Located at the foot of Portland’s arts district on Monument square, Portland Maine David Turin, Chef / Owner moved David’s to this historic location in 1998. The restaurant is tastefully and creatively decorated update to the “Great Fire” surviving building which housed the presses for The Portland Telegram Newspaper at the turn of the century. The open kitchen allows diners to watch the creation of meals which feature the bounty of regional resources prepared without culinary boundaries. David’s cuisine has one foot in tradition and another in the contemporary influences of many of the world’s great cuisines.

The Portland Press Herald… “This restaurant is doing amazing things and at the same time keeping prices reasonable-Four and a Half Stars!” Portland Magazine …“Truly a spectacular meal” “Best of New England 2008” – New England Travel Ma

It was Valentine's day and they were trying to turn over tables quickly, so we felt rushed as a consequence. The server tried to take our order 4 times in the first 5 minutes and then never came to check on us after the entree was served was by another server. She then offered to box up my husband's meal while he was still eating and then told us she was boxing up the dessert goodies for us to take home.
She never asked why I didn't even touch the filet mignon, she just offered to box it up.
We were seated very close to host stand where the host kept running his fingers thru his hair and beard......and then was serving food and setting tables. Also the kitchen staff and other servers kept coming to the host stand to check on the reservations still due in, very distracting with us sitting so close by.
We love the food at David's.....but it was a bad choice for a Valentine's day.

We hit Portland once or twice a year to get away for a night and usually go to David's because the food and service are always great. One thing I would like to see on their menu are more local beer options. They have 3 great craft breweries a stones throw from the restaurant (Bissell Brothers, Lone Pine & Good Fire) that would be a great addition to the menu.

David's is a reliable restaurant. While not one of the newbies on the block, I always know I can come back for a nice meal with professional service. Was there recently for a client lunch and they really appreciated the buffet, which allowed us to get in and out quickly. It had a lot of healthy options, so we didn't feel too guilty about going there.

Dinner was great but our table was in a high traffic area and I was constantly afraid of someone knocking into me. Not a very relaxing night but the halibut with celery root purée was delicious!

David's NEVER disappoints! We love sitting at one of the few high tops in the bar or at the Chef's counter if it is just the 2 of us! Really fun to watch the chef and his staff get the meals prepared at the counter. Can be a bit crowded there, but it works. Friendly staff and great food!!!

Enjoyed my lunch meal very much. Nice atmosphere, great gluten free options and very yummy food. I enjoyed having menu options that are not typically found elsewhere. I am a big coffee snob. That being said the only minor complaint I have is I did not like the taste of the coffee.

I had made a reservation for a business dinner. Unfortunately they were not able to seat us at the time we had scheduled. They offered us a $25 coupon for another visit, or we could sit at the bar. We opted to sit at the bar but it was very crowded and uncomfortable and did not promote good conversation. The food was amazing though. I would go again for a more informal meal with friends, but I don't recommend it for business clients.
