The waiter was the best we have ever had
Our dining experience began with a complimentary olive tapenade that set the tone for the deliciousness yet to come. It was the best I've ever had. The chef had also prepared a delicious bruschetta (also complimentary). Knowing we were interested in the prime rib steak our waiter provided a tasting of a wine that he recommended for our steaks. The wines are $70 and up, so tasting a wine knowing your purchase will be the ultimate compliment to your meal is such a great perk. We weren't sure which sauce we would like to enhance our steak so our waiter brought us two sauces on the side that we had been considering. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and high quality...worth the $40+ dollars. (I highly recommend the red wine reduction...wow!)The service was impeccable throughout the evening...including the waitstaff that assisted the waiter. We were presented with a dessert menu, however like many meals we were completely full (I took half of my prime rib home for a second meal). I told the waiter that if there would have been some ice cream offered...I would have indulged because there's always room for Ice cream. So the next thing I know there's complimentary ice cream for me... and my husband. I had planned that the cost of our meals would most likely fall around $300 for the two of us and I was spot on (including a generous tip). My husband and I made a pact to return at least once a year because our entire experience was outstanding. I cannot recall ever getting such high quality food and service like this anywhere else. There are other restaurants in Sacramento with excellent food and service, however Dawson's went above and beyond. And finally, the Maitre d'hotel made sure to check every table to assure everyone was completely satisfied. This is truly the place to go for a special occasion or even if you just want to be pampered for an evening...because you know you deserve it and you are guaranteed to have an outstanding experience.
The service of the waiter was subpar at best. He was very dry and distant . He also brought me the wrong enhancer. I ordered Jumbo Scallops and instead received Jumbo Shrimp. Even the manager told him to get the order right. If it wasn’t for the outstanding service of the manager, we would’ve had been satisfied eating elsewhere.
They don’t know how to properly cook steak, which is odd for a steakhouse. They cooked medium well at rare and medium to inedible rare.
Celebrated Valentine’s Day
Food was very good; had rib eye and the ice lettuce salad was very unique and tasty, fresh
Decor showed good lighting nad nice romantic decor
Good to see the teamwork, the Maitre d also helped w. Clearing the tables etc..
Downtown Sacramento location, can have pre-show dinner
Dawson’s was probably one of the best dining experiences I’ve had! Our server Artie is the epitome of class and a superb server. The recommendations he made for us did not disappoint and the food was amazing! We were in town for a show and I promise the next time I travel to Sacramento I will certainly return to Dawson’s!
Food was uneven. Oyster were pre-seasoned (strange) and crab cakes ordinary. One steak, grass fed tenderloin, was excellent but other, requested Med-well was tough. Great wine selection and very attentive service. Ambiance is basic - looks like an old steakhouse.
The food was excellent and we were very well taken care of by Jenn.
We always enjoy sitting in Artie’s section. He makes the experience exceptional.
Great food and service
Service was good, not great. Wish I knew about the soufflés (for dessert) so I could have ordered in advance, not at the time my meal was over.
The quality of food was good enough, service and ambiance was extremely lacking. For the price there is much better to be had elsewhere.
I took my grandson to dinner at the last minute. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal.
Both the service and the cuisine were impeccable. Wait staff was personable, informative and overall pleasant to interact with.
Food was ok. Seabass from dine downtown was bland. Portions were small.
The food was great but I feel that the service was rushed.
Decided to dine at Dawson for dinner. The food lacked flavor in my opinion. The service however was exceptional.
Service was superb. Food was delicious. Came in for dine downtown. Entree portions could have been bigger. Desserts were a little too sweet. The pavlova was pure sugar. No moscato by the glass though. Would probably come here for a special occasion next time.
Absolutely delicious! Went for the dine downtown event and was not disappointed! The pork belly and the steak was to die for. Amazing experience and will be back again.
The food was excellent -- a wide variety of local items.
The locally-sourced Onion Soup was amazing...
The local filet was so tender, you could cut it with a knife.
The lobster mac-and-cheese was just icing on the cake after all that...
Definitely would recommend, particularly for a nice business dinner.
My husband and I went for Dine Downtown and had a memorable experience. We were greeted by Monique and served by Lex. Both wonderful women that always ensured we were taken care of. Amazing food by the Chef and a great experience at this restaurant.
Our foursome had a Dine Downtown specials. We also had the wine pairings. We all enjoyed the dinner and wines. What a treat!
Great food for the most part. Really liked the pork belly and the skirt steak - fish was not quite as flavorful. Desserts were excellent.
We came here for the Dine Downtown menu and loved everything. We ordered the Deviled Eggs off the DD menu but the server forgot them (we were too full anyway.) She made up by taking 10% off the bill without being asked! Great food, great service. Steak and striped bass cooked to perfection.
The meals were excellent and the service was even better. All of the staff were very attentive to our every need from making sure we understood market pricing to clearing the table after each course to reading our minds on desserts.
Thanks to everyone at Dawsons for making this a memorable evening with my future in-laws and a special thanks to our waiter Chris for his outstanding service!
The food was excellent and our waiter, Arby, was most attentive without being intrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Dawson's.
We enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent.
Great food selection and generous portions. We'll be back for another date night. 😎
Thanks for the complimentary wine for the check-in.
The bread/butter/tapenade made me smile. Did I need to eat the whole basket of bread? Yes! I'll get in some extra pushups later.
Vero water was lovely. It made me want to stay hydrated.
The tonic water was exceptional. I skipped the gin.
I could have used a butter knife for the fillet. The taste was just as good as the buttery texture.
The brussel slaw brought a tear to my eye. Is that crispy bacon? Am I in heaven?
Dessert: carrot cake. Carrot cake is my weakness and I didn't want to leave a horrible review because of a subpar carrot cake. No problem here. The cake was soft and moist and the carrot topping added an unexpectedly pleasant crunch. The icing was just the right amount of sweet. I approve!
Let's talk about the service. Rick and Megan were amazing. Even though I was dining alone, I never felt lonely.
Dawson's earned all 5 stars of this review!
The service at this restaurant was outstanding. The ambiance is welcoming and pleasant. The food overall is very good. I was disappointed in the lobster bisque soup. I was not quality and was very bland and weak in taste, almost watery. The onion soup was a bit bland. The entrees of lamb and steak were excellent. The dessert menu needs to add sorbet.
The waiter we had was absolutely amazing telling us about his experience of life as me and my girlfriend went there for our two year anniversary. The food was delicious and I would love to go there another time.
Our second time there and for a special occasion (birthday). Food quality was excellent! Service even better! Good location, great old world feel. We will be back.
Food was very good, service was fair. Ambiance was good for a busy night. We asked for bread, for our soup and salad, and were told they don't normally serve it, but that our waiter would "go look for some"... we got some bread, but it really started the experience off on the wrong foot.
Polished staff, excellent bar, food prepared exactly as requested. Very comfortable relaxing atmosphere. No problem sharing entree; superb filet and lovely sweet lobster tail. Yum yum.
The food was very salted and blend
The tables were so close to each other (it was like i was dining with all my neighbors) it was very uncomfortable and awkward
The waiter did not know how to explain the food witch was blend and salted
The wild mushrooms were very salted and oily
The fish was overcooked and dry
The seafood was in a very bland sauce (the waiter did not explain very well what was the seafood medley) and it was very messy because i had to crack the crab legs
Overall we did not have a good experience
We eat at Dawsons before every Sacramento Broadway Series show and look forward to our night out. The service is impeccable, the food sensational (gluten free is great), the seating is such you can have four at a table and talk and hear one another. This is simply a fantastic restaurant for our family.
We ordered the Filet and it was cooked to perfection. It melted in your mouth. The loaded potato was huge and delicious.
The waiter was very Attentive.
A truly wonderful experience, food great as was the wine and service
My prime rib was very underseasoned. I asked for medium rare. The center of my cut was so under-cooked, I didn't finish it.
The dessert was good.
Good service and gourmet food. My husband and I enjoyed an outstanding meal including cocktails, wines and food. Wonderful chocolate souffle for dessert. We high recommend this restaurant.
