Excellent dinner and service. Loved the burrata app and the lasagna was outstanding. Didn't love the meatballs though.....they were a little bland. Justin, our waiter was very attentive and outstanding. He was a very hard worker with a great attitude.
Great service and food. The host was good as well. We were created by manager in a suit. He was very knowledgeable
The food was fabulous. I always get the veal chop. The other guests raves about the sea bass, the spaghetti and meatballs as well as the thinly pounded veal chop served parmigiana style.
This was an amazing experience! We were wanting to try some authentic Italian food while in San Diego, and we got exactly that !
The best veal parmigiana in the city!!!
Great restaurant ! Food was fabulous
Eh. Nothing was wrong with the food, but nothing was particularly good either. The cioppino was tired and overloaded with Callimari. The scallops had been sitting around in the broth too long or somewhere. Shrimps were tough, etc.
Wouldn’t recommend at these prices.
Excellent Italian restaurant in Gaslamp area. We were there for dinner and the quality of food and service was great. We were there on a Monday night and the place was really quiet so atmosphere was lacking somewhat. However we really enjoyed outperform meal and would definitely return.
Food was average at best but the real problem was the slow service , I had pasat pomodoro which was taty but the drink and canoli were pretty bad
Soooooo much garlic in their signature Caesar Salad that it was inedible. Garlic should enhance not overpower !!! Any chef should know that and adhere by it. If I had to guess, I’d say that there was a full cup to cup and a half (or more) of minced garlic added to the dressing that was made table side. Simply gross belching garlic 24 hours post Caesar Salad. Yuck! The other entree staple of this restaurant is the sole stuffed with lobster and shrimp. It was a nice light flaky fish that was stuffed with fishy tasting/smelling and wet shrimp and lobster. The lobster and the shrimp both tasted like they were from frozen rather than fresh. Quite disgusting. I just ate the top fish portion and left the rest on my plate. Don’t understand how this restaurant gets such good reviews. The owner was quite gregarious stopping, meeting, and chatting with patrons around the restaurant all night. He spoke and spent time with every table except ours. I even asked my husband at one point if he was feeling like the step child at a disfunctional family function. His response was, “YES!”. Regardless of that though, our meal was $160 for two and it was such a huge disappointment.
Was in from out of town. What an amazing experience and DELICIOUS food. The owner Sal is part of the experience and made sure to stop and add to what was already a tremendous night. If you are from out of town and want a great night out start here!!!!
It’s overall a very good restaurant. The owner was very nice to us. But I was obviously discriminated by my waiter from the beginning because I’m Chinese and I asked for the Restaurant Week menu. He was much more polite to my white American friend than me until he figured out I was the one who gonna pay for the food lol
We are repeat customers and are never disappointed. We had a wonderful evening. Food was absolutely delicious, service was exceptional, and we could not have been happier. Cannot wait until we return.
They were great and so was food
One of the best meals that we have enjoyed our. Ever. Fantastic flavors and attentive staff
I live in orange county California. I visit San Diego every 2 to 3 months and make it mandatory that I eat at your establishment. I have never received poor service or poor quality of food. It is definitely one of my favorite San Diego Restaurant
Great food. And a surprise piece of cheesecake because it was a birthday. Nice touch completely unexpected.
My go to Italian restaurant when I’m in San Diego!
Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.
Outstanding as always. Juan is the best!
Delicious veal. Incredible service. Authentic restaurant!
Fantastic dining experience. Attentive staff and a very extensive menu and wine list. Definitely a restaurant to visit.
We got there about 25 minutes before they opened but the owner welcomed us with open arms. Excellent service by everyone and the food was fantastic.
Awesome food, excellent service. If you are looking for good Italian food, this is the place to go!
Great traditional Italian cuisine. We seem to book a meal there every time we come to San Diego.
juan is the best waiter by far and makes you feel like family. The food is amazing !!!
We went to celebrate birthday’s. In the end it was nice & decent food, but not impressive for price point.
Waiter came to take drink order after 5 minutes of sitting with no menus. Took food order 30 min later. While experience over 2 hours.
We had clams, which had sand in them. The steak & pasta were good but expensive. $45 for a steak with a few veggies. Cesar salad was $32 minimum, but says $16/person for 2 or more. It is prepared table side, but cheaper at Ruth’s Chris. $8 for any additional sides.
It’s a nice old steak house atmosphere, with big booths, fancy linens, & waiters pushing the food in on carts. It was overall a decent experience, but for price point it was underwhelming & service could have been better. Bathrooms were not well kept.
Not great for kids or large groups, from what we saw, but we had a kid and they were not rude at least.
Probably good place to go on a Tuesday night, but don’t come too hungry.
A pleasure to eat at de Medici Cucina Italiana. Service was truly amazing and the food was a delight. A little pricey, but well worth it. Looking forward to eating there again on our next trip to San Diego.
Good food and service. Sitting outside was quite pleasant.
Great service and food
We dined here not long ago and had a wonderful experience so we opted to come back for our anniversary. No complaints about the food, it was great but as soon as I told our server that we would be sharing a meal his demeanor immediately changed. My wife and I always share meals and I was surprised to get this kind of attitude. This is a wonderful high end restaurant but I'm not going to pay these kind of prices to get an attitude from a server. Spoiled the event for me.
Absolutely spectacular. Juan (one of the owners) really took care of us on a Friday night. Food was superb and the service was 5 star. We will be going back next month when we visit our daughter at SDSU!
The food was amazing and the owner makes the experience one of a kind. I highly recommend going here
Outstanding service and food. So glad we dined with you. Owner’s personal attention to us was a bonus.
de Medici is a wonderful Italian restaurant. We liked it so much we dined there twice during the week we were in San Diego. It's located in the Gaslamp area of San Diego.
We enjoyed the Insalate de' Medici and the Venetian Salads. For Second I liked the Scaloppine alla Piccata and my wife loved the Filet of Sole. We also enjoyed the Salmon. For our second evening main course, we had the special Sea Bass, which was excellent.
The deserts are excellent. On our first night, we loved the Cheesecake. It was among the best we've every enjoyed. Very light and flavorful. Our second night we loved the equally very good Tiramisu.
For wine, they have a very good selection of quality wines. However, prices were a bit unusual. Some wines were less than I typically see while others were higher. If you know what to order, you can get a quality wine at a reasonable price.
Our servers were Sean and Justin. Both were very good. You can't go wrong with either of them.
This was my second time to dine there. The first time I came across the restaurant with friends and I had always wanted to try it. It was so great that I went back with my boyfriend. The ambiance is lovely as they have nice tables and chairs and some VIP booths. The decor is elegant yet friendly.
For this second time, we made a reservation as it was my birthday and my boyfriend wanted to take me someplace nice. So glad to go back! They asked if it was a special occasion and when I told them, they reserved a VIP booth. Sal, the owner, met us at the door and brought us to our table. The staff is nicely dressed and they are gracious. Sean was our waiter and he was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed cocktails and warm bread.
For our meal, my boyfriend got the salad wedge and loved the homemade blue cheese dressing. As for entrees, he got the filet mignon and lobster and I got the sole which is their house specialty. Both were absolutely amazing.
For dessert, I had heard about their table-side bananas foster and that is what I chose. Sarceno prepared it and it was as fun to watch as it was to eat! I never knew that you put orange and lemon zest in it.
Whether you are having a romantic evening with someone special or a nice dinner with your family (saw kids there and they seemed to love the food), de Medici is wonderful. It's a quiet, elegant yet friendly place in a busy, downtown world.
Everything was amazing!!!!!!!! Would recommend to everyone ... best food we’ve had in a long time.
The server totally disregarded my food allergy to onions. I asked what he recommended, which was their signature seafood dish with a stuffing of shrimp, crab, and possibly lobster – and onion. I didn’t know until I started to eat it. I tried to eat around the onion but ended up leaving most of a $45 entree on the plate. The server only came back to bring the check and was totally oblivious. He didn’t Sven ask why I hadn’t eaten most of my food. I gave this restaurant a more generous rating than I should just because the salad was delicious.
The Caesar salad is a must! It is prepared table side for two and is the best! Everything was delicious and the service was A1 top notch!
