While Dante has very good food, the service on the night we went was unfortunately terrible. We sat for over 15 minutes without anyone coming over to even offer water, then finally decided to move to the bar as the patio was getting dark and chilly - we thought there was more light at the (still outdoors) bar and it would be warmer. Additionally, l thought we might get some service, but again, the bartender was more interested in talking to her co-workers than providing service. A restaurant needs to provide more than just good food. Service and welcome are an important part of the experience! I hope they take note and try to do better, as the chef is putting out some very nice dishes.
The restaurant was gorgeous along with the view of the Charles and Boston skyline! My food and our waiter was spectacular!! Highly recommend
The food was excellent. The air was a little chilly (it was the beginning of Fall) and the staff brought us light blankets to cover our knees, very nice touch!
Long wait to be seated even with reservation. Nobody in restaurant were still put upstairs with no other diners. Service slow, food overpriced. Will not be back
Servers are not professional. They are really bad at timing and we often walk around to find servers.
We enjoyed the food. The service was excellent. The portions were small, and the tiramisu was a little disappointing. It was very dry and not fluffy the way I prefer. The restaurant overlooks the Charles River and it was very pleasant.
The food was very good and the prices fair. The starters were yummy which we shared. The staff was friendly and good. We enjoyed the wine wine and our dinner and will return!
We made a reservation for this restaurant hoping the weather would be good and we could sit outside and enjoy the view of Boston. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and we sat inside, which was fine but nothing to rave about.
The food is not something I'd rave about either. The appetizers were okay to good (i.e. fried calamari and meatballs), but the entree pastas were terrible. I got the spaghetti vongole (with clams), and it had about 8 very small clams (out of the shell), in a sort of congealed, flavorless weird sauce. This is such a simple recipe - clams, wine, olive oil and garlic, and it was the worst pasta I've ever had. My husband had the gnocchi and supposedly "SPICY" sautéed calamari and both were bland and flavorless. I suspect Olive Garden would be better pastas than this restaurant! The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the appetizers were okay.
Great food served at a leisurely pace
Great views of Boston skyline and Charles River
Food and atmosphere were excellent Italian with Charles Riverfront and Downtown Boston views.
Date night for my husband and me. Loved being on the Charles! Pleasant evening. We had several cheeses and prosciutto for appetizer, very nice. I had the salmon with risotto (ate it all ) and my husband had the special Pork Chop which he enjoyed greatly. Service was pretty good but we ran out of water a couple times.
The food was very good but portion size was very small. The restaurant wasn’t very crowded . In spite of that our server was not very attentive. Has to flag down another server to get water refilled
Love the patio. Bartender knows what he/she is doing. Food is quite good.
We always try to visit during the warmer months, when outside tables offer great views of the sun drenched Boston skyline. Since you are out by the bar, it can get a little exuberant but generally it is not too loud. Drinks are not inexpensive, but you are paying for the view.
I enjoyed the polpette (3 large, tender meatballs ..well flavored with a nice tomato sauce) and a half size portion of shell pasta with shrimp & scallops. The dish was ample in size and very good, with just a little heat in the cream sauce. My wife was a little less impressed with the octopus.
Usually it is not hard to get a table, but call ahead or check OT to be sure. It often works out, even under spur of the moment circumstances.
Hostess was extremely rude. Food was good but a little overpriced.
We chose Dante because we were hoping to sit outdoors on their nice patio, but alas a thunderstorm prevented that! I like the food, but am not crazy about the rather dull grey interior of the restaurant. That said, my salad and pasta were delicious, as was my husband's veal chop, and the service was very nice as well.
Food was good and service was excellent. We celebrated father's day last Saturday.
2nd time at Dante. The first time, the wind blew menus and olive oil everywhere and service was indifferent. This time, winds were calm but service still indifferent. The outdoor dining and views are the main draw. The food, though quite good, is a tad on the expensive side ($30 salmon) but the views, with sunset reflections off the Pru and downtown Boston, are worth at least a 20% premium. One hint: Forego the hotel and Cambridgeside parking and take your first right AFTER the hotel entrance - a backstreet that abuts ArtBar, Dante and Waterfront with free parking. Savings there can be applied to menu. But a beautiful sunset spot.
I really can't say too much about the experience as we were never served anything besides water. The two servers on the patio walked by my husband and I repeatedly but never stopped to even take our drink order. We left in disgust after 20 minutes.
Food was not good at all - very disappointing
We were guests at the hotel. I was attending the Harvard course on Internal Medicine.
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the menu. The bruschetta was outstanding.
Thank you for the superb service.
Dr and Mrs John Peto
Very please with the food but service was very slow. Don't think I'd hurry back unless I wasn't in a hurry.
Food was fantastic, almost as good as the view of the sunset over the Charles. Service was a little slow but that worked for us as we were able to spend longer chatting.
What a wonderful place! The food was excellent and the location and view are fantastic. We will definitely be back!
It was a Sunday evening and perhaps they had a some inexperienced waiters. They seemed young, insecure and tentative. They tried but they clearly need more practice. Also, the choice of music was annoying and the noise from a private party made it even worse. We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past and the view and location are appealing.
Excellent food and service. Fairly small menu, but fair variety. Well presented food.
Recommend the salmon and risotto.
Very nice place, the food was delicious and the ambiance is perfect for a private conversation. Wait staff are very good too.
Service incredibly slow, though place was not busy. Repeated attempts ordering a bottle of wine from wine list only to be told choices unavailable after long wait and offered a more expensive choices Finally gave up.
Excellent Salmon from Denmark! Loved the big pour of wine and the $2.00 appetizers at the bar. You can’t have a better view of Boston than from Cambridge. Can’t wait for the outdoor patio to open!
Great View and good food. Attentive staff. Enjoyed when we visited Cambridge
Food is simply delicious. We went for family Easter lunch and enjoyed the Easter menu. We ordered two appetizer size of pastas, both of them beyond expectations. The lamb was baked to perfection with the fat melt in the mouth.
Meal was excellent. Food was creative and the blending of different ingredients and tastes worked well. Service was not up to snuff. The waiter was preoccupied with friends who were dining and did not pay attention to our table. He did not ask if we would like a second drink and we had to hail him for coffee to finish the meal. Very satisfied with the food and the overall surroundings. We were staying at the hotel and it was convenient. We would definitely eat there again but, I would hope the service is more attentive next time.
The arancini was delicious and the salmon was perfectly cooked.
What was not good was that when we ordered "gnocci" we were served pasta, and the "lemon risotto" was nicely flavored white rice. Each one tasted good enough, but don't say gnocci or risotto if it is not.
A very nice Italian meal with a great view.
We have gone to Dante many times and are always satisfied.
Great views of Boston. Food and service is top notch. Love the $2 appetizer selection before 6pm. Thank You.
Ridiculously overpriced. $28 for Spaghetti Carbonara, mid size portion. What a joke
I liked the Calamari starter though. Good value there. Strange
Outstanding food. Great service. Incredible dinner!
The kitchen "forgot" about us halfway through Christmas Eve Dinner. We came to Dante specifically for "The Feast of the Seven Fishes." After waiting for 35 minutes between courses, my guest needed to leave. He is a physician on call snd needed to check the ER he covers. I explained to the Captain, paid & tipped 18% and asked to have out desserts to go. Then the waited tried to force to stay to explain to someone why he (the waiter) was not at fault. When I repeated that both the captain & the waiter agreed to have our desserts to go, I was called "rude and impatient." We left - over $200 poorer - no dessert, no entree, no parking validation (the dowdy cashier refused to validate our parking ticket). Merry Effing Christmas. .
