Dawson's - Hyatt Regency Sacramento Ratings and Reviews
We were promptly greeted and escorted to our table, which I requested a private booth in the reservation which was accommodated. Our table was served by a team of 4 who never let our table go without any services. Or main server Rick was knowledgeable, friendly and most importantly respectful. We got a round of cocktails that were made to perfection, the deviled egg appetizer that had robust flavor from the pepper, my date had the filet and I the Kansas New York with side of lobster Mac n cheese and Brussel sprouts. Or dining experience was flawless, and I’d highly recommend this restaurant.
The food and ambiance were nice but what made the meal truly outstanding was the service. I had called earlier in the day to ask about the day’s catch and was very pleased to hear it was halibut so I made a reservation. When we got there for dinner, they were out of the halibut which was so disappointing. I mentioned this to our wonderful server (sorry I forgot his name but an very nice, older gentleman who was clearly highly skilled at fine dining service) who mentioned it to the kitchen. They remembered my phone call and had set aside a piece of the halibut for me in case I came in! I thought that was really well done. The filet was cooked perfectly and was tender and flavorful as well. Overall, an A+ experience.
This wasn’t just dinner, it was an experience and an amazing assortment of taste and smell. Reservations were made through Open Table as I’d selected this restaurant for the Sacramento Dine Downtown which was very easy. I was greeted by your hostess, Danielle, who was very friendly. While I waited for my party to arrive the bartender, Carrie, with a very big smile and great attitude took my order for a glass of wine. We were sat when our party arrived at our 7:45pm time. We had 5 people, we were sat near the kitchen, which I wasn’t too sure about at first. However, it turned out to be the best spot in the house in my opinion. Our Party all decided to do the Dine Downtown prefix menu and wine pairing. We were told that some items unfortunately they had ran out of, but not to worry they would make it up to us! So ok!
The food was amazing but due to the character count for this review I had to take it out to applaud the staff - please see yelp or fb review.
Here’s the thing, let’s go back to the location of our table.... while dining we got to see and smell what the amazing culinary team was doing. Seeing other amazing works of art come out of the kitchen and how happy the staff was makes for an even better experience. Thank you Suji, Lauren, Connor, Simon for the amazing food and experiences.
Dakota the food runner for bringing us these amazing dishes.
Meagan and Nicole for being on top of our water and bread and being great servers assistance.
Last but not forgotten in the slightest way is Ardy, our server. He is hands down the best server I’ve come across in a very long time. He made sure everything was perfect! He cracked joke, he made suggestions, he made sure we had an experience not just dinner.
I do hope I didn’t miss anybody as the entire restaurant was just above and beyond my expectations and thank you for being a pleasurable and memorable experience. You’ve made 5 people’s nights and rest of our lives that much greater.
We eat at Dawsons on occasion. Most of the time everything is up to "steakhouse standards"...rich tastes..cooked right. Attentive service.. handling the pre-theatre Saturday rush. This trip was not up to par.
The waiter was nice, but talked too fast. He misrepresented the special, explaining that the peppers described were mild. The peppers were a sauce. But that wasn't the bad part. The fish was dry and overcooked. A chewy mess. We didn't send it back because the meal had already been delayed by an error in delivering our salads. In fact, a server brought two entrees to our table of four, meant for another table, while we were waiting for our salads.
They need to update the menu on their website. We had invited friends from out of town. The restaurant listed a pasta dish online that was no longer on the menu. We asked about the non-meat options.. there was only one, and the waiter offered that the entree was terrible, that nobody liked it.
My steak was terrific. The prime rib and side dishes were good.
It was odd that the ladies were offered ice for the water, but not the men.. just weird like things like that happened that night.
It is a great pre-show option. And it's mature enough that this shouldn't happen.
Our waiter was not good - took a long time to come to our table. His assistant had come and was very nice. After one of us ordered a pork chop with a vegetable side, as he was leaving he told us that the pork chop would take a long time and since we were going to a play, he recommended that we might want to order something else, which we did, but he didn’t point out that new order came with a vegetable, so we should have cancelled the extra vegetable. He only came to our table once while we were eating, we had to wave him down to ask for salt and pepper, never offered dessert or coffee and we had to wave him down for our check. The restaurant was not busy. Very disappointing and expensive. Hadnt been there for awhile, will hesitate going again.
Went here for a business dinner. The waiter was amazing and the chef's sampler was to die for. I had the Ca Sea Bass and have literally never tasted something that delicious in my life. Truly a great experience and great meal. If I had to complain, the meals were a bit expensive, but I am cheap person so don't mind that comment!
GREAT steakhouse serving ultra-high quality and locally sourced beef (from northern california) in elegant stylish digs. Sincere and excellent service. We ordered the filet mignon and the Kansas City cut; both exceptional. The porterhouse and ribeye also looked great. Very nice winelist. Tip: for sure order the lobster mac 'n cheese as one of your sides. One caveat: expensive! (but all steakhouses are).
Charming and elegant--a perfect "celebration" venue. This is a place for grown up's to enjoy a well prepared and perfectly served meal. We celebrated birthdays before attending a performance at the Community Center and it was the beginning of a delight;fun evening. Unfortunately, we lingered too long over our wine so had to rush to make the curtain. But our server was understanding and moved the bill paying process along rapidly. Next time we will allow more time to enjoy the food, beautiful setting and excellent service.
Service was terrible. Was out for my birthday which I had indicated in reservations, waiter didn’t ask or acknowledge. Left sitting there with no drinks for 15 to 20 minutes then came and took our order all at once and we still did not get our drinks Until after our appetizer was eaten. Granted, he had a large party of 8-10 people but otherwise restaurant was relatively quiet as it was a Monday night. Food was good but overall experience for the price not so much. The girl who brought the water and bread was good, however the waiter was not at all.
We took my brother and sister-in-law here for their anniversary dinner. We were given a very comfortable and spacious booth. They serve a delicious olive tamponade and cracker bread when you first sit down. They were very generous and gave us another helping when they saw how we enjoyed it. The food came out hot and perfectly cooked. We had a leisurely dinner, and we stayed and talked over coffee and desert, never feeling rushed to leave, with no hints or nervous looks. Everyone was friendly and gracious. We love this restaurant for its beautiful ambience, the outstanding food, and the kindness and courteousness of the staff. We all had a wonderfully memorable evening. Thank you Dawson’s.
First time visit, beyond all expectations! Food was simply fantastic, along with a great wine list, and everybody was friendly. From the hostess to bar tender to our server Chris, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
You will pay more than some places, but you will feel it was all worth every penny by the time you are finished!
What a jewel this place is! Can't wait to go back.
I thought I had a reservation and must have made a mistake and not "confirmed" on the open table website. The hostess was not accommodating at all. I was with clients so I looked on open table and asked her to just wait list us because I saw a reservation was open at 8:15. She said she had NO availability the rest of the night. So, I made the reservation via Open Table.
When we went back she had waitlisted people behind us! In the end we were seated at 8:15, the waiter was wonderful and the food was great.
I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Very nice. Employees were smiling and nice too. For a steakhouse serving prime meat, it was disappointing that the steaks were not cooked as requested. Two of the four steaks came out overdone. Medium came out well done and the blue rare came out medium. It was fixed quickly. We liked the side dishes. However, for the price, I expected better food. I am a goodie and have high standards though.
Dawson's is the epitome of a top ranked steak house. Ambiance very energetic but nice sort of like a really good restaurant in San Fransisco. If your at a convention at the Hyatt and are getting your expenses reimbursed, it is a really good choice. It is very expensive and the menu is all al a- cart. Between my wife and I , had a three top shelf drinks and a glass a 91pts wine. , That totaled close to $50. Total bill with tip around $160 with tip. Therefore, recommend this as a special event type of restaurant. Anniversary, birthday, whatever.
