David Burke Kitchen - The Garden Ratings and Reviews
I get the private event but at least there should have been more communication on website or on open table for the private event. Tree house dining is not an experience we were looking for since main dining room was closed for private event. I get the nature of the business but it's still not good enough notice.
I had dinner with a friend who I hadn't seen in a long time and we had a great time.
We sat in the garden upstairs on a beautiful summer evening when it was not humid. We started at 6 pm and didn't leave until 9:30 p.m. The wait staff were very attentive throughout the evening.
The food was excellent. I had the pork belly with pineapple shrimp fried rice. Everything was cooked to perfection and timed just right after our appetizers. The rich deserts were so good as well: fruit shortcake and chocolate mouse cake.
It was a perfect NYC summer dinner outing at at great dining place!
The pina colada pancake was nasty. Very thick and cake like but not tasty. The eggs were unsalted and they left the dry nasty pieces from the egg being over cooked. The drinks were watery and over priced. Over all the food was the LEAST of any reason to go here.
We really enjoyed our dinner. The Garden is lovely and it was a beautiful night. It was lobster Tuesday so we both ordered the special. My wife had the lobster gazpacho and I had the lobster tacos to start. Both were excellent. I had the steamed 1 1/4 lb steamed lobster and my wife had the 1 1/4 lb grilled lobster. Both were perfectly prepared. I got asparagus with my that were large and tender. We each had with me by the glass. I had the Cabernet from Washington called Maurice. Very good and well priced at $15. My wife had a Sauvignon Blanc. Highly recommend. We will be back!
Beautiful outdoor location and very good if not excellent food. The background music is a bit too loud (wanna-be-South Beach style) for a relaxing dining experience. The steaks are expensive and the restaurant did not offer any variations / sauces Etc (generally do not compare to similar entrees at the top steak houses, Capital Grille etc). The luxury of the outdoor space however makes this a worthwhile experience overall.
Ordered a bottle of wine which then wasn't available. Tried a second. You guessed it. We were offered a third which wasn't good. Waited a long time to order although the place was empty. We were suggested a shortcut to go for a drink at the bar upstairs and then got bounced. Food was very good but pricey
The Garden has the same menu as the Kitchen downstairs but with the added outside dining. The food itself is worth dining here but the view is amazing. The people and staff are beautiful. The service is well appointed. Come here to have a good time with good food and good people.
i took my daughter to this restaurant as a treat and we did enjoy it although there were a few blips they need to iron out. The pineapple and tuna tartar salad was fantastic, the ricotta and pickled strawberries was also lovely and the brie and asparagus was probably good too as my daughter wolfed it down before i could taste it. The only problem was that we got them all at the same time. We had hoped for the ricotta to share with our drink and then followed by a leisurely starter and then the mains - luckily all only one was warm and that disappeared quickly.
For mains we chose lamb and salmon. The lamb was superb - clearly a great cut and also cooked just right. The salmon was a bit too wet for my liking and the garlic mayonnaise was so pungent that it really overpowered the delicate fish taste and all you got was texture.
Desert was a cheesecake tree to share - we didn't finish and wouldn't order it again. It wasn't bad, it was just not special enough. I can only assume most people feel they would stop and just have coffee.
The food is definitely good overall but a game of several parts - some fabulous and some just so so. The ambience on the roof might have been good except for the high humidity and the occasional rain. My advice is choose an umbrella table and bring something to sit on.
This restaurant is very pretty but the food was just ok
If they had tried harder to make it better it would have been really a nice lunch as the location and service were very nice
I had an egg white omelette that had very little cheese and taste
There were no sides like potatoes just a tiny salad
Very unimpressed for the expensive price
This restaurant also does nothing to make it special
For a special occasion don't go there
Delicious food, always with a nice twist -- not just pancakes, but light fluffy ricotta pancakes. I wanted to eat every dish that passed by my table in addition to my own.
Very good service - attentive, but not intrusive. Good coffee.
Pleasant outdoor seating.
The ambiance trumps all at this dining spot. The food was creative and delicious but expensive, yet the atmosphere made the pricetag palatable. Dining under the stars in a beautiful garden setting is a unique NYC experience and at DBK's Treehouse it is worth the trip to the James Hotel -- a bit of an outlier. The housemade ricotta was delightful served in a tiny pitcher with pickled strawberries on the side. When we asked for more toasts to finish our cheese, a full plate came quickly. The rabbit & fava bean appetizer with tender unrecognizable gnocchi was delicious. Would love to order it as a main cource. Try this spot for a date or special occasion and plan to stay a while.
I've had great meals there in the past, but this time was terrible. Most of the dishes arrived overcooked and the service was spotty at best. Our waitress was overextended. I'm sad to say that the meal was super expensive and definitely not worth it this time...
