David Todd's City Tavern - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Went on a Friday night. The food was great and our waiter was great as well, always there but not over-bearing. Our table was along the front windows and provided a nice mid-January view. Noise in the dining area as not too loud which allowed for great conversation with myself and my guest.
First time dining here- we had rec'vd a recommendation from a friend.
We went before a show at MPAC- in my Open Table reservation I noted this, and they read it and confirmed we had to leave by a certain time. (Restaurant is 3 minute walk from MPAC.
Service was very good- waiters were professional, personable, and knew the menu.
Food was delicious and creative.
The 3-fruit Cobbler Dessert was awesome!
The food is pretty good here, with lunch menu more varied & interesting than many lunch spots. Sitting at a table near the sunny window was a big plus - request it, day or night. Service was pleasant but somewhat inattentive: hot water without the tea bags, we had to ask the hostess to send our server so we could place our order. Fresh tuna nicoise salad was better than most, with tuna lightly seared, hericot verts still crisp, light on the dressing. Cheeseless wild mushroom w. caramelized onion pizza w. truffle oil was delicious even though the mushroom chunks were too big to stay on the pizza. At $35 for two without wine or dessert, it's not an everyday lunch spot but it's worth a visit.
We really enjoyed our first-time experience. We had an 8:30 reservation on a Saturday evening and didn't get seated until 9 and then an item we ordered from the menu was no longer available. These were just two very minor annoyances compared to the great food and outstanding service provided at the bar and table. We'll be back....
This was our second trip and it was on New Year's Eve. The staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. We were all very happy that they chose to keep their regular menu for the holiday. Three of us had the special of the evening which was the lamb loin. Simply outstanding! The appetizers and salads were extremely creative and equally delicious, and I highly recommend the "triple cobbler" for dessert. We sat for hours and were not rushed - thoroughly enjoying our meal. Can't wait to return.
My family and I met there for a holiday dinner. My reservation was for 10. When I arrived they had put us in a private room our waiter was fantastic and the owner introduced himself and checked on us several times during the meal. The food was more gourmet than I had anticipated but they were very casual about it and food was wonderful. We had some teenagers so a few more burger choices would have been nice. Overall it was a wonderful surprise and I look forward to going back soon.
Our second trip to this great find! We had a group of 5 and were able to sit at a tble by the front windows...nice view of street scene in morristown. Food was aoutstanding. Of course it started wimth pomfrites and cheesedip....a must! Everyones food was prepared perfectly and served with nice presentation. Service was attentive without hovering. The pork mignon was amazing and served in an ample portion. The staff took great care of us. You must trt this place especially if you are attending an event atbthe mayo performing arts center
Looking at the menu enticed us for a B-day night out. Oops! You can barely think its so loud in there.. and bright. My beat salad was a giant pile of beats. Nothing else and nothing to cut all the sweetness. My wife relly wanted the Veal T-bone but HATES lentils. When she asked if she could sub rice for lentils she was told "Sorry ma'am, the chef does NOT sub anything on his dishes... he is meticulous about the flavor of his dishes and will refuse any request." WOW!!! What a stuck up chef. Which made the fact that not a SINGLE one of the 4 entre's was properly seasoned (little salt please?) very amusing. At least Gordon Ramsey would have seasoned properly seasoned things before telling me my palette is garbage.
Don't waste your time
Was going to Community Theatre and needed a place nearby....what an AMAZING dinner...we were pleased from the appetizers ....on to the main course...there speciality is Red Fish and 3 out of 4 of us got it...along with the beet appetizer salad. Can't wait to go back...it was priced right - and simply delish!!!
