Kevin is a culinary artist with boundless imagination. The fava tips were an unexpected and subtly flavored treat. Scallops are the best in Portland. The menu seems deceptively simple but the flavors are complex and so satisfying. Kurt, responsible for the libations, always has the right wine and makes an awesome Manhattan.
I go to Davenport several times a year. Kevin always presents imaginative yet comforting dishes, suitable for sharing. Kurt runs the front of the house, and most importantly, selects the wine. This time, we had two wines from Burgundy, a white and a red. Both were fine examples, the red being a 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune from Simon Bize that was just silky smooth, with well-integrated tannins, perfectly ready to drink after decanting for 30 minutes. I just wonder why I don't visit more often.
Great tasting menu. We ordered a selection of items, including the pate, carpaccio, scallops, steak, sausage, Spanish and crab dip, cheese plate and little t - we savored every bite. Also great selection of wine and cocktail drinks. Davenport is always a nice place to celebrate a special occasion or just to get together with family or friends!
I love the intimate atmosphere at Davenport, not to mention the inspired and carefully prepared food! The wine list is always interesting, too. We always enjoy their Dining Month selections.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Great atmosphere and the owners knowledge of wine is stellar. The food is creative and well prepared. We’ve been to Davenport on our last couple trips from Seattle and hope to eat here during future trips.
Food tasted wonderful but portions were a bit small for my husband and he left hungry. Service was great.

Best scallop I have ever had. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very attentive. Was so nice to have the noise level to be able to have a conversation.
Very fine food with beautiful plating, gorgeous flavors made with a attentive hand. One thought: perhaps a 2nd waitstaff is needed.

The restaurant is intimate and modern with an outstanding wine list. Our server was friendly, informative and very knowledgeable about the wine list. The restaurant made subtle changes to some of the dishes to accommodate one vegetarian and one pescatarian in our group of four, because the menu is designed to share dishes. The roasted fava greens and the spinach/crab dip were outstanding, as was the dessert of the evening, lemon pot de crème.
First impression wasn’t great: the bar area is a bit of a mess (dozens of bottles haphazardly strewn about).

Dishes were overall good. Our favorites were the spinach and crab dip and wagyu. There was a kitchen mixup with the cod which resulted in it arriving about 20 min after the wagyu which was disappointing. Server and restaurant handled it very well and we weren’t in a huge rush, so it didn’t ruin the night.
No real “wow” factor from any of the dishes. They were good, but nothing I feel like I need to return to have again. Definitely appreciated the service recovery efforts which speaks to them having a good crew.
Nothing wrong with Davenport. Only with open table, who has decided that we live in Portland instead of L>A>
Excellent, attentive service and delicious food. We had the Carpaccio, Pate and Waygu coulette. All for sharing. Along with drinks and some bread, it was a nice evening.
We arrived 20 minutes late for our reservation, thus were told we might be "rushed" if we took a table. This wasn't a problem since we could eat at the bar. The bartender was the best part of the dining experience. Excellent cocktails and explanations of the food we ordered. The portions as one might expect are not large, but can be adequately shared between two. To be blunt, the place is humorless. The chef was quite dour while standing with arms folded in the kitchen observing the cooks. Maybe I'm just not a haute cuisine type of guy, but there are many other more enjoyable restaurants in town.
As always, dining at Davenport was a delightful experience. Nuances in flavors, perfection in preparation and ingredients, exemplary service, extraordinary wines...what’s not to love?

Great place. We'll be back and bring some friends next time. Haven't been in awhile and it continues to impress. Lots of yummy cocktails and small plates. The coconut cod was sublime.

Food is extraordinary in its simplicity that highlights the inherent flavors in the individual items or by pairing another complimentary food together. Chef Kevin a master!
This is always one of our favorite places. The wine menu is as unique as its curator and never disappoints. If you are ever going to trust someone to help you pick a wine, I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Which was better and more surprising? The deviled eggs filled with crab or the crispy lamb belly? Both were outstanding, as was everything we ordered. This is a perfect place to go for dates or evenings out with friends. We'll be back, as much for the service as for the food.

Davenport consistently has some of the best food and service in Portland. The entire staff were incredibly welcoming, warm and attentive to our needs throughout the experience. I would highly recommend Davenport to anyone looking for a higher end meal in an intimate setting.

Went for a family holiday meal and the family style portions were perfect for the evening.
Interesting selection of smaller plates, wonderful wine by the glass, good bread (very important), and they treat vegetables with respect. I especially loved the young radishes.

The waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. HOWEVER....
The menu was soooooooooooo limited. I struggled to find something that I really wanted.
The menu was hard to read. I did not know where appetizers ended and entrees began. The cost for apps was high. Descriptions need to be more detailed. Organize the menu to read like a menu. Use plainspeak.
I ordered a "cabbage roll' as my entree. There was just one roll and it was not large enough for me to consider it an entree .
I am not a big eater. but I was certainly hungry when I left. I had to dive into cheese and crackers once home.
I spent a lot of $$$$ for a small amount of food. I will not return to Davenport.
By choosing a few small plates as starters to share and then selecting our "mains", we were able to assemble a varied and delicious meal. These plates arrived at just the proper time giving us a wonderful evening. Considering the equality of the food, service and ambiance the prices were quite reasonable.
We had an early dinner before our event. The food was delicious and the presentation was amazing. We ordered 7 courses to share. We enjoyed our experience so much, that we thought we should come back another time with our prime focus on eating here.
Excellent food and service. Rotating, seasonal menu keeps the place interesting and new. Morgan and Jeremy always give great recommendations.

The lamb belly is one of the best dishes in Portland, and our server was great. Overall an amazing dining experience.
Service was painfully slow and food was mediocre at best. Absolutely overpriced for what we got—we ordered a lot and still left hungry. Literally stopped at McDonalds afterwards.
There were six of us. We brought some wine and ordered some more from their extensive list. A few small dishes were ordered and served communally as starters. Mains were ordered individually. The service was spot on with the wait staff covering for each other in a seamless, professional manner. Kevin's food was, as always, wonderful. The main ingredients were identifiable but prepared and presented with refreshing originality. Even with the restaurant packed, it was possible to carry on conversations around the table. Looking forward to our next visit.
Wow. I wish there were 6 stars for those special gems that just over-achieve without trying to. The menu is inventive, the service was impeccable, the wine list is to drool for, the food is well prepared AND all tied in with the vibe and ora of your neighborhood spot. I can’t wait to come back again and again. My server was great - she was attentive, helpful, friendly and genuine. Mark popped over from the bar to assist in any beverage questions I had. 17 out of 10 will return :)
Consistently the best dining experience in Portland.
Our food and service was good. It was spendy for what you get and some of the food was a little bland (braised leeks, the cheese plate needs bread or crackers) The scallops are as good as the other reviews say and the beef dish was fantastic. The tomato salad was also very good. Our service was more European style, meaning don't expect super attentive service, but I really like and appreciate that. I can get a waiters attention if I need something, so I appreciate no one asking me 10 times during my meal if I am "enjoying everything".
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner - the food was varied and delicious and we loved the wine they recommended. This is a great place for a date or to celebrate with someone special.
