About Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse - Manhattan
THE IDEA & HISTORY
In 1985, at the young and ambitious age of 24, Steve DiFillippo purchased a locally-owned family restaurant called Davio’s on Newbury Street in Boston’s trendy Back Bay. As Boston’s culinary tastes evolved, he transformed the location into a destination. He retooled the menu, the space, the wine list. The new Davio’s soon garnered rave reviews.
The idea behind Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse was simple, regional Italian foods with a focus on the grill.

Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse - Manhattan Ratings and Reviews
We met with my sister and niece for dinner, and even though my niece was over the age for the kids menu they accommodated her request to dine off that menu when she could not find an item on the dinner menu. The service was attentive and professional. I had the 10 oz filet and my wife had the braised short ribs - both were cooked exactly to our liking. The farrow and the mushrooms were excellent tasting slightly sweet and the asparagus firm yet not crisp. We were sadly too satisfied by our meals to enjoy dessert but overall an excellent experience.
Celebration for completing the New York City Marathon. Center cut filet was cooked to perfection. Wine was perfect compliment and affordable. The bread was wonderful! Service was well timed and friendly. Received a complimentary brownie bite from the pastry chef as well.
Our first time to this splendid restaurant. We look forward to returning. Our waiter Edison and manager Geraleen ( spelling? ) handled the overcooked and then undercooked ribeye with complete excellent customer service. Once the chef got the steak cooked properly they presented me with fresh hot side dishes we had ordered plus another glass of cabernet. Complimentary dessert was an added touch. The popovers are original at a steakhouse. Customer greeting plus directions to rest room were gracious too. Well done by all.
We had dined at Davios earlier in the week for dinner and had enjoyed the meal. We decided to try it for breakfast the day we were leaving the hotel as it was convenient and we hoped that the breakfast would be just as good as the dinner. We were unfortunately very wrong. There were only two servers working the morning we dined there, and although we had a reservation, neither seemed to know what was going on, and seemed to assume everyone who came in for breakfast that morning was part of the corporate buffet breakfast. Once we managed to explain to someone that we were not there as part of the corporate buffet breakfast, we were able to get menus. The selection was lacklustre, as we were there an hour after opening and they did not have the waffles on the menu, nor did they tell us when they gave us the menus that that particular item was not available that day. When they brought out my meal, three eggs, potatoes and toast, they didn't even bother asking if we needed anything else before disappearing. I had to flag someone down to get butter for the toast and ketchup for the potatoes. Unfortunately, the "breakfast potatoes" were bland and not remotely crispy like most other breakfast potatoes I've had, the toast seemed to be generic white bread toasted - nothing special, and bland poached eggs. They never checked on us to see how our meal was and we had to flag them down to get the bill, where they charged a mandatory 19% service charge - something that was not charged at dinner time. I suspect they offer breakfast for the sake of capitalizing on earning money at breakfast since they are part of the Club Quarters Hotel, however, if you can't do it right, don't do it at all. Stay away from their breakfast, it's an expensive mistake to make.
I wasn't expecting much from a hotel restaurant, but we weren't in the mood to wander the city after a full day of travelling. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and found the pasta authentic and delicious, and the tiramisu was light and airy. Service could have been better, as it was a little slow. Overall, we enjoyed the food.
We began with a great bottle of Malbec, recommended by our server , followed by warm popovers--appetizers, shared, were broiled octopus, the best I've ever had, and crab cake… Not the best I've ever had but at least a B+ Entree was a tagliatelle with veal, Pork, et cetera. Also quite good. The desert looked wonderful, but we just didn't have room so we each had a cappuccino. The meal was pricey – $170 for two but that was about what we expected. We asked for a quiet table but really no place in the restaurant was quiet. Still, we could hear each other without yelling.
On a business trip to NYC and was looking for a restaurant which had a varied menu. I knew I was going to order a steak but wanted to make sure there were other options for my guests. Trying to avoid the traditional “chain” steak houses, I wanted to try something different. This was a good choice. Good service, nice ambience, and in walking distance to my hotel.
It is a bit noisy as there were some larger groups but we had no problem discussing business.
We had a great time at Davio's. They left us relax at the bar until we were ready to settle at a table. There was a small spill but they were incredibly courteous and made up for it well. It was a bit loud, but we spent almost 3 hours relaxing there and thoroughly enjoyed all of our time there.
The dinner host/manager is fantastic and always remembers us. He is really a people person and walks around and checks in on all guests. We had a bad experience once five months ago and since then the restaurant has taken really good care of us and rectified the issue. We love the food (esp the bread) and great service. Keep it up!
Wine, steaks..everything was amazing!!
I was on the last two bites of my meal and the waiter accidentally knocked my water glass into it. They brought me a NEW full meal and didn't charge me. They also offered a free desert but two meals was enough hahaha!
So despite a small mistake.. they made up for it more than enough.
We usually love Davio's. This was very disappointing however. We've been to this Davio's several times, as well as to the Boston location. This was the worst visit we've had. My veal chop was so gristley and tough that it was virtually inedible and my wife's filet was so-so.
The service, which is usually first class, was very pushy as if they wanted to clear the table. It was a slow Thursday night; there we're plenty of empty tables.
There are too many great restaurants in New York for Davio's to offer this poor a presentation. I hope this was just a one-off night for an otherwise very good restaurant.
