Darfons Restaurant and Lounge Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant is usually packed every time we drive by. Hey! we should go there and try it out was our thought on this evening. So we did. The ambiance of the restaurant was great. There was music playing throughout the restaurant at a noise level that you can easily converse without feeling like you are yelling over the music. We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation. The hostess seated us with food menus however she just laid down the bar menu without an explanation as to what they were. Our server was prompt and brought out our food in a timely fashion. My food was terrible while my guest food was "okay". The dish I ordered was the Cajun chicken/sausage/shrimp pasta. The chicken in my dish was not freshly grilled seasoned chicken nor was the shrimp. The chicken I was served tasted like it was boiled three days ago frozen and reheated without seasoning, just bland, tough, and rubbery. The entire dish was drowning in sweet Ragu sauce. There was no smokey Cajun spice to the dish at all. To add insult the dish was garnished with Texas toast, not homemade herb buttered Texas toast but the kind you get from Walmart in a box from the freezer isle. A huge thumbs down. Why they didn't use the fresh sliced french baguette that was brought to the table while we waited for our food as the bread for the garlic bread blows my mind. I would recommend the most basic Cajun spice recipe ( 1 part cayenne pepper, 1 part garlic powder, 1 part onion powder, 1 part paprika, 1 part salt, 1 part pepper, pinch of chili powder for smoke flavor, mix together and season meat and sauce liberally) and a fresh garlic spread recipe (minced garlic, butter, italian seasoning, salt and pepper-mix in a bowl and spread on the bread- toast for 4-7 minutes) Instead of Ragu sauce use heavy cream, a dollop of tomato paste and chicken broth for the sauce. I should have cook at home this night! We wont be back.
We arrived at Darfon's at our 8:00pm reservation and we were told we still would have to wait 20 minutes. We waited for about 30 minutes and the hostess was somewhat rude. We were also bothered by watching people coming in from their cars, asking about the wait time, and getting sat before us. The environment was extremely noisy. The food wasn't terrible, but it was all way over seasoned and loaded with too many ingredients. If it were scaled back a little I feel like it would reflect the gourmet prices they have on the meals.
Last minute dinner plans and Darfons had one open spot. They were able to customize their menu do to my dietary needs the food itself was okay my blackened salmon was very salty. And my baby kale salad dressing was not tasty at all very bland . My husband has the barbecue salmon which he said was extremely sweet the white barbecue sauce they put on the kale on top of his salmon was not what he was expecting. The coffee was very good. The bread was cold when served. But the waiter we had made it worth the visit and for hot sauce and other than Tabasco and he actually found Valentino hot sauce and brought it out.
This was my first time at Darvon's. My brother recommended it to me. I brought my grown up niece for her birthday.
It was an incredible meal. We both agree. She said her Angus Rib-eye was the best she had ever eaten.
Benji, our server couldn't have been more accommodating. He was friendly and also gave us space. He was on top of everything.
Needless, to say, we both will be back.
Best restaurant in Donelson, and worth the drive from other parts of Nashville. We go here for special occasions, like valentines days. With drink, dessert and tip, we dropped $150. Still, a great value. The Seared Ahi and Filet Mignon were excellent and the sides were good. The steak was cooked as ordered. Excellent food, good service and a great beer and cocktail list.
Once again Darfons offers a great dining experience. Their freshly prepared homemade soups fantastic . Tomato basil & clam chowder on this trip. The huge delicious salads crispy , fresh , variety . I added salmon and it was cooked perfect. Wonderful waitstaff . I will always go back again& again.......
Our group of five had a very unfortunate experience at this restaurant. We met for brunch on Sat. Everything was going well. We had been served our food (and it was very good) however, midway through our meal, our table, our food, our drinks and everything, including ourselves were showered with debris from the ceiling vent. It took a minute to notice (the restaurant is very dimly lighted). At first look, it appeared to be large chucks of ground pepper. But this was not the case; we noticed that this debris was everywhere, including our hair. We called our server over and asked her what this could possibly be and her response was a shrug and she said “I am not sure what this is". We asked to speak with someone who could possibly explain. At this point, a very young manager came over and asked if we wanted to be moved to another table. He also expressed complete ignorance of what we could have been exposed to. Finally, he asked if we wanted to move and offered to bring us new meals. We had all lost our appetites by then. He did have the kindness to tell us that we owed nothing for the meal. As if we would have even considered paying for that meal. The general manager was contacted and her response was” the situation has been rectified” and offered a half-hearted apology. She should have said "We want your group to come by again as our guests". Frankly, I don’t know if we would have taken her up on that offer but it would have been a nice gesture. Customer service is sadly lacking. At least, none of us has been ill from whatever foreign debris that we may have ingested. It is a shame, because this restaurant has been a favorite in the past. Today, not so much.
Darfons is a fantastic local Gem. We have went for years and have never been disappointed. Always great service, food, and ambiance. If you are on the east side of Nashville and looking for a great meal this is a wondeful place to take friends and family.
It is very comfortable and you do not feel out of place in jeans and a t shirt or a suit and tie. If you dislike chain restraunts this is your spot.
I always suggest it to everyone looking a good restraunt on the east side and always get thanked for the suggestion.
We went in for a light meal before a meeting. The Brie appetizer was good, wished the almonds were whole instead of sliced. We both had salads which were tasty. The added chicken on mine could have been seasoned better. Nice wine selection. Our server was very nice and attentive. We will go back and try other items from the menu.
