Met some friends for dinner and was the first to arrive. Staff seated me quickly, made sure to let me know how my friend in a wheelchair should get in and handed me a wine list. As my friends arrived they were quickly seated without needing to flag them over.
Terrible server. When I asked about wine for the pork belly entree, he just said "white wine with white meat" .and when my husband asked about a wine for his crab risotto he said "any white will be good. " NOT the help you want from a supposedly higher end restaurant. He clearly knew nothing about wine.
Enjoyed a lovely evening at Davis Street. Beet salad was large and very good. The risotto was delicious. Very filling. Had read reviews about how loud the restaurant is and would have to concur, but it is a tavern with a bar and televisions close by, so I think that is to be expected in a way. The high ceilings probably add to the noise factor, but that interior provided a very cool vibe. We will return!
We dined at DST on Valentine's Day. It was our first visit and we were NOT disappointed. It was a Sunday evening and apparently they are not normally open on Sunday. So this was the reason for their "special" holiday dinner menu. It was a very small and limited menu but the choices were nice a fish, poultry, beef and one other entree item. (?). They had three appetizer choices and one dessert trio. We started our evening with a cocktail but their whisky options were limited, but the lemon drop....yummy. We ordered the crab bisque to share (it was amazing) and the presentation original. They place a portion cup of crab in the middle of the bowl and then pour the cream bisque around it, this done at table side; the waiter said its on their regular menu daily. We both ordered the halibut with a beet purée and Bok Choy. It too was absolutely delicious but honestly we both wished their was a bit more on the plate. The portion was very small and the beet purée was more of a smear with a bite of Bok Choy. This did however leave room for us to enjoy dessert....maybe that was their plan. The dessert was a shared plate by us. A small custard cup of Creme brûlée, half a slice of bread pudding with a dallop of ice cream and 2 chocolate truffles. The plate was beautiful and delicious as well. The ambience is very pleasing with low lightening and nicely placed tables with piano music piped in. I would say more of a hip Tavern. Our wait staff was very attentive and friendly. We wouldn't eat here nightly as the entrée are in the mid $25.00 range but it's a nice date night choice. We plan to go back and try the daily menu options.
We were super disappointed that they changed their menu for Valentine's Day and only offered a couple choices for dinner. We ended up just grabbing a drink because nothing on the menu looked appetizing unfortunately. The normal menu looked so good online. We will be back another time.
Took my mom to dinner there because she wants to try new Portland resaturants. I had the NY York and Caesar Salad and she had the pan seared halibut. The steak was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes were excellent. My moms halibut was slightly under seasoned, but overall it was a great meal. Will definitely be coming back, but bringing my wife next time.
Seated quickly, staff friendly and helpful, not too busy but looks like happy hours could be. This is a wonderfully restored old heavy timber building between China town and the heart of the Pearl.... seems overlooked by some headed for the "hot-spots". The food was quite good although the menu is somewhat limited. Prices were reasonable. We would definitely go there again.
I regularly bring guests to DST for lunch. The service and food are consistently excellent! The setting is comfortable and is quiet enough to carry on a conversation. The menu is diverse and I have yet to order anything that I have not enjoyed. In particular I'd point you to the steak frites, fish tacos or chopped salad--all delicious. (The crab bisque soup, and mac and cheese are awesome also!) The staff is attentive but perfectly so and never intrusive. Come down to Old Town and try DST--you won't be disappointed!
Next time I go I will ask for a booth or a quieter table. We were seated in the bar area so it was pretty noisy. I had made a reservation but was not asked by the host where I would like to sit. I was compliant and sat in the bar area. But later I realized they had a quieter area in another room. The chef was willing to change the menu up a little for me. The food was very good. I had clams in a white wine broth served with h a delicious bread for dipping in the broth.
Our party of 6 enjoyed a post holiday dinner at at this great find. The menu is somewhat limited, but all the dishes we ordered were outstanding. Great cocktails, oysters on the half shell, and the charcuterie were standouts.
We arrived about 10-15 minutes ahead of our reservation time and were seated, but we didn't receive any type of service until our actual reservation time. We would have all enjoyed a cocktail while looking through the menu during that time. The other issue we had, was that we were seated between 2 very large parties, making it extremely difficult to have much conversation at our table.
I would absolutely return, as we all enjoyed the food and drinks, but would make sure that our seating arrangement was more acceptable.
This was my first visit to the Tavern and I was disappointed. The reviews I read had me invite out of town guest to join us. The place is lovely but it went downhill from there. The wait for our food seemed long. My risotto was cold, 2 of the others said their food was just okay, 1 really enjoyed his. After having my friends have two spectacular meals at Andina and Little Bird...a low-key Friday night at a tavern seemed like a nice idea change of pace. It was not what I hoped.
This was our third time at the Davis Street Tavern. It's a great place. Good food, good service. The Mac and Cheese is a highlight. A very welcoming environment. DST has become one of our favorite places in PDX and is a must visit for Roseland and Star Theatre pre-show drinks.
Came here with my wife on a weekday night for dinner.
It's a nice little restaurant with a cool bar. We shared the clams and the steak. Everything was tasty and well prepared. The only small complaint is that the steak as a bit too charred on the outside, for my wife's taste, but other than that, it was tender and juicy (and I have no problem with a bit of burnt flavor).
Service was very good.
We had the bread pudding with caramel ice cream for dessert. Yummy.
We had a great meal at the Davis Street Tavern tonight. The scallops were terrific. The beard pudding dessert with salted caramel gelato was good to the last bite. I also had a wonderful cocktail called a Amour Fou which featured vodka, lemon, absinth wash and egg white. It was light and so flavorful. The ambiance was terrific, too. And what made it all turn out so well was the excellent service from Aaryn. She made recommendations on all our selections and her recommendations were perfect!
Some friends and I visited for dinner prior to a gig at the Roseland Theatre down the road. I had the scallop main which was so mean in size it looked like a starter, they were delicious there was just not enough. The others in our party ordered the New York strip, which was not a strip at all but more a hunk of meat so thick it could not possibly cook through in a reasonable time so our 'medium' steak had to be returned for further cooking. At $33 a portion this is quite simply unacceptable. I would go back for lunch and for drinks because its a nice place with good proximity to Roseland but not again for dinner!! There is a good choice of wine by the glass. We didn't have dessert so I have nothing to say about that.
We were eagerly looking forward to Davis' Fall Scallops, but this year the preparation/ quality and/or freshness was not the same as the past two years. And 3 Scallops cannot possibly be considered "a meal." If they simply served a little bread, pasta or potato this could not possibly impact the profit margin for Davis and would greatly enhance the customer's enjoyment of the meal. Our "meal" consisted of the 3 (inferior) Scallops, literally only a tablespoon of creamed corn, 2 pea pods and a "smudge" of blueberry décor- not enough to get one's fork around. The service was excellent and the cocktails were very good, but the food... oh dear, how sad !
