My 1st time at DBA. The restaurant wasn't very crowded but was pretty noisy. It was hard to hear the other person at times. I had the chopped pork which was probably close to the best I've had in Atlanta. I had the cream corn side, which wasn't as sweet as I like, but I'm sure is tasty to some. I also had the brunswick stew which was horrible and bitter. Ironically, they were out of mac & cheese & green beans, 2 of my fav side options, & they were getting ready for a super bowl crowd?? I also had the beef chili nachos as an appetizer which was very good. The banana pudding for dessert was ok, but I'm not sure it was much better than what you would get from a box. I'm not sure I would choose it over Fox Brothers, but I prefer TX bbq.
Great ribs. Fantastic nachos. Delicious moonshine slushies. Love this place!!!
Excellent barbecue. The server could have been friendlier....but over all a great place to eat
Meats where really good. Love the Brisket.
White whiskey and deep-fried bacon...? Yes, please.
The food was good. It is not a place you go for atmosphere or fancy dining for what it is, it does it well!
Waiter told us the ribs were fall off the bone, they were not. Pulled pork did not have much flavor, had to use the sauce to add flavor. Service was excellent and sat down immediately.
Very loud music. Not a fun place to meet with friends.
You can't mess with GREAT BBQ -- and it's hidden in VaHi at D.B.A. -- the brisket falls apart, the ribs are smoked to perfection, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better pulled pork in all of Atlanta. They should consider renaming it "Pulled Porque," it's just that good. We'd be remiss in failing to mention that all of their sauces are spot-on as well!
The service was excellent. I had the recommended spare ribs, they were a little tough and held fast to the bone. Otherwise, the food was reasonable for the price.
decent bbq - not the best - but decent. great service
Better BBQ than average. Fried Okra not so good and grits seemed salty. Fried green tomatos were a bit red. On the other hand the Brunswick stew was on the sweet side but in a good way. Ribs and chicken were good as well. The fries were great..nice and crispy
Had a birthday party here and everything was great. The food, drinks, service were all outstanding! Will definately be back.
Bad: Chopped chicken had bones in it for 2nd visit in a row. Patio is pretty boring.
Good: Good value, great appetizers.
The pulled pork was good and I am grateful to have a B-B-Q restaurant in my neighborhood. There is however better Barbeque in the Atlanta area but none as convenient as this. I think the restaurant is a great addition to the Virginia Highlands area
On a 95 degree day in Atlanta the AC either wasn't working or the management decided to let their patrons suffer. A miserable experience. We won't be back.
Nice relaxed and casual atmosphere. Smoked turkey and brisket were moist and flavorful. Loved the Georgia muscadine wine, a true southern wine. Service was well timed, without numerous interruptions or long lags without service. Easy acess and parking, a real find in VAHI. Will definitely return.
As always, it was a great experience. the food is over the top. friendly efficient staff. one of my favorites in a neighborhood know for dining.
Little noisy, but food well worth it.
Great BBQ! The smoked tofu is yummy.
This was our first time to visit D.B.A. Barbeque. It was Father's Day so was very busy and noisy but the barbeque was very good. We will definitely return and looks like they have nice outdoor seating area as well.
Although the food was pretty good, the service was okay. We went on father's day expecting at least an acknowledgment to the father. None! I had to ask for the father's day special and it was said so fast, I didn't even understand. I mentioned that I had a baby and they stuck us in a booth with no room for my baby's seat. For our first time there and especially on a special day, I was disappointed with the service. Food was good but probably wouldn't drive far to get to this place.
While the food was tasty, it was cold. We had a party of 6 and all of our plates were cold. It would have been ok if it were just warm, but icy is unacceptable. If I'm eating a hot dish I expect it to be close to that. I mentioned our chilled plates to the waitress and she said she would mention it to the staff so that our next round of food could be hot. That didn't happen and we ended up pickin over our food. Thank goodness for alcohol and good company. Other than, everything else was fine.
Looking to try BBQ that was convenient for all so thought we would try DBA BBQ. Had my mouth set on all the BBQ attributes, Bruns Stew, smokey meat, big Banana Pudding desert. The smell was great and things were looking promising. The fried pickles are a great starter as were the pimento cheese deviled egss, Now that's different! I got the pulled pork plate and while tender, the meat was lacking that really smokey flavor. The stew was really more of a bean/corn soup so I wouldn't call it Brunswick stew. And while the pudding was very tasty it was a limited portion, as were many of the sides, a smaller prtion than you may expect at a BBQ joint. It was good, just different, not your traditional BBQ.
This place is near our home and we were not big fans when it opened - HOWEVER, we've recently returned to find that a new chef is in charge and the food is MUCH BETTER!
We went for Sunday brunch earlier this year but on a recent return have found the brunch menu has been discontinued.
D.B.A. is worth a try - check it out.
Food was really good. Nice beer selection.
Service was great! Food was great, except the ribs, they were way too dry.
Great selections for all type of BBQ fans. Great that there was an actual vegetarian option, at a bbq place! It made going with a crowd of mixed eaters much easier!
I had luch and the bar-b-que was nothing special. I ordred something simple a pull pork sandwich since this was my first visit. The sandwich was just okay.
We decided to give DBA another try after a poor previous experience. Sadly, we left feeling the same way. It was a Friday night, and they were sold out of short ribs and banana pudding. They also seemed grossly understaffed in wait staff (and overstaffed with hosts/hostesses, which was odd). My pulled pork was fatty and luke warm, and my husband's ribs were tough and over-cooked. One positive is that the grilled cream corn is excellent. Other than that, though, it was a poor experience, and it's safe to say that we won't be returning.
DBA fills a niche in the Virginia Highland neighborhood. It is a casual, non-pretentious, and comfortable spot that not only serves the surrounding community, but offers a unique experience for those visiting from other places. It has a split personality--early it is a favorite for families with kids, and, over the course of the evening it morphs into a cool, funky hangout--ideal for those who want a cool drink at the bar while catching the game, or just to have a late diner while enjoying live music.
And there is plenty of free parking which is a rare treat in Virginia Highland. No valets. No greedy meters. No searching for a space on a side street.
A pleasant family oriented Virginia Highlands spot. More authentic barbecue is available elsewhere.
Great food, and a great covered patio!
Great food and fun drink menu! Always very easy to work with as it relates to group reservations, birthdays, etc. Very friendly mgmt and servers.
The food was pretty good. Not the type of bbq I am used to since I am from the south, but the drinks were good!
Pulled Pork and Sandwiches were particularly good -- as were the Dry Spare Ribs. The real standout, though, is the cocktail list -- where some of the grooviest drinks in the city are served at prices that don't require an AMEX Black.
Rock on DBA!
Kids' meals were tastier than your average kid menu offerings at other restaurants. The pulled pork was a bit dry, though tasted better when the sauce was added. Great choice when visiting the Ferbank (10 min. drive away). Would go back with the kids if we are in the area. Reasonable prices.
Great ambiance and good service. Unfortunately the food was not so good. Several meat plate were dry. the corn muffin with cheese were the best.
Fantastic Q and always dependable service. The best pimento cheese and ranch dressing in town.
