We had a lovely seat in front of the window with a very kind and attentive server. The food was delicious and prepared with exquisite detail. Can’t wait to return.
Second time here and once again fantastic food, ambience, and service!
My pasta special - linguini with shrimp and scallops - was totally tasteless. My friend's pasta (I forget which one it was) was ok. When asked by our waiter if we wanted coffee after dinner, we said "yes, please" and ordered a cappuccino and a machiato. We waited and waited and they never came so when someone else dropped the bill on our table we just paid and left.
My experience at Darlington House was underwhelming. Everything was off. I will not go back.
To start, the hostess tried to seat my husband and I at a tiny table between two other sets of diners even though there were many other open tables spread out across the dining room (and other diners sprinkled throughout). Someone, the manager I presume, intervened and asked the hostess to seat us in an area with a little more space. We were taken to a table in the bar area which is directly down the hall from the front door. Every time the door opened a gust of cold air shot down the hallway and into the area in which we were seated. I was quite cold, and would've preferred to dine sardine-style instead.
The menu had not been proof-read for errors before printing - words were missing from descriptions and there were grammatical mistakes.
The food was expensive for what we received. My husband got the steak which was very fatty (and not in a good marbled kind of way. There was lots of gristle). I had the butternut squash tortelloni which came dressed with a parmesan, butter and sage sauce which was like a thin alfredo-style sauce. It just missed the mark .
Service was underwhelming. It was hard to get the attention of servers so much so that diners around the restaurant were raising their hands to catch someone's attention.
Great night as friends first time to Darlington House. Relaxed at bar as we all waited for everyone to show up. Great drinks very nice and helpful bartender. Great service at table. salads to start and pasta and chicken dishes were perfect. Exc3ellent food. Service is always on!
friendly, inviting staff. comfortable, home-like interior.
The restaurant is cozy and the food very good. Service was great.
Great home-y restaurant. Staff was very nice and welcoming, food was good, ambiance was nice - not too loud.
Pretty pricey, small plates, good quality food. Most likely will not return.
We went to Darlington House on a whim to celebrate a birthday, and it was fabulous! Their pasta is made in-house daily, and everything we had -- from the ravioli to the butternut tortelloni to the saffron risotto of the day -- was absolutely delicious. Our server made several excellent recommendations, and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. I will definitely be returning!
Love Darlington House. Wonderfully attentive staff and service. Good food reasonably priced. What's not to like?
The food was fine; they should update the décor. Lampshades on sconces were mismatched and torn. The place is looking a little tired.
It is hard to rate the Darlington house as it is two restaurants. We ate ate at the classy, elegant upstairs part of the restaurant, with a quiet atmosphere, a lovely menu and fine dining. The down stairs has a raucous, pub atmosphere and lively bar scene. There are a good mix of types of food, with excellent homemade pasta and the prices are not out of line with moderate DC prices up stairs; the food is cheaper and more pub food downstairs. The service was friendly and good. We have take guest there as a thank you or birthday treat more than once.
Very good but it took a long time for our entree to come.
I had the ravioli and it was delicious! Our waiter was attentive and personable. I very much enjoyed this dining experience!
Salad and tomato sauce bland and without flavor. Waiter never checked to see if everything was okay after food arrived. It was not. For the cost, I would expect better quality food and attentive service. To quote my husband, "If we lived in DC, I wouldn't go back.
went for brunch with my family! everyone that worked there was super friendly from the moment we walked in! the food was delicious and beautifully presented. the whole place is adorable and keeps a great deal of the buildings original charm! the time of day we went also allowed for a lot of natural light which was lovely!
We visited for our anniversary. The food and service were wonderful!
On a spur of the moment, we decided to have Italian. Looking for nearby places to the wharf in DC, Darlington had a better than 4 stars rating. A safe bet for sure right? No, it was anything but.... We arrived and sat outside. We entered our orders with the waitress. It took sometime for appetizer to come. So, we asked for bread. Some time passed by and appetizer arrived. We were famish so we dove in. The bread arrived after we were nearly done with the appetizer. By this time the sun had set and it is now colder. The ladies on te patio all pulled out their sweaters. We asked the waitress if she could turn on the heater above our head. She said no. Her reason was it is still pretty warm. We finished our dinner and left. No more than minutes later, i had a stomachache and ten the runs. Enough said.
Start with a few drinks and then excellent wine from Sicily. Seafood pasta and veal dishes were our main and they were excellent. Excellent staff and service
Lovely night .. all the way from Australia !!
Great to see some lovely New Zealand white wines
Darlington House has an interesting menu with gluten-free options. I enjoyed the great food, excellent ambiance, and attentive service. I will be back soon! Many thanks!
Great for a business dinner though there was a group near us that was loud and taking photos a lot, which seemed a bit out of place for a Sunday evening and for this spot. Our waiter seemed to be friends with the group.
We were seated at a wonderful table near a fireplace (not burning). However, once we were seated it took too long to get a waiter to the table, I had to stand up, look around, and gesture, The hostess asked one waiter to attend to us and he completely ignored her, turning his back and walking away. About a minute later a very friendly waiter came and helped us. It was all good after that. The food was excellent, well presented, and came quickly. The wines by the glass were a short list, but good wines.
11 of us ending up eating at Darlington House. The opening bruschetta with balsamic vinaigrette were delicious. The chef next provided delicious plates of antipasti, including a special one for vegans that was happily consumed by everyone else too. Caprese, prosciutto, home made sausage, and olives were among the offerings. The warm sausage was particularly well received. Everyone was too full for additional appetizers, but the entrees were well-received. The evening's branzino special came with spinach that might have been a little too salty, but the fish was perfectly cooked as was the pasta aglio e olio requested as a substitute side for the garlic mashed (which got rave reviews at the other end of the table).
Very disappointed with the food.
The food, service and wine were so outstanding that we stayed way too long and ate and drank too much. Darlington House is my favorite restaurant in D.C.!
The food was excellent for the price point. Service could not have been more attentive! Ambience was intimate and romantic.
The owners are charming and the food perfectly seasoned. Food is generally over seasoned, or too salty, but their chef did it right...we had the salmon and steak and pasta...all perfectly prepared. Thank you for a delightful evening with friends....
Amazing experience. Came from Boston for a bachelorette and want to come back again soon. Food and service were espectacular. Remberto was our waiter and he was very great!
The food is consistently exceptional at The Darlington House. The portions were a bit smaller than usual due to restaurant week.
Delicious mushroom risotto!
Always a pleasant dining experience.
Enjoyed good food and great services. Recommending for especially ladies get-together or romantic dinner .
Found this incredible gem on the DuPont Circle foodie walking tour. Loved it so much after tasting their mushroom risotto on the tour, that we came back for dinner. Asked our fabulous waiter Ulysses about a dish I saw on one of their older menus and he asked the chef and the chef made it special, just for me. Loved the dish, the attention to detail and the flavor was incredible. My daughter ordered the risotto and loved it also. The wine list was extensive and the Placido Pinot Grigio was our personal favorite. If you get a chance, check out this historic, lovely dining establishment.
Food is always excellent- pasta is exceptional. Appetizers are seasonal and so fresh.
Excellent food and excellent service as always. I also ordered some to go.
I dine at a lot of nice restaurants and my experience at DH was one of the more enjoyable I have had in quite some time. Ambience is very different and I liked it a lot. Service srmtaff were outgoing and friendly. Good was superb. My wife had 12 oubmnce sirloin and it was perfect. I had the sausage and penne pasta and found it terrific. Two thumbs up.
Our meals--two pasta dishes--were excellent. Small but lovely wine selection. Donut holes for dessert lived up to their press by other reviewers. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. Cozy and comfortable feel in the upstairs dining room of this long and narrow brownstone. Only complaint is that the wood panelled bar at far end of dining room had a television that distracted from the romantic old world ambience of this Victorian era space. Since there is a casual pub in the basement associated with this restaurant, leave the tv's down there.
Hostess was great. Manager and staff too busy watching the soccer game to bother to greet the table or serve the wine I had ordered when I sat down. Poor selection of only (4) sparkling wines. Rude and acted like they are doing us a favor to serve us. After 20 Minutes I left and the best part is that non of the staff made any effort to win me back or save the business at hand on a quiet July night. Very poor performance. As a neighbor I would never come back or recommend.
Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was exceptional.
