very pleasant outdoor dining, good food and excellent service
Great food & service. Highly recommend
Food was tasty and light. We all had different things and they were all very good. The wine and cocktails have been great. Service was exceptional. We even got offered a complementary dessert, which has been a modern take on donuts. Be careful, because it is highly addictive
Very nice outside patio. We had a few spots of rain and were immediately offered a great covered table. Very pleasant staff. My only complaint might be that we had to ask for a glass of water a few times. Otherwise a very good experience.
Worst brunch experience ever. Really bad service and the food was below standard from any place in NYC . I’m pretty sure the orange juice was from a box which I find unacceptable for a restaurant of this price . We had to ask for everything at least twice and I ended up stirring my tea with a fork as I did not even get a teaspoon. I rarely give a bad review but this was probably our worst experience in a restaurant in Manhattan .
It was a sub par experience at best
There was nothing notable about the food
Cocktails and wine were good, french fries I ordered was so so, which is very hard to be( fried potatoes are always so good, right?) Staff were kind, location is great, and the breeze on the outdoor seating was great.
The "outdoor" Kitchen is a wonderful escape from the street below. Lamb, fluke, gazpacho, asparagus all perfectly prepared - multiple notes and textures. Typical Burke - and that's a good thing. What makes it special is the outdoor setting - canopied tables.
Food was fine. Service was horrible. It was like no one told the waiter they’d seated someone in his section. Ten minutes before anyone said hello. Hardly saw the waiter after, and while the starters came promptly the mains were quite slow. Had to flag someone down to pay at the end as it was starting to rain and I wanted to get out before it poured.
Tuna tartare was standard, if small portion size. Scallops were well cooked and seasoned. Chocolate malt cake at the end was incredibly dry, I only ate a small part of it.
Had an overall good meal. Wasn’t blown away, nor disappointed. Prefer the ambiance and menu at the Tavern62 restaurant.
Went for restaurant week. Took 40 minutes to get first round of drinks and had to flag a waiter down to put in the order. The service was nonexistent.
They removed the best item on the menu - the Monkey Bread, which is the reason we went in the first place.
Service was not so attentive. Otherwise, the food was really good. I would still go back for a meal.
The ambience and the food was really good and comforting. The wait was not long and there was enough time in between for us to rest until the next meal came out.
I had dinner and breakfast, the menu was very limited. Nothing outstanding. Over priced.
This is my second time at this restaurant and it is worth the long walk in the sun. Although I chose to sit outdoors on a warm day, the location somehow felt perfect, and not like you are in Manhattan NY. The combination of the appetizer, main and dessert of the leafy greens & endive salad, fillet of branzino and the panna cotta made a perfect lunch meal. Totally enjoyed it and will be back again and again.
Have a soft spot for Burke's works. Went here because Taverna wasn't serving Restaurant Week lunch. Very peculiar operation. Sign says main dining room closed. Go upstairs. Elevator doesn't work. Walk up and hang around almost 10 minutes till a maitre finally appears outside in the heat. Ask for men's room; it is 2 flights downstairs. This time elevator works. Service is truly lamentable, if always agreeable. We order. Ask for bread, to mop up mussels and clams and told "we're not serving bread". A member of my party, not hearing this, asks a busboy for bread. Almost 20 minutes later it arrives, long after starter finished. It was quite fine. Main roast chicken was decent if a small portion. Twenty minute wait between courses. When we get check, charged $5 for "grilled toast". Even by Burke standards, which seems to include eccentricities as part of many meals, this was an unpleasant experience. A good deal of training is in order, I'd say.
I ve been to this restaurant before and the food is always great. Love the menu and the wine list! Last time I was in the service was impeccable... this time, not good at all. Once seated I waited for my friend, when she arrived. I asked for the wine list, and nobody came by once I selected it ( both of us seated at this time). I asked for our server to order the wine... Once it came, it was the wrong bottle. Once we got the right bottle, 45 minutes passed and I had to go ask the hostess to please send our server over to order our meals because I was concerned about time as we both had to return to work.
Also, its not a great look to have your servers visibly distracted and on their phones when you want to get their attention for the next course, or just water (and our server was )
I dont know if leaving a table with a bottle for 45 minutes before ordering is a tactic to get a second bottle down but it was very disappointing. Because of this we had to watch the clock to pace getting out on time.
I was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism of the server staff.
The food made the experience for sure. The hostess was very accommodating and pleasant and communicated the birthday to our server.
The service was perfect and the roast duck was delicious.
I like this place , our server was amazing I can’t remember her name Ashley or Lauren ? but she s very attentive , we were outside and when started raining we were seating inside very quickly
Unfortunately I got sick after I ate there , I had the restaurant week menu , mussels and for the main course I got the cavatelli ,the pasta was too greasy so couldn’t eat it , just a couple of bites .
I don’t like to complain, because I like this place so much .
Went here for a date with girls from college, I got there late but the waiter was so nice and accommodating
pretty mediocre service here, cute rooftop but a little loud (playing party-brunch music at 8pm on a sunday). some food was great (scallops, watermelon gazpacho) but some was really not good (cavatelli with very bitter/wilted sorrel). waiter who poured our wine wasn't able to give equal portions.
This is a return visit to the restaurant. We enjoy the ambiance and the service as well as the food. The smoked lamb appetizer as well as the branzino with sautéed spinach well presented and flavorful. I tasted the cavatelli which was creamy and perfectly cooked.
Dessert for me were berries with a raspberry sorbet. A great way to end the meal.
went for restaurant week menu.
reviewed restaurant week dinner menu that evening on line
menu at restaurant was very, very different. selections we had made based on online menu were unavailable
servers kept removing items before folks finished
waiter was indifferent at best.
The food and the overall service were OK, but I had the most surreal experience at this restaurant, that I would never return to. To make a long story short, our reservation was for five, but one of our diners was unsure about joining. We got seated at a 6 top, then were moved to a four top after that 5th diner did not show up. After the 5th showed up later, the restaurant made a big deal about vilifying our table. There was even a suggestion by a manager that we go wait in the lounge for the right table to open up to us. This was after we had already finished our appetizers! Yes, please get up mid-meal and then go to the lounge and wait. Although our waiter helped diffuse the situation, it was embarrassing to us and our clients that the manager would make a suggestion. I guess he sized us up as unimportant. Oh well, will not be returning there and will take my $350 bill elsewhere.
Excellent service n food. Great environment for a good conversation
One of our favorite restaurants in the city, with an outstanding regular menu and also during Restaurant Week. On this visit, the food was terrific as always, but the service was severely lacking. Hostess asked us to wait to be seated, then forgot about us. Waited 10-15 minutes for menus. Entrees did not arrive until 1.5 hours into service! I still look forward to our next visit because of such positive experiences in the past, and hope this was just an unusual day for the staff.
Enjoyed my Restaurant Week meal - smoked duck breast and lamb chops. My friends had the scallops and it was not as filling as they hoped for. It was two big scallops cut in half to make it look like 4 pieces. The cake pop dessert was pretty cool, but the chocolate cake definitely stole the show in the dessert category.
I've eaten here many times before, but the garden dining room service was appalling tonight. I had to beg for water, for a 2nd drink, and simply to order food at all. I have no idea what was going on there, but wow. That was bad. The second drink arrived AFTER I tried to cancel it because we were all finished eating and waiting for the check. So I get a check and a fresh drink - which I was charged for... What in the actual hell, David Burke?
It’s a busy weekend noon and I have to find the receptionist by myself when I walked into the restaurant. The service is okay, but not excellent. Food taste is okay, maybe that’s because of the brunch menu. Should have booked the night reservation.
Only the outside seating was available, which was nice for a time until the sun started beating down in 90 degree weather. They often brought food that was not ours to our table.
I wanted to like this place far more than I did. We went for restaurant week but only leaned after being sat that Saturdays do not apply. (Really wish this would have been on their website) The menu is limited, a bit too limited in my opinion, and portions were too small for their price tag with no side dishes. The worst part was service though- our waiter was either spread too thin or just not attentive because we sat outside (only option) for 15 minutes at times without water being refilled and had to hunt someone down to get our bill. I was expecting more from a restaurant with this name. Side note- if you sit outside next to the bushes, take bug spray. We were bit from head to toe by mosquitos, but I don’t fault the restaurant for this at all. I loved the decor- just wish I would have had big spray!
Went during restaurant week. Service was very slow and food was bland. We had an 8:30 reservation and the restaurant was out of two entrees on the menu, so there was only one choice left with out having to pay a supplemental fee. Food was not worth it.
Let me start with the positive- food was great, ambiance was cool, Pinot Noir delicious, love that David Burke always participates in Restaurant Week...Hi 5! Now the service left a lot to be desired. Servers were very friendly, no one was rude, but they do a disappearing act. Hostess wasn't there where I arrived for a few minutes, fine; she was nice and asked me if I wanted to check out upstairs, very accommodating...but when I came back I had to wait again and she was generally super spacey and checked out... Our initial waiter took a while to get to us, he was very nice, but then he disappeared. He wizzed through the restaurant 4 or 5 times, but never made eye contact. Eventually we flagged down who seemed like the Floor manager (man in a suit), to find our waiter but thankfully he took it upon himself take our full order. Of course AFTER his manager already took our full order, our original waiter was checking in, smiling, etc. Man Pulllease! Water guy was on point at all times and he brought bread! He saw the hunger and desperation on our faces. Kudos sir! he should have gotten the 20% tip I left! Sommelier Angel was great as well! I do enjoy good spacing between courses, but we actually had to ask about our entree already 2 glasses of red in...so again the service was my main issue.
All that being I would go back b/c the food was delish, but now I know to be patient and eat bread.
Went for restaurant week.
Had a 7pm dinner, was pretty quiet in the restaurant at this time.
The service was slow. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. The drinks didn't arrive during the starter, we got them a good 5 minutes after the main course had been served.
When we left at 8ish it was a lot busier so goodness knows what the wait time would be then.
Food was delicious though
Everything looked great on paper and there were some tasty moments, like a cream sauce that tasted like vitamixed tamales, but in general we felt like this place was a little off its game- as examples, the fish wanted salt and the tomato dominated the watermelon-tomato soup. The whole place, from the execution of the menu to the decor, felt like it wanted a refresh, like a broadway show that’s been running for a long time. Still good but no “wow” moments.
My food was great! I had a starter salad and the burger (medium rare). My friends, not so much. She ordered a pasta dish and was underwhelmed. It was oily and the pasta was very al dente.
We went on a Friday afternoon and it was not busy. The service was great and everyone was very friendly.
Beware-this restaurant overbooks reservations. We had a reservation and were on time, but had to wait over 30 minutes for a table to open up. There were dozens of others also waiting unhappily with us. However, once seated, the service was good and the food was outstanding.
wow - just not what we were expecting from a David Burke experience - someone thought that perhaps David Burke sold the business and he is no longer running it (?)
the maitre'd seemed uninterested in our arrival - the music and the conversation levels were deafening - and the place looks very downtrodden - its been very hot and humid in NY and the AC was definitely not working until after starters were done - there were a lot of staff roaming around - not sure what they were doing - a fork accidentally went to the floor, our waiter wandered about to find a replacement fork (cause we needed that fork right away - not) then our waiter came to ask for our drink order - was going to bring water first - then disappeared - another waiter also came to take our drink order - then we never saw her again. the sommelier arrived in between the starter and main courses to introduce himself. never saw him again. the starter plates and bread plates were taken away. oh, then the bread arrived. the bus boy was asked about bread plates - he did a spin around the dining room and our waiter showed up with bread plates from out of nowhere - the staff was just as uninterested in our departure. maybe they were all really hot from the messed up AC - totally understandable. oh well.
We did not have a good experience.
Service was terrbole.
Wrong drinks, wrong food, wrong veggies..
Disapppointed based on expecations.
Everyone was so kind and the food was absolutely delicious!
