We had a very enjoyable brunch at Darlington House. The staff was very attentive, and the chef very amenable to adjusting my dish in light of my gluten/dairy issues. Both of our meals were delicious.
We have eaten here several times. The food and service were outstanding, as usual.
Great evening with terrific service and delicious food
The owners were wonderful and made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend this restaurant and will be back. The mother and daughter gave us a tour of the historic building and visited with us throughout the evening. Again, we had a wonderful experience!
Great space for large parties in a cute old row home. Also in a really nice location, would totally dine here again.
Not sure why we were charged a higher price than what the menu indicated. But good food.
Food less than average...chicken parmegiana overbooked and dry. Cocktail a very short pour.
The Darlington House has always prepared extremely delicious meals for me and my dining companions. The food is Italian. It has been our "go to" anniversary restaurant for 10 years.
Staying at a nearby hotel we needed a place for dinner. I had the “heart shaped ravioli” and my wife had the chicken parmigiana. We each had a glass of domestic wine and cannoli and limoncello for dessert. While the food was very good, there was a very limited selection of vegetarian items. Overall it was a nice dinner if a bit overpriced, especially the wine list.
Went with family and had a fabulous meal. They were great to accommodate an order for a picky child. Calamari, pasta and wine were all delicious.
This place is truly great! the food, the atmosphere, and the wine all made this place special. Will highly recommend!
Found this little treasure at Dupont Circle area and was very happy!! Great service, great food and a pleasant atmosphere. We are always looking for good places to eat in DC and Darlington House is now one of them. There is a cozy little pub on the lower level too!! Will be back to this fine place!!
Service was slow and the food was mediocre. Amateur hour for V Day.
Valentine’s Day dinner. Was good food but had to wait a lil over an hour from our reservation due to back up. But other than that food was good. A little pricey
Friendly staff in a very cozy space in DC. Definitely will dine here again with friends!!
It was fine, but packed. They seated us all far too close to other diners. Wine by the glass prices were too much! Everything was just average; good but not outstanding, especially for the price.
This was the first Italian restaurant my fiance and I tried when we moved to Washington DC. The food is amazing and the service was top-notch, we went back for Valentine's Day and the service and the food we're still top notch.
We came here on a busy night and knew that we wouldn’t have attentive service, however, the service was not only non attentive but down right disrespectful. I would recommend having a nice meal somewhere else in the city that will give you a pleasurable experience.
Yummy food and lovely atmosphere for a family birthday dinner. Centrally located for easy access from Metro and nearby hotels.
Patricia, the owner, was amazing. She was very attentive and cared about our experience.
The food was good. The place had two large parties but the noise was hardly noticeable. We had a nice meal.
Wonderful evening! The staff was attentive and the food amazing!!! Greatly enjoyed our dinner and will go back again! Highly recommended
Great food, homemade pasta, wonderful staff in a cozy setting right off DuPont Circle.
Wanted to go for brunch during Washington restaurant week, but got off to a late start. Made it in time for Washington restaurant week lunch, which was AMAZING. Definitely will go back for brunch, lunch, and even dinner. This place is great.
Delicious. The restaurant was running behind on our reservation and gave us free drinks which I thought was awesome
Overall we had a great night and an incredible value for RW. Would certainly recommend. Our server was funny and entertaining, though he was a little too flirtatious with one member in our party. It was very loud but it was Saturday night so it comes with the territory. Great location. The butternut squash tortellini was incredible. Will be back for sure.
The food was mediocre at best and the service was not good. We made a reservation for 1:15 and was not seated until about 1:45. I commend the bartender for making us feel welcomed, but the rest of the waiting staff was disrespectful to my party.
Went for restaurant week. Food was pretty good. Service was great! Would go back.
We made a reservation and then when we arrived we were told we couldn’t be seated in the main dining room and had to be seated in the downstairs bar area which was very very LOUD. We waited over an hour to get our first course of salads and then another hour for our main meal. Nobody working was apologetic to the situation and the meal ended up being outrageously expensive because we had to continue to order bottles of wine to compensate for the long wait. Overall the food was fine but not fantastic. Will not return. Would not recommend.
I have been to the Darlington House on many occasions and many of those times we have bought out the place either for a birthday or wedding. Today in particular we went for restaurant week and the food, as usual, was delicious. They have an array of options to chose from and everything seems so fresh.
The food was delicious from beginning to end. The service is extremely friendly and helpful. The decor is charming and it's never too noisy so conversation is comfortable. I would highly recommend the Darlington house for a nice get together with friend and family.
It had been a while since my last visit, and I must say Darlington House looks, and is, better than ever: the dining room has been re-decorated since the last time I was there several years ago, and the ambiance is much brighter and more welcoming. Cordial staff was pleasant and most accommodating--immediately responding to our request that the music (which was great!) be turned down a bit in order not to hamper conversation. My friend and I especially appreciated not feeling as if the wait staff were "circling," waiting for us to leave so the table could be flipped! We'll let people know Darlington House is a neighborhood gem...WSM
I worked in the restaurant industry for over 15 years, from casual chain restaurants to upscale fine dining. I know what good service should be. My experience tonight was awful. The ambiance was good, a renovated older house. It showed promise. The menu is classic Italian-American. If executed right, can be great comfort food. The fresh pasta was done well, but the evening was soured by the service. It was unclear to us who our server was. Initially someone took our order, but we never saw him again. Our food came, but when it came time for our second drinks, no one would make eye contact with us or come to the table. Eventually the hostess ended up 'waiting' on us, bringing us drinks, dessert, and our ticket. Ultimately I'd rather spend my money where I feel wanted. We don't plan on going back.
It was a nice place with atmosphere, but you can find that most anywhere. I come from an area of the country with great Italian eateries. They fell short in their attempt to deliver on that
However, the staff was attentive and friendly. I just feel kitchen could use some real help.
The music was much too loud but they did turn it down to a moderate level when we asked.
I was really let down by this experience. The service was amazing, but the food was just not good at all. The calamari was rubbery and way too salty, and I even love salty. The pasta dish with broccoli was good, but not great, and definitely not worth the price. I was expecting way better food based on the reviews. Even the desserts - molten chocolate cake and the cannoli was a huge letdown. It all just tasted like cheap store bought sweets. I would not go again.
Great experience. Service was extremely quick and the food was amazing. All pasta dishes are fresh and very much worth the price. Ambience is cozy and quaint!!
It was a Saturday night and we were worried that the place was empty. We were the only couple in the entire restaurant from 4 to 6:30 pm. We hope that the drop in business was due to extremely cold weather. The food was very rich and delicious; we enjoyed the Butternut Squash Tortellini and Lasagna. Small portions, and pricey, and probably a little over priced for the quality compared to other restaurants in the area. A few times during our dinner, they played obnoxious rap music, that did not match the ambiance. I don't think they actually monitor reservations on Open Table. We made a reservation and indicated that it was our anniversary. When we showed up, they were not expecting us and did not acknowledge our reservation or celebration. Over all, despite the poor music selection, we enjoyed the intimacy of having the place to ourselves.
Excellent leisurely Sunday brunch with interesting choice of food and terrific service. Welcoming and I rushed, highly recommended.
It was a holiday office party. Good time. A little small portions for the price. But, it's DuPont. Good service. Good food. Would come again.
Two great meals -- spaghetti carbonara and a seafood pasta special loaded with lobster and shrimp. Our server, JoeEnz, was very engaging and knowledgeable of the food and wine offerings. A super evening!
