At Danji and Hanjan we choose to use meat raised with no antibiotics or growth hormones. Our fish are caught wild and are not overfished and endangered. We try to use as much organic and local produce as possible and certainly do not use chemicals, such as MSG, to enhance flavors. No doubt these ingredients cost more but we believe the food we consume should be healthy and responsible as well as delicious.
What Insiders Are Saying
Four years after our first review, Danji is still the restaurant we recommend most in the Midtown/Times Square area.
Very expensive for ok food.
I was disappointed in the food. And I am a big fan of Korean food. Lunch specials center around Bibimbap, which I like. I ordered the vegetarian version which came with only the usual suspects. I have much better and more creative versions and for less money. The soup offered was miso, didn't seem interesting. Banchan dishes were extra charge and even then limited choices. The vegetarian dumplings we ordered were fried and a bit too much so. Neither of us wanted to us finish that plate. I don't often write bad reviews but sadly I found little to recommend. I had been looking forward to coming here. So many better options in K-town, I must say.
Food was delicious and although the menu is tapas style, the portions aren’t tiny. I’ll definitely be back!
The food was full of flavor and the right amount of “heat”. It was creative and beautifully presented. The staff and atmosphere were convivial. I would definitely recommend trying it!!
Delicious, patient wait staff explained all the unknown dishes. Half-priced wines outstanding bargain. Super bustling, not for relaxed dining experience. Nice for families.
Delicious food/cocktails and great service. Danji never disappoints. Recommend the tasting menu, which is a good deal and the right amount of food.
This is the second time we have visited Danji while in NYC. The food is amazing and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We were going to see a show afterwards and they were
very helpful in ensuring we made it out in time no problem. We will definitely be returning.
Absolutely delicious food. Menu has a great variety. Service was efficient. If you are uncomfortable at the high top table and stools, request a table in the back. Looking forward to a return!
Delicious lunch here -- can even get the dul sot bibimbap! Very nice staff and great low-key atmosphere with great food.
Danji has an upscale, simple, sophisticated vibe and great menu. The pre fix is a great tour of the menu - worth trying if you have time for a relaxed dinner. Whether main courses or tapas, all the food is beautifully presented and really good. Tucked away on a side street, Danji is our go-to for a great meal pre-theatre when we are in NYC.
Just a fantastic place for dinner, unpretentious and delicious!
Just because Fodors says it is great does not make it so
Perfect spot for dinner before a show! Super close within walking distance to most theatres.
Service was attentive and they explained which dishes were great. The drinks were very nice too!!
Who plays Heavy Metal music at a Korean restaurant? It was horrible music to begin with and way too loud for the business lunch crowd.
Love this place! Amazing food. Restaurant is tiny so plan in advance.
Outstanding creative food!
The tasting menu is a huge amount of food at a very attractive price.
Attractive, albeit small, location very convenient to theatres
Finally tried Danji and it lives up to it’s reputation. I’ll definitely be returning.
Danji was very good. The staff is lovely and the food delicious. Don’t let the rating posted in the window stop you from eating here. The city is in a mission to make money from this
Best chicken wings in Hell’s Kitchen.
Awesome, inventive dishes. Limited beer list.
Excellent food, excellent quality, always good service. It's all so good, it's difficult to hold back and not eat too much when going there pre-theater. Cute but a bit crowded environment. We keep going back for more
The food is beyond amazing.
It’s a small space but the spicy ginger margaritas and pork belly sliders are worth it!
Danji is a blend of fresh ingredients with
Korean flavors making a wonderful experience. The restaurant is tiny which makes for a intimate experience. Staff are a little cold but the food is flavorful, unique and delicious and worth the less than cordial service.
Solid place for high end Korean food nestled within a feat of interior design (tiny place; white painted exposed brick; somehow divided into three distinct dining areas with some beautiful touches). You're on top of your neighbor. The food was very good, although not everything was spectacular. The cat fish that was the main dish of the tasting menu we had was just ok (a bit cloying). The vermicelli noodles and the sashimi with hot pepper were both special.
We had a fabulous dinner before our show. We got our food quickly, service was great, the rice cakes were amazing!!!!!
Korean tapas, so not a typical Korean restaurant with table side grill. But very good food. Mushroom barley risotto was fantastic
Been there before. Love the food. Especially liked the scallion tofu
The food was excellent but unfortunately our waiter was rude, pushy and confrontational to the point we felt intimidated. We have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant and it ruined an otherwise very good meal. After he left, we complained to another one of the waitstaff and she was appropriately apologetic and understanding when we explained why we were leaving a very small tip.
Wonderful food experience. We tried several things and shared everything. The Spicy jalapeño margarita was amazing!!!
We didn't like to be sit with everybody on the same table but the food it s excellent and nice ambiance
Food is good but regarding the relaxed style, it is a bit pricey.
We selected this place for it's proximity to the theater - however it far exceeded our expectations and I would recommend this restaurant even if you are not going to a show. We especially enjoyed the shrimp scallion pancakes and chicken wings.
Very good Korean food with a great range of flavors. The chicken wings were a standout. The tasting menu is an absolute bargain and a great way to try a huge variety of delicious food.
Great service. First time experience and the staff was helpful in explaining the menu.
The tasting menu for 2 was delish! Must also opt in for the drink pairing. Will not be disappointed. The food quantity and quality was beyond expected.
The spicy fish cod was a little too salty but delicious. Too full by the end of the experience. Was a little disappointed. I wish they had the side dishes available in the beginning of the experience. The spicy KFC was really spicy... should’ve been the last dish since it was so filling.
I would recommend this place to others. Won’t be disappointed
We had a great experience at Danji! I loved the ambiance. Our service was excellent and food was fantastic! We will definitely be back :)
Tasting menu is delicious and filling. You won’t need a slice right after dinner to get full.
This is the third time we’ve been to Danji. The wonderful thing is that the food is consistently delicious, unusual and brilliantly presented. My favorites are the scallion pancakes and the wings.
Excellent vegetarian menu . Portions for medium still small !service adequate and friendly will definitely come back
