Food was excellent and the service was lovely!
We were sat an hour after our reservation. The staff did what they could to make up for it but it put our plans for the night very far behind.
The ambiance and appetizers were good but our entrees were not very good. My husbands chicken parmigiana was probably the worst he has ever had. We will not be back!
Food was amazing, our waiter was super fun and engaging and the Birthday sonnet was everything and more. Thank you so my for making our trip so memorable. We will definitely be back on our next visit
Excellent variety of fresh pasta. Love the frito misto with calamari and shrimp. Fresh burrata is excellent.
Outstanding homemade pasta and fabulous service!! Amazing for a group or for a date. I would go back in a heartbeat!
We made reservations for Valentine’s Day far in advance based on the reviews and pictures online. Unfortunately when we arrived we were seated in the basement which looks like a cool music venue, but not at all what us (or anyone seated around us) were expecting for a nice sit down dinner. There was one wine menu for all tables, which one couple apparently didn’t want to give up so no one else could see what wines they had. Not that we’re very picky, but it’s nice to see what’s available. They offered a limited menu on Valentine’s Day which I didn’t see stated online (perhaps I just missed it though) so I couldn’t have what I was looking forward to having. What we did eat was pretty good, but for the price we had hoped for more & better.
We went here for Valentine's day dinner. It was very nice and and food was excellent. The tables were a little close, though.
Excellent food, drink and service. Ernesto is a Pro!
We went to the Darlington House for Valentine's Day and the service was awful! Probably, the worst we have ever had in the USA. For the whole time we felt like we were pressed to rush with our meal and leave as soon as possible to free the table for the next client. We asked for tap water and the waitress brought us a bottle of fancy sparkling water and then added normal water into my glass. We asked for two glasses of prosecco, but only received them AFTER the food was already brought. The waitress brought us a bill, though we didn't ask for it yet... We could feel that the only thing they care about is to make as much money out of as many clients as possible. Terrible experience! Food was good though. However, still wouldn't recommend it to a friend.
Food was way overprices. Bread was cold and stale. Pasta was hard, seems like old pasta. As if they did not want customer.
It’s a quick walk from DuPont metro
The pasta is homemade and excellent
Staff very friendly and attentive
Was a favourite place of mine when it was childe Harold and love coming back to this space - great food and good oldtime bar and beautiful space upstairs!
Great time to catch up with old friends have not seen in a while. I selected Darlington House as it’s perfect, food is so good and staff is awesome. Met everyone at bar with wine and cocktails. Dinner was calamari and salads to start. Seafood pasta, lasagna, steaks were our meals. Excellent flavors. Great time and staff make it wonderful.
Not sure if they were having an off night, but I feel compelled to share my experience. The food was not good at all - my cannelloni pasta was over cooked and the cheese on the caprese tasted like rubber. I was very disappointed since this restaurant had good reviews.
I was visiting from out of town and Darlington House was recommended from a DC friend. We went for the extended restaurant week menu and it was excellent! A wonderful, cozy find in the bustling DC area and the food was to die for! I would definitely put this restaurant on a return visit and would let friends know it's a fab place to go when in DC!
The service was a bit too slow for me. Additionally, I was not to impressed with the food as it was too bland.
Great food. Wonderful service.
Food was a bit bland and needed some salt - could be that they were pumping things out quickly for restaurant week, but the food was good enough I'd give it another try.
Their wine selection was definitely on the weaker end though, so be wary of that.
came for dc restaurant week.
it's a decent restaurant, but mildly over priced for the quality of the food. the service was attentive. i enjoyed but didn't love my pasta. the lady companion was not overly fond of hers, but it wasn't bad.
the staff was excellent though.
We went during restaurant week to try Darlington House for the first time. The service was excellent and everyone was incredibly friendly. We all agreed that the food was delicious and each meal was presented nicely..
This place was absolutely the BEST place I have been to in awhile between the food & the customer service, it was impressive
This was our first time here and were only looking for someplace in the neighborhood that could seat 8 on a Saturday night without much notice. It was also Restaurant Week and the day of the Women's March. We were pleasantly surprised. We were seated upstairs, quiet enough to have conversation. We had a round table, which is also SO much better for conversation. We all got the Restaurant Week special because you can choose from among everything on the menu, not just a few things. Service was unobtrusive but attentive. Everyone liked their food quite a lot. We had a very good bottle of wine for a reasonable price. We'll definitely go back.
Casual atmosphere in a nice setting perfect for any occasion. Loved the tiramisu
Good food. Tight quarters. Wait staff is terrible. But the runners are phenomenal
I first tried Darlington House during DC Winter Restaurant Week in 2018. A three-course meal for $22 is unbeatable and I was not disappointed. The food atmosphere was gorgeous and the food was delicious! The portions were larger than I expected and very filling. I'm sure some may not have noticed, but the classic American Songbook music playing softly in the background was like icing on the cake for me. I will definitely be going back to Darlington House.
My restaurant week lunch was delicious. I particularly appreciated the effort by the waiter to accommodate my special request.
We chose Darlington House because we wanted to meet near Dupont Circle in a cozy environment. I went upstairs to the restaurant to meet my friends. They were downstairs, in the bar. The staff was very accommodating when I left to go downstairs, even though they had already seated me. The bar was fun and comfortable, but the chips were verrrry salty! The restaurant staff came downstairs when they could no longer hold our table. Very thoughtful. Two of us had the tagliolini and one had the salmon. The food was good, not great. There are many staff, all of whom were pleasant and attentive. Darlington House was just what we were looking for that night - comfortable, good food and a fun time.
Great experience. Went for restaurant week. Extensive menu to select from.
A wonderful neighborhood eatery. Leaning toward delicious classic Italian, the eggplant parmigiana appetizer, branzino fish and steak entriee's, and wine selections really stood out. The ambiance is tasteful - eye catching original art abounds, and the environment wonderful for conversations.
We made reservations on New Year's Eve for a late lunch. Open Table showed two seatings; 3:00 and 3:15. We selected the 3:00. When we arrived, the staff was preparing for a very busy New Years evening. The restaurant was empty of other customers, but we were welcomed in and served a delicious dinner. We were told about the history of the restaurant and the Darlington house itself. One of the owners came out to introduce herself to us as we were leaving. We have a new favorite restaurant in the Duport Circle area.
The food, service and ambiance is always fantastic. We were there with a party of 9 and service was impeccable. We love Darlington House.
Lovely people and wonderful food
Lovely place. Delicious food! Good service. Highly recommend!
Food was OK, not great. Chicken dish was pretty boring and lasagne was good, but have had much better homemade lasagne.
Best Italian food in DC.
Only drawback this time: the table of 15 hysterical young women who were so loud, one could not hear oneself speak, let alone what the other one was saying.
There should be a rule somewhere regulating people 's behavior and the maitre d' should be allowed to tell this kind of table to tone it down.
Because of that table, many diners, including us, ate quickly and left in less than an hour. We skipped dessert...
One of the BEST Italian food restaurants in this Town! Started at bar waiting for guest. Great service. Good cocktails. Starters were tomato mozzarella salads. meals was excellent seafood pasta and chicken dish. Great staff
Darlington House is a charming restaurant in an interesting historic house in DuPont Circle. The interior atmosphere is very good and a nice place to enjoy dinner. We had soup and two plates of pasta. The past was fresh handmade and very good. Darlington House is a great place. I plan to go back again.
We went for a graduation celebration. Our waiter, Romberto, was excellent. The food was really good and came out quickly.
Cramped bistro with over priced food and wine as well as anemic portions. I am no stranger to fine dining. Simple dishes like a caprese salad shouldnt be half a tomato and some sad basil crinkles and a sneeze of mozzarella. For seating they cram everyone in a corner even when it is not crowded. We asked to be seated in a better spot and they said no but that spot was empty the whole night. Food was very meh. I had the chicken parmigiana and while tender it was bland. A 10 dollar bottle of Ruffinos is 50 at the restaurant. There are mark ups and then there are markups. Wine by the bottle should be cheaper than the same amount by glass people. Better options around the corner. No reason to come back.
