About Davanti Enoteca - Taylor Street
With rustic exposed brick walls, re-purposed farm wood and communal tables, Davanti Enoteca takes its cues from the small villages of Italy. Diners enjoy authentic Italian dishes they would find in the Italian countryside, but with a contemporary, creative twist. The start diners may choose from the selection of formaggi and salumi which is designed for guests to create their own boards by choosing from unique options. Instant classics include the boards that are presented to the table. The Foccacia de Recco is a flaky Ligurian style foccacia, baked and stuffed with creamy melted crescenza cheese and served with honeycomb to spread on the warm pastry. Buttery marscapone polenta is ladled on a wooden board and served with ragu of the day.

Davanti Enoteca - Taylor Street Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I went to Davanti Enoteca for dinner on Valentine's Day. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine with our appetizer, dinner, and dessert. Our server gave a wonderful recommendation concerning my dinner choice and was attentive without being intrusive. The staff was also responsive in regards to taking plates away and refilling water.
Other than the dessert being a bit overpriced for the portion (lava cake with gelato), the food was wonderful. We would not hesitate going back as we have been to Davanti Enoteca several times before and have never been disappointed.
I was really looking forward to this meal because everybody ranted and raved about it. The food was amazing but the service was really lacking and it was unfortunate. We don't drink alcohol, but no one even asked us if we wanted a drink at all. This was a Tuesday night so you think that it would have relatively been slow.
There is just something about the ambiance, food and service that blend perfectly at Davanti Enoteca on Taylor Street. I love the brick and wine bottles surrounding the dining room. It gives a very cozy feel without feeling crowded. We were with friends and were able to carry on a conversation without shouting, or overhearing anyone else. And everything we tried was delicious!
It's always a pleasure introducing friends to Davanti Enoteca. We brought a new friend there the other night. We always insist on ordering the Polenta and Ragu of the day and it never disappoints. The other night we had a half order. The ragu was sausage which was perfect for a cold winter night. Some time ago we brought two of my husband's younger colleagues and their families. We had a large order of the polenta and had to order a second large order; they inhaled it. The other night we were interested in a lighter meal. My husband suggested the Scarole Salad (scarole, gala apple, pecorino pepato, celery , and hazelnuts). We've always been delighted with the salads; do order one. Our friend suggested the Agnolotti (butternut squash, toasted hazelnuts, sage, and brown butter). She also suggested the Bruschette of the Day. Both dishes were new to us and we really enjoyed them. The staff is knowledgeable and warm. A quiet table is a necessity and the staff always accomdates our request. The wine list is fun to explore. Take friends to Davanti Enoteca! Our friend contributed $30 to the total bill which we thought was too much but she insisted since we were driving her home. A shared meal won't break the budget.
I had high Expectations on the food for its excellent reviews, However after dinning at the restaurant , I find the food no different than you will find at your local Pizza Place, as it might be even better than this restaurant . Service was good, Food below average
So I normally don’t write reviews, but was compelled to after our New Years Eve experience at Davanti which left me really annoyed. I will start by saying that we live down the street from this restaurant & have frequented it often since they first opened. It’s been one of our favorite restaurants & not just because it’s in our neighborhood. As well, we’ve celebrated New Years Eve there numerous times with excellent service & great experiences. However that was far from the case this past Sunday. We arrive for our 830pm reservation (originally a 930pm rsvp until they called on Friday to say the restaurant would be closing at 10pm) & are told that the only table available is a high top table at the bar, otherwise we would have a 30-40min wait for a table in the “dining room” despite our reservation. Fine, things happen, We’ve sat at the high top tables by the bar plenty of times so we were ok with that. What I was not ok with was the two bartenders who were suppose to be waiting on us only came by our table twice to check on us (there were only 2 other ppl sitting at the bar) & when they finally did come a third time it was to inform us that the kitchen was closed & all we could order now was dessert! They didn’t even bother to come ask us if we wanted anything else for dinner before the kitchen closed! When I explain this to the bartender her response to me was “oh I didn’t know you guys wanted anymore food”...hello!?!? If you had bothered to ask us before we would’ve told you. So our New Year’s Eve dinner consisted of 2 shareable dishes...oh & 1 dessert. They were in such a hurry to clean up & close up so they could get to their own celebration that they ruined ours.
The food was VERY overpriced for being so mediocre. The steak ordered was extremely fatty and the burger, that they are allegedly KNOWN for, wasn’t cooked as requested and served on a ballpark quality bun. I requested a bottle of Malbec ($42) and was told they only sold it by the glass (although I’m staring right at the bottle price) and received a VERY poor attempt to upsell a $75 bottle of Malbec along with the statement “I’m not trying to price gouge you, but this is really good”. I then proceeded to indicate we were not looking to purchase a $75 bottle of wine and inquired on the other bottle originally ordered that apparently was only sold by the glass and asked if it was out of stock. I was then told “oh no, I mean we have it I just wanted to show you the other one.” Really? It was unfortunately a pretty poor experience and we won’t be back.
We were visiting Chicago for a few days with our family (ages 17, 12 & 9) and we were encouraged to make the trip over (a 10 Mom cab ride) for dinner here. We were not disappointed. Great food and the family style menu is a great Way for our crew to try new things. Leave room for dessert!!
The service was incredibly slow. We arrived on a week night around 5:30 pm. There was hardly anyone else in the restaurant when we arrived. We ordered 2 glasses of wine, bruchetta, one salad (to share) and one pizza (to share). After an hour an a half, we still hadn't been served our pizza. We ended up taking it "to go" because we had a 7 pm meeting at Rush to attend. It's a nice place, but I would only go back if I had A LOT of time.
We had a great meal and service here. My husband had the blonde pizza and it was yummy. I had the burger with fries that was outstanding. The beer selection was good and wine by the glass choices were better than most places. Our waitress was on top of everything. A very nice evening.
We sampled so many great dishes, including octopus, pizza, bruscetta, pasta and a foccacia Davanti is known for. I wasn't able to chose a favorite, but my daughter's was the foccacia, with everything else a close second. The service was fantastic as well! Can't wait to go back and enjoy the Bloody Mary bar and other menu items - like the burger!
I’ve been to this location for brunch on the weekend many times and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so, that when a friend mentioned meeting up for dinner, I selected Davanti. This was my first time on a Tuesday evening and truly from start to finish, it was a completely different restaurant. Started off with the happy hour (don’t jump to assumptions, we spent $50 each before leaving - tried to spend more, however, it took over 15 minutes to gain the waitress’ attention and by then we had grown weary of begging for our next course) the bartender was also the hostess - unfortunate as she didn’t appear to be a people person. Once we moved from the bar to our table, the new waitress was friendly, however, not time efficient. Maybe the happy hour assumption was made as well, but don’t offer HH if the management/staff isn’t on board. The food was fine - not as good as the brunch, however, it could have been the experience overall that dulled my palate. The one saving grace, and I must say, this is a consistent win for this restaurant, is the busing team- they are attentive, efficient, friendly, and knowledgable on the flow of a meal. They also seem happy to have you. Had it not been for our buser, we would have left - my friend mentioned going across the corner to another restaurant to finish the meal right before our buser’s arrival. Also, the menu changed, but the website is out of date - no more mussels or even bolognese. I will return for brunch - once I’ve seen the new menu, but there are so many alternatives for dinner in the area, unlikely I’ll try this one again. Of course, maybe this was the C team in play on a Tuesday night?? New management approach??? I’m making excuses as I really hope my experience was just a one time miss as I’ve always favored this spot.
