that serves an eclectic array of interesting dishes.
We had a wonderful Indian dinner!
Excellent food and professional service. Certainly a great meal.
Good Indian food. The special dinner gives a good variety and is a huge portion.
Dawat is in transition. The wait staff is all new and the bar was closed with no liquor license yet. Flowers on the table were dead. The food was the same as always and the menu was the same as it has been for years, which is good. So it is not as if it is a brand new restaurant, just a new staff who need to work out some kinks. Hopefully it soon will be back to the 5-star status we were used to over the years.
Possibly the best Indian food I have tasted from all around the world. So tasty, service was excellent and very attentive. Not the cheapest menu (going for a curry in the UK is often looked at as a cheaper option) but we were looking for good food and nice restaurant which is exactly what we got - the lamb chops were to die for.
I booked this place based on the online rating. We walked in the place, sat down for 20-25 mins ... they guy comes to take order for food ... we were like no one has come to the table for a drink order ... he dropped out of the sky and said okay .. I will take the drink order then... we ordered this non veg platter with was $34 and came with a dal that had no salt or taste and a naan or two and a tiny portion of meat. Nothing we ordered was good ... I would not waste my money at this restaurant again ... the don’t even deserve one star. Horrible experience overall
Food was very bland, lacked flavour, all four dishes were different but tasted similar.
Service was horrendous. Slow except when removing plates with food still upon them. Shabby, too many diners seated in one area, will never return.
Excellent food. Good price.
As usual we had a great time, delicious food, very good service, and a very nice atmosphere. The lamb chops were outstanding as well as the mushroom naan and the spicy corn. Try the okra, one of the best that I have had!
The quality of food is not what it used to be and selection is smaller. Room looks very tired and staff lacks enthusiasm. Just a shadow of what it was.
Comically poor service. I started out angry, but then it was literally funny. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. It was the longest 1-course meal of my life.
i dinned there many years ago. the food is still very good. the place could use a little maintenance to keep as nice looking is it once was.
The food was great
Excellent food served by friendly attentive staff
We did the chef's tasting menu and it was wonderful
Best Indian food in New York!
We enjoy the food and professional, friendly service.
Dawat has gone downhill. The decor is very dingy and the restaurant is quite dated and tired. Menu is straight from the 1980s and the whole establishment is very worn down — needs a new coat of paint; someone needs to upgrade the shabby looking ceiling vents and install new lights; and give the place a refresh. Food is decent value for money but we won’t be coming back.
Also - the place needs massively better ventilation. The days when you go into an Indian restaurant and are hit with the smell of Indian food, and then leave with your clothes and hair smelling of Indian food, should be over
Beat Indian food
Wonderful lunch specials - plenty of food for the price. Will return!
Very good food and friendly service. I've had better Naan bread but overall the food was very good.
Excellent food and service!
Dawat is one of our "go-to" restaurants on the East Side. At Dawat we can have delicious food and be in an ambience conducive to conversation. The staff is always friendly, attentive and knowledgeable regarding our choices. Of course, we will go back again and yet again.
Best Indian restaurant in NYC, lovely service as well.
Too hot. Ac didn’t seem to be working. Food seemed a little more bland than usual. Maybe it was just the heat.
The food was delicious...the best Indian food that we have had..The service was excellent..our every request was granted with pleasure (more sauces). We have dined there whenever our family visits from
the West Coast and Dawat is on their bucket list.
Great food
Been going for years
BUT the bus man needs to back off. Felt like he was stalking us. As soon as we finished our last bite with each course it was like he was preying on us.
Hurried up so we could leave.
Lovely raan, speciality lamb dish. Expert service, upscale ambiance.
Dawat has always been great. Good food and good service.
Love this place
Used to love this place and have eaten here many times - requested a table n the front room in my reservation, yet despite the request and an empty front we wound up in the back room with a server who spoke at a whisper, couldn’t manage a smile and then were summarily dumped and abandoned, waiting forever to pay out. Worst of all, my beloved Tandoori Prawns were no longer on the menu - what used to be served tableside in a hot skillet now just comes lukewarm n a fixed plate. Very disappointed.
One of the better Indian restaurants I have ever eaten at - the food is delicious, served at the preferred level of "heat" and prepared within a reasonable time of putting in the order.
I look forward to my next visit.
We thought that Dawat had seen a bit of decline in quality over the past five years.
The cut of lamb for my curry was coarse and stringy.
The maitre de was fine; the waiter a bit odd.
Dr. Lester
It was great as usual! I love Dawat! Very good food, great wine and excellent service!
Food uneven. The smoked eggplant and spicy shrimp were great. Other stuff like potato cake and okra appetizer not so.
Service was bad. Forgot my drink, bill was incorrect. All forgivable but we felt like no one was paying attention to us most of the time. Not busy at the time so no excuse.
Better Indian places to go to.
It is always good, with very nice service and honest food.
Seafood was regular, fish too soft no consistently ...
Rice, Bread(s) & Eggplant allways very good ...
This was the best Indian food I’ve had in a long time. Can’t wait to return.
Dawat is a beautiful place. When we want to remember the subtlety and courtesy of India, we go to Dawat for dinner. it is a simple, refined environment, fantastic, creative food with many new things each time, along with Madjur Jaffrey's unique regular items.
