Dawson's - Hyatt Regency Sacramento Ratings and Reviews
I thought I had a reservation and must have made a mistake and not "confirmed" on the open table website. The hostess was not accommodating at all. I was with clients so I looked on open table and asked her to just wait list us because I saw a reservation was open at 8:15. She said she had NO availability the rest of the night. So, I made the reservation via Open Table.
When we went back she had waitlisted people behind us! In the end we were seated at 8:15, the waiter was wonderful and the food was great.
I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Very nice. Employees were smiling and nice too. For a steakhouse serving prime meat, it was disappointing that the steaks were not cooked as requested. Two of the four steaks came out overdone. Medium came out well done and the blue rare came out medium. It was fixed quickly. We liked the side dishes. However, for the price, I expected better food. I am a goodie and have high standards though.
Dawson's is the epitome of a top ranked steak house. Ambiance very energetic but nice sort of like a really good restaurant in San Fransisco. If your at a convention at the Hyatt and are getting your expenses reimbursed, it is a really good choice. It is very expensive and the menu is all al a- cart. Between my wife and I , had a three top shelf drinks and a glass a 91pts wine. , That totaled close to $50. Total bill with tip around $160 with tip. Therefore, recommend this as a special event type of restaurant. Anniversary, birthday, whatever.
The halibut was dry, but served with a beurre blanc sauce and small potatoes that was delicious. My friend loved her prime rib, but the whipped potatoes arrived cold. Our server was really busy and we couldn't get her attention so we finally told the assistant server when she arrived to clear the table. She offered to bring a new serving, but we were done with dinner at that point. We asked to order wine when our dinner was served, but by the time she returned to take the order and it arrived, we were done with dinner.
I have been a season ticket holder for Broadway Sacramento for 11 years. For about 8 years now I dine pre-theater with Ardy as my server. You know it just doesn't get any better! From the moment I walk in to the moment I leave I am treated as a valued guest!!! Not to mention the food is spectacular! The Creamed Spinach I have at each visit :) I was with my best friend and we shared everything so we wouldn't have to leave anything on our plates and trust me we didn't!
We had the Baby Gem salad with shaved apples and & apple butter, YUM! Our entree choice was the Scallops with a cauliflower and currant chutney! To die for! For dessert the Bananas Foster Tart...there wasn't a speck left!
Dawson's is always my # 1 choice with Ardy being the BEST SERVER in SAC! Can't wait until my next show!!
We ordered scallops.. semi tasteless not a good char on edges. Baked potato 3 small pieces of bacon/ sour cream. Lamb chops were good not great, Tiny beet salad, but most of all we ordered bananas foster and had it taken off our bill sssooo bad!
It’s to bad the place seems nice
On this visit we were disappointed with the Prime Rib. It was not "prime" and should have been for the price. It was also way undercooked. We ordered medium rare and we received lass than rare. We didn't have enough time to have them redo the order so we ate what we could. The plates were nicely presented and the crab cakes were wonderful. Salad was way overpriced for a dinner accompaniment and the dressing was rather blade for "Caesar."
We enjoyed craft cocktails by knowledgable bartenders prior to dining & were seated for dinner according to our reservations on that exceedingly busy Friday night. We received outstanding attention & service at our lovely table from the hostess seating us to our water glasses that remained filled & onto the terrific, personable care from our server. We lacked for nothing & the courses came perfectly timed with additional wine we ordered coming to our table in a timely manner. Our experience at this popular dining destination was stellar adding to the unforgettable musical theater performance afterward. I highly recommend Dawson's for all it's fantastic offerings.
Dawson's has a distinctive ambience--dark wood, elegant setting, etc., and it seems especially well suited for fall/winter dinner gatherings. It was performing at a peak level in spite of a fairly crowded pre-theatre rush. All four of us were impressed wth our entrées and the side dishes.
Good food, great service, terrific ambiance. I have always had a wonderful dining experience when I visited Dawson's. The restaurant doesn't open until 5: 30 pm, so it is a dinner destination. I chose it to enjoy a pre-theater meal. The menu is not expansive but there are sufficient options to accommodate most appetites. Prices are a bit higher with entrees in the $30-$40 range and sides priced separately. Wine range is between $12-$20 a glass. The restaurant has a warm, cozy vibe but the best part, beyond good food, is the customer service. It is efficient and attentive without being intrusive. If you want a special night out and can afford to spend a bit more on yourself, then this is a great restaurant to go to.
Normally, we love Dawson's. It's kind of our "place" for special occasions and date nights. We have been here at least five times. We typically spend $200+ on dinner at Dawson's.
This is the first time I have been so severely disappointed in my experience. Everything started off normally, although I thought our oysters were slightly fishy for my taste -- but boyfriend loved them. Then the mains and sides came and this is where I was let down. Both of our filets were much too rare. Not one to send things back, we overlooked this minor issue. Then we tried our sides, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, and they were salty to the point of in-edibility. It took a lot for us to say something, and when we did we basically had to convince our server to take the items back and replace them. Now, mind you, my boyfriend usually loves these mashed potatoes more than his own mother's, so the salty (almost powdered-tasting I thought) potatoes we received were so disheartening. We received replacements and yet again, were disappointed by being served virtually the same thing. We didn't eat our sides at all.
To add insult to injury, the kitchen staff (in full view) were loudly laughing and joking the whole time -- it felt like they were more concerned with having fun than providing quality food. Our server badmouthed other servers and the kitchen staff and was more focused on telling us entertaining stories than making sure we were satisfied. The excuse for the mashed potatoes was that the woman who used to make them is pregnant and no longer makes the dish. (Recipes? Standards of taste?) Being a very slow Monday night (at one point we were the only diners), I really expected more. Nothing was comped or discounted, no apologies were offered, and the manager on staff couldn't be bothered to make an appearance.
I have never written a review of any restaurant until now and am truly compelled by sheer disappointment.
We had an open evening visiting Sacramento and were struck by Dawson's internet messaging of fork to table and local grass fed beef. So we decided to try it. The food was very good and also you pay for it. I loved the Lavosh bread they serve in the bread basket and their fresh creamed spinach was great. It turned out that they had only one grass fed beef item--a disappointment and a little misleading from what they advertise. I would go back to this restaurant but also might be tempted to try another spot next time I am in Sacramento.
This was one of the best steak dinners I have had. We all had the small filet and an enhancer of lobster, shrimp or scallops. My husband, son and I enjoyed a very special meal for my 12 year old's first trip to Sacramento. Our server, Catalina, was outstanding.
Review would be 4 1/2 stars in the 4 star categories above if it was available. Only gripe was my wife asked for extra potatoes in lieu of the peas that came with the chicken dish ($30 with a small breast and some cut up thigh meat; along with a few pearl onions, a couple of small potato chunks and some peas; not a lot of food for that price but given who they're up against I still gave them a "good" rating for value); wasn't given any; and then when that was pointed out the waiter tried to claim that she had been. (She got two small bites of potatoes, same as I did with the same dish). He was otherwise impeccable; attentive without being intrusive, often a fine line, and when he saw she was upset by his explanation, he asked if there was something else he could bring, and we wound up sharing some yummy mashed potatoes on the house. A lot of restaurants could learn from how he handled the one glitch we experienced, quickly recognizing he had approached the situation the wrong way by trying to somehow pretend the obvious wasn't true. The quality of all the food was excellent; on a par with a recent trip to Hawks. Not quite as elegant a venue but very classy in its own right.
The service was #1. Friendly gave great suggestions, I had the crab cakes and a salad. Salad was excellent crab cakes were ok. Not the best from my experience but certainly not the worst. Only 2 small cakes for the price so if you want to share with more than two people order a couple. Had a really yummy Pinot and again the hostess and our server were so nice! Would definitely eat there again!! Good cocktails as well.
A fantastic experience. Our food was perfect - the prime rib was the best we have had in a long time. We ordered appetizers, salad and split a dinner. The service was attentive without being overwhelming. Each course was served at exactly the right time and pacing. The wine suggestions were incredible. We liked the red blend so much that we later bought two bottles to take with us. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Was very disappointed with the bone-in ribeye. Tough, chewey and not a prime piece of beef. Caesar salad was good, the fries were good but not why I came to the restaurant. My wife's New York was good. Martinis were excellent. Waiter apologized and gave us a dessert compliments of the house. I don't see a reason to come back.............
