Everything was great. Our waiter suggested the meatball appetizer and it didn’t disappoint. We had pizza and a Philly cheesesteak and all were delicious. We topped off with the brownie ice cream dessert.
The service was good but the food, especially the risotto, was mediocre.
Absolutely loved this place! Highly recommended.
Declaration was awesome! Food is incredible, they had a tasting menu with pan seared scallops and a carrot risotto that was so good, plus the pizzas are amazing. Our server was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the restaurant and menu. Plus the decor is super cool with Founding Fathers' quotes and Ben Franklin on the pizza boxes! Would definitely recommend Declaration!
interesting and creative cuisine if not a super deep menu, but what they do offer is unique and very well done, solid wine list and beer selection....we didn't get to their cocktails but the sounded wonderful..great place to diner before 9:30 club shows.
Fantastic waitstaff, food, and location (went before a show at the 9:30 Club)!!!
Great ambiance, nice staff, delicious drinks. I believe they make their own gf crust, which was really nice. The pizza in general seemed to lack flavor, and my friend who got regular crust agreed. The flour-less chocolate cake for dessert was the BEST I've ever had!
Very Nice servers but there were multiple mistakes by kitchen (received only one of two appetizers, entree didn’t come as ordered -asked for no mayo, lettuce, tomato on sandwich but they put it anyway, relatively long wait for condiments in half empty restaurant
I went with a friend for the first time. John was our server and I was impressed with his menu knowledge and ability to guide us. We tried the Brussel sprouts, the wings and the steak sandwich. All were good and I recommend all of them. Please ask for John as your server as well. I look forward to coming back again soon.
Couldn't speak more highly of our experience at Declaration in Shaw! We visited before a show at 9:30 Club. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and had great, honest recommendations for us. For appetizers, we had the burrata and brussel sprouts, which were both incredible. We had the Thomas Heyward pizza, which was good, but nothing too special. We splurged on dessert and got the Thomas Jefferson flourless brownie and oh my! it was delicious. We will definitely return!
We went here before a show at the 9:30 club. We had a great meal and one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had in this city. The manager (Theodore) was extremely accommodating, courteous and followed up with us several times to make sure we were happy with our meal and our table. Our server was excellent as well. The deviled eggs were delish and the pizzas were really yummy. There's a good vibe too. Highly recommend this place!!
Great service. Waiter knowledgeable and the General Manager was there from start to finish. Food was amazing.
First, there are apparently two locations, so make certain you have the right one.”
The place has a cool vibe, extra friendly service and great food. We had 8 appetizers, each better than the next. The Brussel sprouts were gone in a heart beat. We ended the night with decadent donuts. We’ll be back.
Pretty good place to go. But the burgers are hit-or-miss. The fish was fantastic. The wait staff and host was very nice and helpful.
Do yourself a favor, and get some delicious pizza at Declaration! The staff is amazing and the pizza is to die for. THEY HAVE GLUTEN FREE PIZZA, TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Declaration was a great choice for me and some friends visiting the area to meet up. The place is right in my neighborhood and I'd passed by many times on my way to the Atlantic Plumbing cinema. I'd describe it as a classy pub -- the kind of bar where you can order actually good food but still experience a bar scene.
I ordered a delicious craft cocktail (this is a good place for those) and later we moved on to beers (there was a decent selection). We started with the brussel sprouts appetizer -- they were roasted with blue cheese and diced apples -- and we all absolutely loved it. Like we almost loaded up on brussel sprouts before our pizzas even came, and we noted the irony of our adult palates and how this would make all our parents so proud today.
The pizza was really good, wood-fired pizza. I enjoyed the variety and creativity of the different toppings, and they were all delicious and savory. Note that this is nice restaurant pizza, and not $2 street pizza. There is a time and a place for $2 street pizza, and this is not the place. Come for a sophisticated pie. A really yummy, sophisticated pie.
I don't think you'll regret it, because pizza + drinks + friends. Unless you don't like those things. I mean I don't know, I don't even know you.
Oh, and last but definitely not least, all of the staff were attentive and really friendly. I'm looking forward to going back!
We had an unusual white pizza with Brussels sprouts and loved it. And they were very kind while my 2-year old was not cooperating with a sit-down dinner, spilled his water, etc. My only gripe was that it isn’t apparent from the website or on the happy hour menu that you need to sit at the bar to get the happy hour specials, which makes a pretty big difference in cost when you’re dining with a 4-person family.
This place was amazing in every way. AMAZING happy hour deals, great portions, food was amazing. And our service was PHENOMENAL. I really can't believe the place wasnt more busy we got in without a wait... But everything was perfect all around, will be back
The Caesar salad is one of the best I’ve had. The pulverized pistachos on top make the salad delicious.
Great food, as always! One of our favorite spots to eat
We've visited Declaration four times as we live in the neighborhood. While the food is pretty good (tough to screw up pizza), the service has been terrible every time. They are wildly understaffed. The last time we dined two people up and left and we waited 30 minutes for our first drink.
I have been to Declaration a few times and my on my last visit I could tell that the menu has been gradually reduced and the food isn't the same anymore.
The food was good but the service was fair. We had to keep reminding our server for items that we ordered and some items we didn't receive at all. We most likely will not come back.
We dined at Declaration before going to a concert at the 930 Club. Our waiter was amazing! He had a lot of knowledge and made great recommendations. The handcrafted cocktails and sodas were delicious and the pizza was divine.
This was such a great restaurant. We had ever been there before. The kale salad was excellent and the squash pizza was a taste that new. It was so tasty. The servers were upbeat and attentive. Loved this place.
It's a really cute place and the menu is creative. But there was something off about each dish we had that made me lower our review. For instance, the arugula salad was over dressed and too vinegary, the pizza crust was too doughy and thick and the barrata didn't come with anything to spread it on ... So while very tasty, we were basically just eating spoonfuls of cheese for an appetizer.
Quality pizza, solid ingredients. I appreciate a place where I can grab grab a bite to eat and drinks that is straightforward, nothing fancy or pretentious and has fresh ingredients that just taste really good. For me, that is worth an extra dollar or two, so perhaps some people may think this place is a little expensive for pizza, but I would go back.
Good was ok. A little overpriced for the quality.
Food was ok. Service lacked. At the end of the meal I walked into the poorly marked glass panel by the door. Cut my forehead open. Emailed restaurant asking them to better mark it or take it down. Never received a response. Too bad, this was one of my favs.
I went for an early new year's eve dinner and it was delightful. I was informed almost immediately that I was there during Happy Hour (on new year's eve?!) Great cocktails - get their Manhattan. Pizza was good, not the best I've had but I'm from NY. The staff was awesome and the place looked beautiful. I will be back.
This was my 3rd time dining at Declaration. As usual, the food was fantastic (try their pizzas--excellent), they make a great martini, and the service was extraordinary. I highly recommend this place for just about any occasion.
Like many others, we wanted dinner before catching a show at the 9:30 across the street. If this is your plan, then reservations are a must. We were seated within a few minutes of our reservation time and saw a lot of other parties going on a waiting list or looking elsewhere. Because everyone's there before going to a show, they all arrive at around the same time, which means the servers are in the weeds; while friendly and polite, the service was waaaaaay too slow. Noise levels also quite high-- hard to have a conversation.
The food was really good; nice chewy crust on the pizza, and high quality ingredients. Perhaps a touch too much lemon in the Caesar dressing, and personally I'd like to see a bit more selection in the starters (with 7 starters, do two really need to be devilled eggs?). But what they do, they do very well--- the mac and cheese is pretty awesome (just weird to have mac and cheese before pizza).
Great drinks menu, good beer selection.
We'll be back, although if we want a more "interactive" dining experience, we'll come on a night when the 9:30 is dark.
A solid place for a meal before a show at the 9:30 club
Great place to go before a show at 930 club. Very happy with the drink selection and the wings were excellent.
Great place to go before a show at 9:30. Good food. Quick service
We went to Declaration before a show at the 9:30 club. Our reservation increased from 2 to 3 last minute, which was our fault, and the manager did everything he could to accommodate us! The service was fantastic and so was the food. An order of the mac and cheese is a must! I highly recommend for dinner and drinks and I'm already looking forward to the next time we go!
This was my second visit to Declaration's Restaurant. I am very pleased and look forward to the quality and distinction of this restaurant! Amazing choice!!! Our waiter, John, was extremely helpful and made our quick bite feel as though we were at a private home!
The cocktails were delicious and we put our food order in soon after we got there. Another table sat down and ordered about 10 minutes after us. That table started receiving food, which I thought were appetizers at first, about 20 minutes after their order. I soon realized that was their full dinner. It had been an hour since our arrival and still no food. The waiter asked how we were doing and we both said “Hungry!” He flipped through his book and said “I did put your order in ri.... I’ll be right back!” He went off to the kitchen, said the food will be right out and, magically, 10 minutes our food arrived.
I’m not a complainer but we were waiting at least 45 minutes for our food. Every other moderately good establishment will offer comps, without the customer having to ask. It’s sad the only way you get reconciliations is to complain and make a scene. It was very clear our order was forgotten and no apologies or attempts to reconcile were made. It seemed like they were trying to sweep everything under the rug.
Plus, the pizza was mediocre for the price. The cocktails were definitely delicious though!
Our server was great! Very personable and knowledgeable, and he made some good recommendations. For starters we had the meatball (so delicious!) and the cavatelli mac & cheese. The meatball is the size of a tennis ball, so it's definitely something to share. We shared a pizza and the brownie sundae dessert. Everything was delicious! We were visiting from out of state but would definitely return on another visit.
Is there a way to love and dislike a place at the same time?!? Declaration is such a great place and the people are amazing. It gets a bit noisy and the kitchen can get backed up sometimes but overall great. However, the food is all over the place; pizza is hit or miss... like I literally ordered two pizzas and one was amazing and the other was not very good. The Caesar’s salad tastes like you are sucking on a lemon and yet the entrees are decent. Chef sounds a bit full of him/herself, whenever something is wrong “that is how we meant it to taste” is the response from the kitchen. Wish they would rein in the kitchen as this should be a pre 930 club visit regularly.
