out of fashion" and hadn't prepared it since 94. When I mentioned I brought it up based on their website and told the somewhat abrupt waiter that perhaps their website person was "out of fashion". I got a sarcastic laugh.
Go for the food and ambiance and ignore the pretentious wait staff.
We’ve been there before but service was off. They forgot the broccoli raabe that one person ordered and after we reminded them they brought it without the pasta they suggested come with it. They were not very attentive. Compared to our last visit we were disappointed. Seems like they were inconvenienced by our dining there.
The waiter was rude and dishonest. We asked for well vodka and he claimed they did not have any. When the bill arrived we were charged for top of the line vodka. I questioned the charge and he said that was it. The manager came and said next time but there will be no next time. Expensive. Not worth the value
The service was awkward. We had to ask if we could order wine or have a drink, but once they got rolling it was fine. The food was good and it was actually nice to be in at a less lofty, but comfortable spot for dinner. Food was very good. It's a friendly spot.
My wife and I were in Italy this month and longing for authentic Italian food in New York. The fresh branzino was spectacular, the homemade pasta was cooked to perfection, and the appetizers reminded us of some of the best we had in Italy. The staff was very professional and friendly. Degrezia Ristorante is the real thing!
My husband had the fettuccine bolognase which the pasta was like butter. If he could have licked his plate he would have, and I would have crawled under the table. I had the seafood risotto. I couldn't finish mine, but my husband polished it off. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. The clams were
Delicious I wish there was more, the calamari was soft and not chewie. We cannot wait to go back. The restaurant is a bit fancy inside. But we were casually dressed and we were comfortable. We dined after 9 pm
And it was quiet but there were other tables.
Count on Fabiano and his team to make your meal a special event. The food is consistently great and the service outstanding...professional, courteous but not intrusive. The team bends over backwards to accommodate your request. In fact, I saw a member of the team run to a nearby spot to get a special dessert a guest asked for. The team does a great job of recommending wines that are within your budget and be sure to ask Fabiano what he recommends.
Let me start by saying we have visited DeGrezia over twenty times in the past twelve years. It has been one of our all-time favorite restaurants in Manhattan. This particular evening was a disappointment. We had reservations and the restaurant was not very busy. Still, they insisted on seating us directly next to another couple, despite the myriad of empty tables that would have afforded us more comfort and privacy. Not one individual remembered us from past visits (a first but not a big deal) and we did not recognize anyone except the table captain. The food (branzino for me and veal for my wife) was mediocre and I am grading on a curve simply due to the many evenings of wonderful fare. Might I add, these are not "mediocre" prices. The service was okay - no real problems just great lags between visits. As a result of the seating, food and service, we will try something new next time we are in Manhattan for a nice Italian dinner.
Recently ate there over the weekend with a party of 8. We had excellent service with knowledgeable waitstaff. They were attentive without being overbearing. The food was very good. We tried a few of the appetizers (lamb meatballs, borrata cheese and roasted vegetables). Everyone liked their entrees from carbonara, to gnocchi, to the specials of the day. We all shared desserts and the tiramisu was phenomenal. All around, a great choice.
The only drawback for us was that it was a little dark. We felt like we had to get our flashlights out to properly read the menus. I'd highly recommend the restaurant.
I chose this restaurant for my daughter's college graduation, based on reviews, and the choice couldn't have been better. The service was top-notch, the food was outstanding, prices fair. I had a party of 8. The number of people in my group changed a few times, and the staff was very accommodating. DeGrezia offered the perfect special and intimate experience for us. To the staff of DeGrezia, thank you! I can't wait to come back!
This is a wonderful and reliable spot in East Midtown. It has become my go to lunch place, with excellent food and quiet conversation, for a business lunch. If you're in a hurry they can accommodate you if you want to linger they can accommodate you. Traditional Italian food with a focus on fresh seasonal ingredients. The pastas are made in house, the fish always fresh and the wine list superb across the board from style to price. One of the great specialties is a seafood salad which can be eaten as an appetizer or main course. It is plentiful, fresh , light and delicious. In late summer when tomatoes are at their peak have the burrata salad. Highly recommended!
Arriving from Scotland, UK, I have to be as fair as possible. The value for money seemed ATROCIOUS at first - until I wakened up to the fact that the value for ALL New York eating is very seriously bad for all citizens of the UK. Otherwise this was as good an eating place as others in the region.
There were six of us. We had a large, spacious round table, as requested, and received professional, courteous service. The food was outstanding. Everyone loved their appetizers, salads and angel hair with lobster, and the main courses were excellent. Two of us had dover sole, which although on the pricey side at $70, was light and delicious. My husband enjoyed his veal chop. They brought out a desert with a candle in it for our birthday girl, and sang happy birthday, which was appreciated. They assigned the 20% tip on everything, including two bottles of wine, which is not the norm, but the service was exceptional.
