Darya Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Darya is the finest Persian Restaurant in California, bar none. We are always treated as honored guests. The food is great. Every dish is unique and well prepared and served. The wait staff is wonderful. They makes sure you are satisfied throughout the meal. They refill your beverages without having to ask.
We are frequent guests at Darya for all of the above and will continue. Glad they are on Open Table.
This was my first exposure to Iranian/Persian cuisine. Not quite Indian, a shade different from other Middle Eastern food. Décor splendid, wait staff very spiffy in tuxedos. Lots of choices, meats, seafoods, vegetarian, and everything we tried was quite yummy. My date especially liked the tea. Two comment: (1) I try to minimize my sodium intake, so to my taste buds the food, particularly the rice, was a little salty; (2) The plate portions are very large, two diners could very easily split one entrée plate plus a salad. The rule-of-thumb for ethnic restaurants is whether diners of that particular ethnicity patronize the restaurant. True, but one also saw Anglo, Asian, Hispanic diners as well.
It was our first time. The restaurant did not have a couple of ingredients to make a couple of drinks we wanted. I understand the lamb was quite delicious. I ordered the seafood platter. The fish and shrimps were great but the scallops were nearly tasteless. The ambiance and decor were lovely. I received a complimentary dessert for my birthday. I had 1 bite and that was enough for me. The rest of my party enjoyed the rest. The dessert was like eating hard and sticky sugar. We all agreed we would return.
Very nice experience. Requested a quiet and private table for sensitive business discussions. We got just what we needed, in the back corner of the restaurant. Food was delicious and a very good value for the price. Lovely decor/ambience. Plenty of parking in South Coast Village. Server very pleasant and accommodating but did not seem to understand as much about the menu as I would have expected. This is a hidden gem.
Over 30 years going to this place from the old location to the new one never had a bad meal or bad server. Lately I lost faith in eating out . Going to Darya restored my faith . Consistent and good
My compliment to the management
Great place for authentic food clean delicious food
We felt so well taken care of! Behnam answered all of our questions, had no trouble customizing our meal and even moved us to a larger table to better accommodate the amount of dishes we ordered (which were all delicious and beautifully presented.) Truly a memorable experience!
The food was delicious, from the appetizers, (roasted eggplant) and the entrees beef and chicken kababs., The sizes are very generous and large. The server was EXCELLENT. We were a high maintenance table, and he was very very accomodating with everything and every request. They were friendly and professional.
I hadn't been to Darya for some time. When I suggested it along with a few others for my friend's birthday treat, she enthusiastically chose Darya. We didn't even need a menu because we knew we'd be having lamb. It was perfect. Cooked exactly right. Marinated deliciously, not overwhelming the lovely taste of the lamb, but enhancing it. We sub Persian salad for half of the rice, and the contrast of the bright flavor of the salad complements the rich lamb exquisitely. And actually this doesn't have to be a special occasion place. Lunch prices are quite reasonable.
We dine at Darya regularly. I usually point out particular dishes; however, at Darya, they are all great. The wait service is very good, although we have our favorites.
TakeMyAdvice, dine at Darya the next time you're looking for a great place for authentic Persian food.
We had an incident where someone fainted at our table. Granted we were in a corner and it was a busy night, but we called 911 and almost had an ambulence come out, it was quite a scene. No one in management came by our table to make sure everything was ok, our server didn't even acknowledge that anything happened. The food was ok, but service and management attention were terrible.
I have been eating at Darya for many years. The food and the service are not only excellent, they are CONSISTENTLY excellent. The restaurant is lovely inside, one of the gems in South Coast Village. The chicken and filet mignon kebabs with basmati rice are delicious! The ash reshteh is the perfect warming, wintertime soup. They have a great menu, and the servers are always friendly, professional and flawless.
I organized a group lunch for my old co-workers for the holiday. I selected Darya since they could accommodate such a large party, and we had been there before and had a great meal. There were 11 of us. We were seated promptly, and our server gave us some suggestions for drinks and appetizers. The appetizers came out quickly and tasted great. The menu had several options for lunch entrees, including vegetarian. The food was really good and the portions were fine. None of us opted for dessert or coffee. Service was attentive. All in all, a very nice experience.
Very pleasant atmosphere. It was the first time I ate Persian food and was delighted with the tastes. I celebrated my friend's birthday because she said it was one of her favorite restaurants and she wanted me to enjoy the experience, which I did. Food was great, ambiance very pleasant. Would definitely go back. The only minus is that I did tell them it was her birthday through the opentable reservation, but they did not acknowledge this.
I have been a loyal customer at Darya in South Coast Village for many years. Their food and service are consistently excellent. And the restaurant itself manages to be elegant and comfortable at the same time, with leaded glass windows and chandeliers, comfortable chairs and lovely pieces of art around the large dining room. My personal favorites are the kebabs made with filet mignon or chicken breast, with fluffy rice and salad.
I would normally point out the dishes that we had. However, that really isn't necessary. We have been coming to Darya for quite a few years now. There is nothing on the menu that isn't flavorful and totally satisfying.
Our favorite dessert is the saffron pistachio ice cream. If they could keep the light waffles in stock that usually are served with the ice cream, I'd be even happier !!
Our favorite server is Ivan. He comes to your table with a smile on his face that lights up the room. He is efficient and checks more than once to make sure everyone is satisfied and enjoying their meals. We so appreciate that.
The experience at Darya is really wonderful from a customer service aspect. The management and staff did a wonderful job catering to my young family's needs and wants.
The ambiance was fantastic with a 3 person bnd playing to entertain without overpowering the room's natur noise level.
The food was above average my wife's chicken was a bit dry and the khoubideh was less flavorful than others I have tried. The bill was a bit on the pricey side. Nice for a special occasion or romantic dinner atmosphere.
I noticed them accommodating several large groups without issue.
Overall, I would return here.
Darya is a wonderfully authentic Persian experience. The dining room is beautifully set and appointed, with white tablecloths and silver service. Waiters are excellent and menu is varied and interesting. All dishes come with rice and salad, if you wish, so that costs are ‘real’ - that is, you really pay what it says on the menu which is unusual nowadays when you almost always have to pay for extras.
Lunch is a great bargain although I have eaten there in the evening and the ambiance is wonderful warm and vibrant.
The Kebabs are great, particularly the Koobideh, and the fesanjan, gormeh and borani are all delightful. I would highly recommend this restaurant to lovers of Persian food or those wanting to have a culinary adventure.
