Lobster soup although tasting good came out Luke warm, sent back and next time very hot as it should be. Steaks came out on and again Luke warm, just decided to eat as they were.
Steaks could have been prepared better. Sauces were mediocre...
Overall the food was not impressive and the side dishes disappointing as was the desert.
Not what we expected. Food was average, the Dawson’s salad was the best!, this is the only reasin for the two stars! I chose to split a dish with my mom- in most high class restaurants they would bring a dish split on two plates. Well, didn’t happen here: they placed the plate with ravioli in front of me while my mom had nothing! I had to ask for an extra plate so i could share the ravioli with her! Ravioli were ok- ish.
We ordered the chocolate soufle hoping to make up for the previous disapointments! Big mistake: the soufle was some sort of brownie, definitely not a soufle!
Unlikely to come back veery soon
I’m from Ohio and often do business in Sacramento. Dawson’s is always a go to for my team and me. Last night, I had the same expectations of their exceptional service. I ordered a bottle of wine recommenced by my server. As always, she had me try the bottle upon opening. I knew something wasn’t right with it from the beginning and I told her that. She basically disregarded what I said and told me that it would grow on me. She also alluded to the fact that I should have chosen a more expensive bottle of wine. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable when it comes to wine. I am in several wine clubs too and do tastings on a monthly basis. My point here is that the wine tasted like vinegar and I told her a few times that I was not satisfied. She took the bottle back to have someone check it and brought it back and said it was fine. If I was not happy with the wine from the second she opened the bottle wouldn’t you think she would have done something about it??Instead, I left behind a 60 dollar bottle of wine with good reason. I was not happy about this and unfortunately because of this I will not be returning to Dawson’s. I was blown away with how they (she) handled the situation. I would have expected far more from this place. I’m not a happy camper about this at all.
We thoroughly enjoyed dinner, we were not happy when our server suggested another wine than the one we chose for a couple of dollars more and found out when we received our check that it was 20.00 more.
She took 10% off, but still felt deceived
Had a great birthday celebration! Food and service were great!
Food was overall good but the Caesar salad was drowning in dressing. Don't ask for a menu substitution though because the "kitchen" doesn't do substitutions! What ever happened to "give the customer what she wants?" The very attentive service made up for the "kitchen's" shortcoming.
Pre-theater dinner was excellent. Our very knowledgeable waiter Arte made sure we had plenty of time for the play, but dinner was never rushed. My husband’s steak as well as my prime rib was an ample cut, tender and served with delicious sauces that enhanced the meats. The Brussels sprouts were cooked but still firm and so tasty with a honey, soy marinade and tender thick bacon pieces. Many wines by the glass to accompany dinner. Dessert of cheesecake with cranberries was heavenly. I highly recommend Dawson’s.
Excellent service & ambiance. Enjoyed delicious appetizers and salads prior to attending a play. A definite return visit!
Beautiful high end secret I have never come across. Thanks to open table I was able to experience something so wonderful and new.
My boyfriend and I went for my birthday, because my request was to have a chocolate soufflé. It was a great experience, I’m happy we got to try Dawson’s. Thank you for the great service.
Great restaurant that has good food and great service. We ALWAYS go to Dawson's before we see an event at the community center. It makes for a memorable night out.
Service is very smooth and professional. As a single diner, I wasn’t rushed or made to feel uncomfortable. The food is always delicious here and the cocktail and wine selection is excellent.
The food is second to none. It is like an old speak-easy. The lamb was the BEST I have ever had. I really enjoyed it and would recommend to everyone.
Food was good service was good!Only steakhouse available for last minute reservations the day before.Overall I would recommend.
A wonderful dining experience...1st class treatment...shared the 18oz Tbone...delicious made perfect medium rare
Also had the loaded baked potato.
Dessert- creme brûlée was scrumptious.
Very happy with my dinner and overall experience.
A local recommended this place as the best steakhouse in town and it did not let us down. Will definitely return next time I’m in Sacramento.
I love Dawson's. Unfortunately the service was slow this time. We booked plenty early to enjoy a leisurely dinner before an event. We were able to make the event but missed dessert.
Wonderful service, and great selection on the menu
Always a favorite! The food, ambience and service is always exceptional! Love Artie and team of servers, the bartenders are always pouring the perfect mix. Great beef and seafood in Dawson’s, always fresh and cooked to perfection!
Food was delicious! Had a bottle of red wine TWOsquare, AMAZING!
Although Andrew was trying I felt service was just a bit off, for example, a little too long to take our order, also the assumption was made that the oysters would b a meal and they were only meant to b an appetizer, Andrew forgot about my soda, the ribeye was good but not spectacular, the cook on the ribeye was perfect, I don’t know if your baked poucomes with chives but I didn’t notice any. What happened to the mouse bouche, we have had this in the past and we noticed this was not forthcoming.
Andrew was nice and he endeavored to do what he could. No doubt he is a great server
My steak was undercooked in the middle. They forgot we were celebrating a birthday, and I put it in my reservation. We couldn’t get a booth, even though I requested one, and they were empty. My creamed spinach was not hot, and the cream was watery.
The whipped potatoes were lukewarm.
Not sure if our server was having a bad day. Too many customers or what was going on... we did not get service for a while and then when he came he was brisk and rude. One of our drinks was constantly water instead of an actual drink. Food was mediocre and frankly the steak looked like it was not one piece of meat rather sad.
This will not be a repeat experience for me.
Food was exceptional as well as 0ur amazing server! She went above and beyond!
Amazing Food, Great Drinks, with a little extra kick, always appreciated. Great Atmosphere for a Special Date Night!!!
Your choices were varied enough for a diverse crowd. Your creme brulee dessert was outstanding. Wait staff was not overly attentive and the food came out rather quickly.
Beet salad came with with lots of arugula. We said no greens are mentioned on menu. When questioned the waitress was emphatic that it was mentioned. We did not go further but did not eat salad though checking menu when we got home showed NO greens. Disappointing.
We avail ourselves for excellent food, service, and validated parking. It is very convenient to have a leisurely dinner, then walk to the Community Center next door to attend a concert.
The restaurant was crowded and noisy, but that's how it is in a hotel across the street from the state capitol. I was disappointed with the pricing, which was listed as only two $$ but was definitely comparable to Morton's, which was listed with 4 $$$$. My wife and I had the special (Chilean sea bass) and the ribeye (they had "just run out" of the prime rib (really? At 7:30 on a Friday night?) And no alcohol, no dessert, but our meal was $128. Way too high. The staff were excellent, the food was very high quality, it was just the price that was completely out of proportion.
Jenn, our server, was gracious and made the whole meal a delight.
The Cioppino was amazing. The waitstaff always makes one feel special.
The waiter was the best we have ever had
Our dining experience began with a complimentary olive tapenade that set the tone for the deliciousness yet to come. It was the best I've ever had. The chef had also prepared a delicious bruschetta (also complimentary). Knowing we were interested in the prime rib steak our waiter provided a tasting of a wine that he recommended for our steaks. The wines are $70 and up, so tasting a wine knowing your purchase will be the ultimate compliment to your meal is such a great perk. We weren't sure which sauce we would like to enhance our steak so our waiter brought us two sauces on the side that we had been considering. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and high quality...worth the $40+ dollars. (I highly recommend the red wine reduction...wow!)The service was impeccable throughout the evening...including the waitstaff that assisted the waiter. We were presented with a dessert menu, however like many meals we were completely full (I took half of my prime rib home for a second meal). I told the waiter that if there would have been some ice cream offered...I would have indulged because there's always room for Ice cream. So the next thing I know there's complimentary ice cream for me... and my husband. I had planned that the cost of our meals would most likely fall around $300 for the two of us and I was spot on (including a generous tip). My husband and I made a pact to return at least once a year because our entire experience was outstanding. I cannot recall ever getting such high quality food and service like this anywhere else. There are other restaurants in Sacramento with excellent food and service, however Dawson's went above and beyond. And finally, the Maitre d'hotel made sure to check every table to assure everyone was completely satisfied. This is truly the place to go for a special occasion or even if you just want to be pampered for an evening...because you know you deserve it and you are guaranteed to have an outstanding experience.
The service of the waiter was subpar at best. He was very dry and distant . He also brought me the wrong enhancer. I ordered Jumbo Scallops and instead received Jumbo Shrimp. Even the manager told him to get the order right. If it wasn’t for the outstanding service of the manager, we would’ve had been satisfied eating elsewhere.
They don’t know how to properly cook steak, which is odd for a steakhouse. They cooked medium well at rare and medium to inedible rare.
Celebrated Valentine’s Day
Food was very good; had rib eye and the ice lettuce salad was very unique and tasty, fresh
Decor showed good lighting nad nice romantic decor
Good to see the teamwork, the Maitre d also helped w. Clearing the tables etc..
Downtown Sacramento location, can have pre-show dinner
Dawson’s was probably one of the best dining experiences I’ve had! Our server Artie is the epitome of class and a superb server. The recommendations he made for us did not disappoint and the food was amazing! We were in town for a show and I promise the next time I travel to Sacramento I will certainly return to Dawson’s!
Food was uneven. Oyster were pre-seasoned (strange) and crab cakes ordinary. One steak, grass fed tenderloin, was excellent but other, requested Med-well was tough. Great wine selection and very attentive service. Ambiance is basic - looks like an old steakhouse.
