At Danji and Hanjan we choose to use meat raised with no antibiotics or growth hormones. Our fish are caught wild and are not overfished and endangered. We try to use as much organic and local produce as possible and certainly do not use chemicals, such as MSG, to enhance flavors. No doubt these ingredients cost more but we believe the food we consume should be healthy and responsible as well as delicious.
Went for a pre-theatre meal after searching for aaages to find somewhere to eat before our 8pm show. Stumbled across Danji as it was recommended on a few online lists due to it’s location in the theatre district. Unfortunately we were utterly disappointed and left sick to our stomachs with the outrageous cost of our less than okay meal. Being gluten and dairy free I hadn’t thought it would be an issue but as the menu didn’t have guidelines I didn’t realise until asking the server that basically none of the menu was available for me to order. Turns out they use soy sauce in almost every dish (tamari maybe considered guys?). So, I was left with the sashimi (the one really good dish), the tofu (zero dressing) therefore completely bland and tasteless, the ludicrously overpriced tiny salad ($16!! With only a few leaves and not alot else), the veggie japchae (again bland and no flavour) and the rice and seaweed plate. It seems soy is apparently their only flavour component and without it they’re lost 🙁 My husband also tried the pork belly which was okay he said, and also the scallion pancake which he couldn’t even eat as was dry and not much flavour again.
To be honest the best thing all night was the kimchi! I hate to be negative but I think this “upmarket” Korean food is just a bit characterless! $200 for an unappetising meal which leaves you dissatisfied let’s just say we won’t be recommending it, especially when you’re only here a short while on holiday and every meal is a special occasion it really puts a downer on your special night.
Probably the best meal I've had in that area at that price point. It was wonderfully delicious and I would highly recommend to anyone.
Recommend you to order the course which js $58 per person. Everything except for the chicken and the beef/pork sandwich was so perfect. Even a big male person will be pretty much very full after the course.
Great for before theater. Very attentive staff. Caters to specific food restrictions
Food was incredible. Tofu the best as we’re garlic/ honey chicken wings.
Super food, nice neighborhood vibe and great staff.
Perfect martini and the best spicy wings!
Super cute and cozy place. They filled every seat in the house and I see why. The food all tasted amazing. I actually liked sitting at communal tables where you don't know you neighbor, but everyone is enjoying amazing food together. You need to like spicy food to come here, but it is so yummy!
Excellent quality and presentation, small space but comfortable and first-rate service, what else is important?
We did the chefs table and the food was really fantastic!!!!! A definite do over!
Amazingly tasty food.
Too much sauce on everything and redundant.
Amazing food. Service was great. Gave great recommendations. Small place. Decor great. Fun funky vibe.
Tre food and service was great. The price was so a bit on the high side for us but that’s very personal.
Popular energetic place
I prefer more traditional Korean restaurants nearer to Penn Station
I found Danji on the internet and based our visit on the positive reviews from others. We were not disappointed! We all thought the food was delicious! It was my first experience with Korean food and I loved all of the spices and sauces that are used. The shrimp and scallion pancakes and the pork belly sliders are fabulous! The space is small, but very cozy. It was a great value for the price. We will be back!
We absolutely loved it - did the tasting menu and cannot wait to go back!
The food was amazing! We got the citrus salad, beef bulgogi sliders, edamame and short ribs to split between the three of us. Each dish was perfectly prepared! We all agreed this was our favorite meal while in NYC. Perfect spot to have a nice dinner in a cozy atmosphere before heading to see a show nearby.
If you love Korean Food, you will absolutely love this place.
I will definitely be back!
Great food, great service!
If your in NYC, go and check this place out!
This was our second time at Danji. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is really wonderful. Without asking, they brought ice cream with a candle for the birthday we were celebrating. Don't miss the bossam, which we have had both trips. What a dish!
This is one of our all time favorites! Everything was great! Spicy yellowtail, Tofu w. Ginger scallion, and bossam were all fantastic!
Very small NYC restaurant, with a really cool vibe. Can’t wait to go back and try the entire menu.
The best Korean food I have ever had! Creative, tasty, festive...a great surprise.
We stopped by for lunch since we were craving Bim bop. The bim bop was a little small but very delicious. We also ordered pan fried gyoza which were excellent
The staff was super nice and I think it’s a perfect place for lunch
Some of the best food I’ve ever had. Truly memorable. Only complaint, it’s too tight and seating uncomfortable. I wasn’t able to completely immerse myself because the seats are too hard, and you’re on top of each other.
Amazing food. We did the tasting menu and it was too much food but spectacular quinine. Pear cocktail was exceptional as well. Thanks.
Food portion was too small compared to high price. We had 2 dinner order and I could have eaten them all by myself.
Would highly recommend for a pre-show meal. Food was very good and arrived quickly- which would be perfect if you have a show to catch. Great option in an area not known for good food
Danji is my favourite Korean in New York. It has never disappointed me. Good service and dxcellent food (tasting menu). Highly recommended.
Fantastic food - especially the tasting menu with beverage pairing. Such a gem of a restaurant in this area.
Superb cuisine. We had the prix fixe/tasting menu. More food than we could eat but good amount for younger folks. One of top 2 meals in last few months.
Good food and great staff.
Great find after theatre.
Nicely quiet compared to Times Square.
Great service and half price wine on a Sunday !
Food was extremely special - had the tasting menu.
Very casual neighborhood restaurant with great vibes and food. It is a little on the expensive side, especially if sitting at a high communal table but an overall very good experience.
Horrible experience. Much of the staff could be seen taking shots behind the bar throughout the night.
I’m 3 years sober and ordered a lemonade, they served me a drink full of whisky. Totally inappropriate. Food is good but the staff is a liability.
Lovely small space with amazing dishes. Even our teenage sons thought the food was amazing. Highly recommend!
Good place good food
This place rocks.
The food was fantastic. Great pre-theater spot. Definitely recommend the tasting menu.
We had a minor issue wasn’t immediately rectified by the manager, but it was resolved to my satisfaction in the end.
Second time there. It’s been a couple of years since the last time. Everything pretty good except the service which at the start was slow. Were there a while before our first attention.
We were seated at a communal table that seats 8 people. Once you get used to bumping elbows, it’s not bad at all. They have a full bar and the wines are decent. We decided to try the tasting menu for 2 and this is where the fun started. Every dish they served was outstanding. Excellent presentation and amazing flavors. Would highly recommend to anyone.
