de Medici Cucina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
As usual, we loved our dinner here. Food was excellent. Staff was excellent from reception to waiter to water's assistant to manager stopping by the table. The only disappointment was the caesar salad. It did not have a great taste, as we have always had in the past. Realizing that the salad is prepared by our waiter tableside, we are in his hands as to how well he can make the salad. Frankly, we will probably pass on this salad next time we visit. At $30.00 for two salads it has been worth it in the past. But this time around it was a disappointment. They have many other appetizers to select from and we will gladly try another choice.
Absolutely fantastic! Seated us ahead of scheduled reservation time. Phenomenal service, Juan was superb! The Ceasar salad, that was made from scratch in front of us, was the best we have ever had! A rose was presented to my wife as soon we were seated, this was just a small gesture on the staff's part but was a huge hit! Would definitely return!
This is one of our favorite restaurants! We brought another couple here last year and now it's one of their favorites as well. On this visit, the food was excellent, as always! Never anything but perfect! However, on this visit, 2 things were not up to the high standards normally we experience here. One, the service was not top notch, as it usually is. It was adequate, but not great. Also, we ordered 2 classic cocktails, and they were not great either. They were both very weak and either the waiter or bartender wasn't sure of the contents of one, so our waiter asked us for that. When served, it didn't taste like what was described was used. Wine, with dinner, was very good. This place is on the high side, but normally worth every cent for a special occasion dinner out.
My husband and I use to love this place, so going there for this years Valentine's Day made us both excited. We walked in and the place looked amazing, but that was the end of our excitement. Food was bland, customer service was rushed and terrible. So sad because before we left for Japan 4 years ago I would have never guessed I would have come back to this. 😱😡😥
I was giving the restaurant a second chance. The first time a number of months ago was so-so. I decided to give it another try because I had a coupon. Our waiter was very attentive and personable. He recommended the signature sole stuffed with lobster, shrimp and crab. Wanting fish, I thought I'd give it a try. It came on a plate that looked impressive, but when I dug in, I noticed the mashed potatoes looked, felt and tasted like they had been pre-squeezed onto the rim of the plate MANY hours earlier and simply heated up on the plate when I ordered. The sole wrapped around the inside stuffing, but neither the stuffing or the sole had any taste. It wasn't well seasoned and could have been anything stuffed inside the bland thin sole. It also happened to be one of the most expensive dishes on the menu.
We took our parents out for New Year's Eve expecting great things (they are in their 80's). The food was fair at best. It was early, so crowds did not impact the quality of the food. We ordered standard lasagna, spaghetti and steaks. Again, we would rate this as "fair," but for the price we would never go there again. Disappointing to say the least. The only positive was Juan's outstanding service that night!
We came here for a client dinner. The hostess saved us two different tables and let me choose which one I wanted, even on a busy Saturday night. Everyone from the hostess, waiter, wine steward and owner were lovely and friendly. The menu is huge and varied. There are family recipes from every region in Italy. The wine list was extensive. It was a lovely evening and our clients were impressed as well. We will definitely be back next time we are in town for a conference!
For the final dining experience of our San Diego trip I was wide open to all the SD had to offer. I just got lucky picking de Medici from all the great options in the Gas Lamp district. It is a class white table cloth Italian atmosphere. Our waiter was prompt and very personable throughout. I chose the signature dish of the house - the Sole Portofino. It was delivered with the pomp and circumstance it deserved and lived up to its reputation. Dessert was excellent - as was the entire experience.
This is a really good place for dinner. The atmosphere is formal, but not stuffy. Service is excellent and there is a wide variety of dishes on the menu. The wine list is pretty good as well. This is the second time I was there and it was a good as the first time. I highly recommend the place.
