Dawat is a fine north Indian restaurant that also serves a couple of south Indian dishes as well. Located in Midtown East, Dawat is one of Manhattan’s finest Indian restaurants
that serves an eclectic array of interesting dishes.

Dawat Ratings and Reviews
We were there to celebrate Diwali and went for the good food which did not disappoint. However, the servers were very efficient but not at all friendly or did not appear happy. Perhaps it was because they were working on a holiday but we were surprised at the tone set by the head server, manager and others who were not rude but just not so pleased to have us as guests. The table right next to the tandoor oven where we were seated gets extremely warm, so perhaps, that is also something that added to the discomfort of dining there. Overall, the food made up for everything and that is really why we were there plus we had good company with our family.
Dawat continues to delight with flavorful Indian cuisine and impeccable service. It is located on E. 58th in a stylish neighborhood near the south end of Central Park. The menu offers many different dishes but allow the staff to recommend something different if you are adventurous.
Every dish we enjoyed last evening was excellent. We don't eat very much but the chicken, naan, papadam and grilled veggies were just lovely. We rate Dawat as highly as any other Indian in the city and we've been to quite a few. As for wine, the Beckman Syrah represents a very good value if you haven't tried it.
I would not recommend this restaurant. The food is not made fresh and it is one those typical Indian restaurant who use pre made sauces from a can.
Please don't goto this restaurant...... New York is a great place for foodies and disarm t waste a dinner or lunch here.
Dawat used to be one of our favorite Indian restaurants but I think it has gone downhill. Food was uninteresting and lacked complexity. Tandoori Chicken was dry and shriveled as if it had been made earlier in the day and the sauces on the dishes we ordered were ordinary ad bland.
I have eaten at Dawat a number of times over the years. It seemed to me that the food was more inconsistent this time around. Some things were very good. One dish was didappointing. The biggest problem was that the air conditioning was not working properly. It was uncomfortably hot.
my review may be colored by the extremely good service I got. I'm in a wheelchair and have some special needs which they recognized immediately and attended to without me saying anything. I've eaten here before and the lamb chops are just unbelievably good coded in a wonderful selection of spices and cooked in the tandoor oven. My shrimp dish was loaded with shrimp with the sauce I've had nowhere else. They mark on the menu which items are chef Jeffries originals and this was one of them. We shall return
I was looking for something different for a girls' night dinner that could accommodate my allergies as well as having vegan options for my friend. The staff was attentive and engaging. They made wonderful suggestions when trying to decide between the all the intriguing options on the menu. The food was fabulous. While they do have the staples of most north Indian cuisine, look for menu items marked as house specials. Also if you are taking small children, or not-so-small children, ask for a seat in the back where you can watch the chef work with the Tandoor Ovens.
We are French and English and were visiting NY and booked at this restaurant because of the very review and the location near our hotel.
We absolutely loved it. The food was amazing, the service was outstanding and the decoration really nice (spacious table and very quiet).
We will remember this meal for a long time and hope to have a chance to get back one day.
Many thanks to the chef and all the team for this memorable dinner.
