Dan'l Webster Inn Ratings and Reviews
A little loud. Food good, but slightly overpriced. Requested special seating for a special occasion. We were not informed that our special seating request would not be met due to a private party until the day before our visit. Overall, we were happy, but it could have, and should have been much better. With so many great options in the area, not sure if, or when we return.
Unfortunately, in the Tavern, our experience was not a good one, quite out of the ordinary and unexpected. Our meals were mixed up in preparation. 2 Burger orders were placed, but the ingredients for each Burger were put on different meals. The lobster cheese sandwich, or the lobster grilled cheese sandwich, was not as tasty as the menu indicated. The fried calamari entree was overcooked. Reuben entree was well liked.
However, both soups, the French Onion and butternut squash, were excellent. We were introducing two couples new to the tavern, but we all came away a little disappointed. This was a party of six, with advance reservations.
Definitely not typical for the Tavern as we have been there before.
We were seated in the warm and welcoming tavern dining room, which was relaxed and casual. The food was very good, from delicious lobster-crusted cod to perfectly prepared pork tenderloin and filet mignon. The service was friendly and the miniature desserts (chocolate cake and crepe brûlée) were exceptional and just the right size. In a four-day stay in Sandwich, we ended up returning twice to Dan’l Webster Inn and enjoyed it each time.
We went early the evening after Thanksgiving. It was not crowded and we were able to order off the prix fixe menu. Though the choices were limited (of course) compared with the lavish full menu, there were excellent choices and the quality superb. I had probably the best almond crusted salmon I've ever had. The lobster chowder was unique and full of lobster. My wife's steak tips were super tender. The portions were large and perfectly prepared, and the food was hot when served. Our server was very pleasant and attentive, there when needed. Great ambiance. Beautiful décor. From start to finish, one of the best dining experiences ever.
Staff was friendly and attentive. Seating was prompt. Limited thanksgiving menu was perfect and included soup to desert with no extras cost except wine. Tasty holiday traditional meal that was delicious. There was enough to bring home for Next day leftovers. everyone in our party was extreamly satisfied and we all decided this will become a holiday tradition.
We went to Daniel Webster Inn for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Their conservatory room which is their best seating was unfortunately not available due to a Function. We were seated in a rather small room at a small table against the wall and my chair abutted the open door of the room. Once seated we were comfortable but I have to admit I was disappointed.
The service was excellent. The olive oil bread dip was very bitter so I opted for butter. The food was good but unremarkable. I had the lobster crusted cod which was described as having a stuffing like topping of lobster. It did not. It had a small piece of lobster claw atop the fish. I prefer more of a breaded topping on my fish. My husband had swordfish which was a special and he said it was very good.
On the whole we very much enjoyed our diner and stay at the Inn
Food was well prepared. I had the chicken pot pie and the others had the Cod. We did the pre-fix meals which included 3 courses (Appetizer, Entree, and Dessert) which was offered if you were seated by 5:45PM. Much more cost efficient than ordering off regular menu! Waitress was attentive, food good but lacked the 'wow' factor we experienced at another local restaurant the next evening. Ambiance was nice but dirty rugs, dusty furniture, etc left a lot to be desired. Would eat there again as there is not much choice in Sandwich for a 'fine dining' atmosphere but not someplace I would enthusiastically recommend.
Met friends for Sunday brunch. Atrium seating was nice and bright on a dark day and we were seated at a good table overlooking the koi pond, but large parties were too loud for the older member of our party. The Inn is a good choice for a New England dining experience, although the pub atmosphere of the other dining rooms is more authentic. Decor could use some upgrading.
Brunch food was good and generous portions. Extensive lunch options, as well.
Only negative was the server who spoke down to us, did not tell us the daily specials, and did not listen correctly to our orders.
Bit of an uncharacteristically off night for the kitchen, perhaps-- the oil for bread dipping was a little stale, my prime rib was very sinewy (though full of flavor), and the broccolini tough. The seafood risotto was outstanding. The desserts (grapenut pudding, warm with whipped cream, brownie hot fudge sundae) were awesome, and the appetizers (lobster chowder/bisque and bacon-wrapped scallops) were far better than the usual cliches you might expect by their titles, scrumptious. Excellent salads. The Conservatory is always lovely; on a Tuesday night not too late, the music was mostly aimed at the gray-haired set (American standards, Sinatra, Clooney, with some more upbeat versions mixed in) but not too loud and suited the general ambience. Good free parking, very attentive staff, prompt service, nice wine list, classy gift shop. There's also a great pub with the same food but a more laid-back vibe, great for lunches or after the game meals, but tonight was more special for us. Always a treat.
I was disappointed for my 93 year old mom!
I made a reservation. I didn't know I had to ask for the conservatory!
This is my mom's favorite restaurant and we drove down from Foxboro MA just so she could go there for her birthday!
The host was obviously having a bad day and he was not welcoming. And when my 93 year old mom asked to eat in the conservatory he just brushed her off and said we couldn't eat there! And there was lots seating available!!! I looked!!
I know she will want to go back again! But for an upscale restaurant, I would expect better friendly service!!
I won't return!!
And felt so bad for my mom that on her birthday that she was treated so rudely by the host!!
I've gone to the Dan L. Webster many times. It is a local favorite for fine dining and has an great Sunday Brunch. You can also go early for breakfast which is a great deal. Great food and reasonable prices. They use a glass atrium with is a great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and well trained.
Another great experience at DWI. Shane promptly seated us just as we had requested. Joanne did a great job under difficult circumstances (table was surrounded by a wedding party crowd at the bar). Food was great, dessert was greater! Highly recommend it DWI!!
Staff were very accommodating. Food and service were excellent. We also enjoy the atmosphere of the Daniel Webster Inn.
P.S. The open table concept is a good way to make a reservation, but I didn't see a section to choose an area to dine in at the restaurant (i.e. lounge, conservatory, etc.).
Food = A. Service = F We made a special trip to Sandwich to celebrate our 52 wedding anniversary. The overall service was terrible. The food was very good. We have been to the Daniel Webster many times and always enjoyed our visits to the restaurant. This will most likely and unfortunately be our last trip.
We were there by 5:00, but did not receive the Early Bird menu. When this was brought to the attention of the waitstaff, the server shrugged it off and apologized. No solution. We also had to wait a while for our food, the bill and collection of the bill. I do not plan on going there again.
It's a shame because the last two times I went there the food and service was good.
