Classic old-guard fine dining ambiance. Extensive menu; I had
Venetian salad and lobster ravioli which was very good but before that an excellent and generous martini. Service was perfect, not overbearing. I will return next trip to San Diego
Wonderful Italian restaurant! Makes you feel like you are eating at a high end restaurant in Italy
Nice experience. We really enjoyed the food and the service was very good.
Food here- always fantastic! The table-side Caesar Salad not to be missed. while the seafood here is some of the freshest available the steaks are out of this world. This was my first time dining here on a Friday rather than midweek. Service was not the same, and instead, was ‘ordinary’. Hope this is just a weekend thing as the Old World service here is normally stupendous.
Food was decent but not not outstanding. Service is reasonable but not real warm. The best part is the ambience.
We've dined here several times & it is our favorite Italian Restaurant. The service is spot on. The food is always delicious.
Great ambiance. Quick service. Mature vibe for downtown. Delicious tiramisu!
This was our 8th visit to this restuarant, we drive down from Long Beach with the whole family to celebrate our anniversary. The food was fantastic as always, the resturant is beautiful and normally the service is great but unfortunately not this time. Our waiter was very snooty, treated us like we didn't belong there. We did have 2 children with us, 2 and 7 yrs old, who I felt behaved, so maybe that's what he didn't care for. even though they have been coming with us since they were born. The rest of the staff was wonderful.
Great food! Great service!
I absolutely love this place, and always go there when I'm in town. The food, and service is always perfect.
Toller Service und sehr nettes gemütliches Ambiente! Lasagne Bolognese war gut aber eine kleine Portion & die Spagetti vongole waren ebenso gut, auch viele Muscheln!
Very good dining experience. Would definitely recommend
Excellent service. Meal was well-timed and not rushed. Table side Caesar salad is a must. Server was knowledgeable about the menu and answered questions. They looked at our reservation and saw it was our anniversary and delivered a slice of cheesecake that was truly a delicious end to a wonderful meal.
Great dinner and excellent service. I highly recommend this restaurant and will make it a must dine experience every time I’m in San Diego!
This was my first visit and we were celebrating my best friend’s birthday who was visiting from out of the state.
They had a wonderful tableside menu presentation similar to what you would see at Morton’s Steakhouse.
The Caesar salad was prepared and served table-side with lettuce being crisp and dressing having great flavor.
Lobster Ravioli was slightly al-dente and delicious with a rich tomato cream sauce (my only complaint was the bread wasn’t that great to dip in that delicious sauce).
We all ordered the house specialty Sole Portofino which was served nice and hot, delicious and plated perfect.
I give it 5 stars.
Fantastic dinner! Second time as good as the first!
Wonderful and delicious food - service was exceptional and the decor is warm and inviting. Went to dinner with 3 colleagues and we had a great evening! Highly recommend
Best Caesar Salad ever! Thank you, Juan.
Service was excellent; we enjoyed the wine decanting and pour.
Our only disappointment was in the veal piccatta--rather than a sauce reduction; it was heavy with cornstarch which congealed as it cooled.
This place is the Gaslamps best kept secret when it comes to Italian food! The service is fantastic, the food is amazing, and the owner is personal and accommodating. They legitimately have the best Cesar salad and veal parm I have ever had and I grew up in NY. Highly recommended!!!!
This was a disappointing restaurant because previous reviews were promising. The food was adequate, but certainly not great. The salad was dry and required me to add oil/vinegar, which luckily was already at the table for the bread. The bread rolls were also dry and marginal quality bread. The portions were generous, but unfortunately the quality of the food just wasn't very good.
Got a great elevated round booth. We had a nice quiet dinner on a Sunday night.
de Medici is an excellent choice for Italian food in the Gas Lamp District. It's a favorite of ours for "upper end" Italian food. Great atmosphere for couples dining, not really set up for kids. The staff is top notch!
The food and service were phenomenal. The clams have to be some of the best we have had and presentation of specials didnt miss a beat. Our server did a wonderful job beginning to end.
This is one of our favorites in the Gaslamp/downtown SD area. The food is excellent, they have great Chianti and the service is very strong. Old school Italian, and the tableside ceasar salad is very good. Linguini with clams is simple and has many little steamed clams in the shell. Perfecto!
Great place. The owner was awesome and very involved
Every time I visit San Diego, de Medici is a must visit. The food and service is always consistent always outstanding.
We were helped right away. Food was absolutely amazing! Very beautiful on the inside. Waiter was very helpful and had a fun personality making my wife and I laugh. We were celebrating our 1 year Anniversary and they surprised us with cheesecake for dessert with a candle. Definitely worth every penny.
Very attentive serving staff and the food was excellent. Wines - very good selection
Decent food , poor service we were a table of 5 squeezed in the corner , we had to ask for our menus and then a drink menu. For being 2/3 tables in the restaurant service was terrible The manager and her servers just sat at the bar.
My absolute favorite restaurant in the world. This is a such a special place. Table side Caesar is amazing and man oh man the steak Diane (off menu) is made table side. It is just to die for. Service is amazing. An absolute must visit!!!
The alfredo pasta was absolutely fantastic, and the service was great as well.
What a wonderful restaurant. Felt so welcome even before I walked in the door. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. The Caesar Salad prepared at your table was so fun to watch and was absolutely the best Caesar I have ever had. It was a special night out for me and my friends this fantastic restaurant didn’t disappoint! Every time I travel to San Diego, this restaurant will be part of my agenda! Thanks to the entire staff.
This could possibly be the best meal I have had. It was fabulous!
Everything was fantastic from the wait staff, the food, the ambiance and everything about the evening. They really made us feel special.
This was the best meal that my wife and I have ever had. Juan and the staff were truly outstanding
Food and service was excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to go back the next time I'm in San Diego.
THE service was excellent. We were given a lot of attention. The owner was very gracious and appreciative. We were a party of five and each one said the food was terrific. The chichen marsala was truly authentic, very light brown marsala sauce and lots of mushrooms. Most restaurants smother the chicken marsala with a brown sauce and pass it off as the real thing. This is a truly old world classy restaurant.
What a wonderful restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Best Italian food around.
Wouldn’t sub Vegetables for pasta. And pasta was flimsy. Disappointed. But veal was good.
I spend a good 45 minutes searching through the restaurants on Open Table looking for a menu with food I would order and comfortable seating. De Medici was the only one downtown that appeared to fulfill both. We were seated at a nice booth away from other diners. Scampi was very good with 4 large prawns. Fettuccine was very good as well. I would have liked to see a few more pasta options on the menu with ability to add chicken. The fettuccine was the only entree that appealed to me on the menu. Caesar salad for two prepared table side is pricey at $30 so we didn’t order it but saw two other tables did. Beer options were limited to mostly cheap US beer and don’t recall any craft beer options. They did have a moscato though which many restaurants don’t carry! A complimentary cheese cake was delivered in congratulations for our anniversary. That was very thoughtful and it was the best tasting! Owner came by before we left and also congratulated us and thanked us for choosing her restaurant. I would strongly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.
