Dan'l Webster Inn Ratings and Reviews
How unfortunate that this once very good restaurant has continued to go steadily downhill over the years. So extremely disappointed in this past experience so, it will be our last. A bill in excess of $400 and the prime rib was like shoe leather, the filet was not even tender, the asparagus tough.. The wait staff was marginal and after placing drink orders, we waited 15 minutes before they were even delivered, literally! And, even before the dining experience, the interaction with the hostess over the phone to change the reservation was down right rude! We have family in the area and have frequented both the tavern and conservatory restauarants for over 20 years along with staying at the inn. No more!
Driving up from Pennsylvania we had made a 6:00 reservation but arrived at 5:15. Unexpectedly, we were seated early and, best of all because we were seated before 5:45 we were eligible for the 3 course prix fix dinner for $23.00. What a pleasant surprise! I had the best chicken pot pie in my life and my companions had the sirloin tips they thoroughly loved. Portions were generous and so were the delicious desserts. We absolutely, definitely recommend The Daniel Webster Inn ....especially that prix fix menu!
Was expecting more based on the reviews. Cool historic spot, but food was average and service was slow (although server was very nice). You expect slow service on cape in summer but not off season. Luke warm food and an empty glass for 20 plus minutes. Wanted to love this place....bummer.
We had a wonderful BFF Christmas lunch in the lovely Dan'l Webster dining room, all decked out for the holidays, and were seated right next to its beautiful Christmas tree, with a front row view of the fountain on the patio, w/ its decorative array of icicles in the midst of the splashing water.
Wonderful lunch entrees included delicious chicken pot pie served at the table over puff pastry; also though not an entree, the French onion soup w/ gobs of Jarslberg atop a crouton was more than enough for lunch. We overindulged with peanut butter cheesecake and an ice cream sundae, not to mention wine. It's Christmas!
A little loud. Food good, but slightly overpriced. Requested special seating for a special occasion. We were not informed that our special seating request would not be met due to a private party until the day before our visit. Overall, we were happy, but it could have, and should have been much better. With so many great options in the area, not sure if, or when we return.
Unfortunately, in the Tavern, our experience was not a good one, quite out of the ordinary and unexpected. Our meals were mixed up in preparation. 2 Burger orders were placed, but the ingredients for each Burger were put on different meals. The lobster cheese sandwich, or the lobster grilled cheese sandwich, was not as tasty as the menu indicated. The fried calamari entree was overcooked. Reuben entree was well liked.
However, both soups, the French Onion and butternut squash, were excellent. We were introducing two couples new to the tavern, but we all came away a little disappointed. This was a party of six, with advance reservations.
Definitely not typical for the Tavern as we have been there before.
We were seated in the warm and welcoming tavern dining room, which was relaxed and casual. The food was very good, from delicious lobster-crusted cod to perfectly prepared pork tenderloin and filet mignon. The service was friendly and the miniature desserts (chocolate cake and crepe brûlée) were exceptional and just the right size. In a four-day stay in Sandwich, we ended up returning twice to Dan’l Webster Inn and enjoyed it each time.
We went early the evening after Thanksgiving. It was not crowded and we were able to order off the prix fixe menu. Though the choices were limited (of course) compared with the lavish full menu, there were excellent choices and the quality superb. I had probably the best almond crusted salmon I've ever had. The lobster chowder was unique and full of lobster. My wife's steak tips were super tender. The portions were large and perfectly prepared, and the food was hot when served. Our server was very pleasant and attentive, there when needed. Great ambiance. Beautiful décor. From start to finish, one of the best dining experiences ever.
Staff was friendly and attentive. Seating was prompt. Limited thanksgiving menu was perfect and included soup to desert with no extras cost except wine. Tasty holiday traditional meal that was delicious. There was enough to bring home for Next day leftovers. everyone in our party was extreamly satisfied and we all decided this will become a holiday tradition.
