de Medici Cucina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
I just want to say that sir Sirceno was an absolutely amazing and super energetic and highly knowledgeable server! He made our experience in San Diego at the first dinner so exciting and the both of us cannot stop talking about what a sweetheart and how animated and jovial he is! He made our experience just that much more exciting and that we will definitely recommend the restaurant too many many of our friends and family and plan to return back when we visit San Diego again in the near future thank you again so very much for the wonderful time that we had during our five year wedding anniversary!
My husband and I were in San Diego for a conference and looked up restaurants in the area. DeMedici sounded great and we were not disappointed. The service, ambiance and food were all top quality. We were able to have a conversation without shouting above the crowd. Now back to the food-WOW! We both had one of our favorites, veal ossobucco, which was the best ever! The texture was perfect and the sauce was fabulous. The risotto was excellent. Nothing was left on our plate. And the accompanying wine suggested by the waiter was absolutely wonderful. We topped it off with an ice cream sundae- the end of a perfect meal. I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly and can't wait to go back!
A nice alternative to the other loud and new restaurants in the neighborhood. Old world service, excellent food; however would recommend they add Mount Gay rum to their liquor choices. It was nice to enjoy a conversation without yelling. Lasagna was delicious and quite traditional with the bolognese sauce, and quite filling.
We are always happy with our dining experience at De Medici. We make a special trip from Temecula to come down for one of their specialities which is the Steak Diane, made tableside and it is quite a show! On this evening, they were not featuring that on their menu but I requested it and our wonderful waiter, James, who also became our personal chef, made it special for us! It was just as we had remembered, delicious! He also made us a lovely Caesar salad tableside. Best Caeser salad we have ever had! We also ordered the special which was the Chilean Sea Bass...one word, WOW! Such good flavor and cooked perfectly! For dessert, their homemade Tiramisu and again, BEST we have ever had! My mouth is watering now thinking of all these delectable dishes!
There is not too many restaurants left in this town where you can get good quality food AND impeccable service! Every person working in this restaurant is friendly and gives outstanding customer service! They get 10 stars in our book!
This is THE restaurant if you want a superior dining experience. Perfectly attentive staff, warm, inviting ambiance, wonderful wine selection, impeccably prepared dishes using the finest and freshest ingredients. Our special evening out could not have been better.
The food was ok. The restaurant is outdated, seems like they haven't changed a thing since 1990.
Service was good until we weren't the only ones in the restaurant. Seems the staff can't handle more than one table at a time even though there were 4 people walking around. I still had to wait 5 min at least before I could wave someone over to order another beer.
Very disappointing, I took my wife here for her 35th birthday and thanks to this restaurant I look like I made no effort.
I would have gotten a better reaction if I took her to TGIF.
Seriously over priced food from a menu that hasn't changed for over 20 years and an uncomfortable dining experience.
My wife and I went there for our 24th wedding anniversary this weekend. We were impressed with the decor and classy style of the restaurant. My reservations were right on time and were seated immediately by a friendly host. The food was fantastic and the Ceaser salad prepared at our table was an awesome presentation. Best of all was our waiter, "Juan". He was a fantastic attentive waiter with a great sense of humor and friendly demeanor. Great experience and we will return with our friends for the Banana desert.
Thanks for the great night.
Excellent traditional Italian cuisine right in the heart of the Gaslamp District! The menu is a nice variety of dishes, with delicious appetizers, homemade pasta, and entrees of fish, veal, chicken and meat. The service was very good and the entire staff very accommodating. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for tasty Italian food in the Gaslamp!
In the San Diego civic theater area there are many many choices for dinner. We wanted Italian and looked at pics and menus to help decide. Great choice. We got it right this time. Great food, great service, and very friendly staff. The menu had many options, a great wine list, and it was very neat and clean inside.
Was amazing. I couldn't decide and the manager gave me a half pasta option so I could be an entree too.
Even though the boyfriend told them it was my birthday, unfortunately they didn't even say happy birthday or put a candle on the two desserts we ordered and paid for.
One measure of a great restaurant is to look around the room and assess the state of mind of the customers. If this is a measure of success, de Medici was very successful. Every table on this evening could be seen smiling, laughing, and engaged in vibrant conversation. No doubt this was fueled by the exceptional food and an excellent staff. Indeed, de Medici took traditional Italian offerings to a new level. Of particular note was the Caesar salad made table side, which was prepared with entertaining flare and resulted in flavors and freshness that made it arguably the best Cesar we have experienced. Equally noteworthy was the bone-in veal parmigiana - tender, full of flavor, impressively presented. Another sign of a great restaurant is the presence of a veteran waitstaff. De Medici was staffed by a crew of people with many years in the food industry who bring a passion for customer interaction and a pride in their restaurant. They worked together like a finely honed machine. Add a respectable wine list and inspiring Italian decor and there should be no surprise that every table in the restaurant was having a wonderful evening. De Medici is highly recommended.
The service was outstanding and the food was great, especially the Ravioli stuffed with Lobster.
The Veal Parmesan was the largest portion I've ever been served and very good.
The only negative was my son's steak was over cooked, but they replaced it immediately.
Ate there for the first time. Loved our meal. Two for Scott the veal scallopini piccata and they give you look very nice size portion meet was very tender the sauce was lemony perfect. The carrots had a sweet cinnamon flavor which were absolutely delicious and the broccoli was cooked perfectly. My husband and other friend got the fillet of soul and they also loved their meal. The Caesar salad was prepared at the table and was done beautifully. The field greens with feta cheese and sun-dried tomatoes was deliciously done with a very light dressing. We ate inside and had very quiet elegant area, yet we could be dressed casually. They also serve outside, which tends to be noisier for the millennials. I highly recommend going here especially if you're going downtown to the symphony opera or Theatre. Very conveniently located in the gaslamp near Horton Plaza.
