At Danji and Hanjan we choose to use meat raised with no antibiotics or growth hormones. Our fish are caught wild and are not overfished and endangered. We try to use as much organic and local produce as possible and certainly do not use chemicals, such as MSG, to enhance flavors. No doubt these ingredients cost more but we believe the food we consume should be healthy and responsible as well as delicious.
What Insiders Are Saying
Four years after our first review, Danji is still the restaurant we recommend most in the Midtown/Times Square area.
Unusual and tasty. Staff accommodated vegan request.
Great! Not like typical midtown restaurants.
We loved everything about this restaurant. What a great find!!!
Awesome awesome awesome.
After the show
Went for a late dinner after a theater show on 49th. This was perfect.
Quick service, but not rushed.
Small portions to share (Tapas style)... and great advice on what to choose. Everything was excellent.
Next time in NYC, I’ll be sure to return.
2nd time here. Great experience before. This time crammed against wall on communal table. Hot evening and not cool inside. Apps were great. But we shared a large plate which was terrible. $44 for short ribs that were mostly fat. What little meat there was tasted great, but $44 for a very few bites??!!
Food perfectly hit the spot, with a wide variety of options to choose from and share.
Super yummy, we ordered the dinner for two and loved all of it although I walked away too full!
The only complaint was that our table wasn’t ready until 20 minutes after our reservation - they gave us a free round of drinks to compensate which helped. Very good spicy ginger margharita. We did the tasting menu per person with all of their top dishes and wow - it was a food choice. Every dish was fantastic - generous portions and beautiful flavors. They even switched out the pork dish for 2 of us who don’t eat pork and replaced with a scallion pancake. The only disappointing dish was the beef slider of the day - a little bland and over salted - but everything else was exquisite. Even the ice cream at the end was special. The drink pairing was also a fun experience. The vibe was everything a hidden gem in New York should be.
The food was delicious! The shrimp & vegetable pancake was crispy and flavorful. Both varieties of Korean fried chicken were great, not overly spicy. The accompanying pickled daikon was a slightly complex melange of vinegary, salty, spicy and a hint of sweet. The yuzu lemonade was welcome alternative to standard lemonade. The relaxed, casual atmosphere and friendly wait staff made for a great dining experience.
Creative Korean influenced food. Some interesting and unusual combinations...creme fraiche and dill in a Korean rice cake dish? But it worked fantastically. And attentive but unobtrusive service. On top of all that’s: couldn’t believe the reasonable price!
Overall it was fine. Had the taster menu with pairing. Not too many courses 5 and tasty. No real explanation of the dishes.... pricey ... but it is NY.
Great Korean food, I would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
perfect as always....................................I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. the best bar tender , Service was well-timed and friendly, must try tofu, shrimp and spring onion pancake, kimchee fried rice.
Service was superb. The buck stopped there. Food presented very well, but underwhelming on the taste front. Seemed sauce was same or very similar for every dish. Chicken wings a huge disappointment. Beef sliders were okay, but shredded beef didn’t do it for us.
We like Korean BBQ. Danji just didn’t live up to the hype.
Love it there. Can’t wait to go back
We had the “danji” sampler of tapas (appetizers) $55 each person. The presentation was outstanding. The variety was extraordinary. The courses just kept coming. We did not quite know what we were eating at times but the flavors and textures were fantastic. We were blown away!
The cocktails were also out of this world. Unexpected flavors. I only gave 4 stars for service as I would have ordered another cocktail had it been offered.
Incredible. Food was amazing!
Great place food was amazing. Very small so make a reservation.
Excellent food. Very loud space, so difficult to have a conversation
Food and service were excellent. It's a little on the noisy side, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Would definitely go back.
So good, unusual but delicious food. The tasting menu was more than enough food -- wowed all the guests!
Amazing experience! The tasting menu with paired drinks was a fantastic introduction to the world of Korean tapas. Everything was delicious! I cannot wait to return!
Excellent food and service as usual !!
Exceptional in every way. We had the prix fixe—every course was absolutely delicious and the beverage pairings were unexpected and perfectly matched. The service was warm, efficient, and attentive. I’m still dreaming about the tofu and I didn’t think I liked tofu.
It was just ok. Fine fir after theatre in a Friday night. Open late. Best I could say about it
We had the tasting menu which was delicious. This is a go to spot before seeing a show in the theater district.
Outstanding! Food incredibly flavorful - so much so that we ordered another “round.” Service attentive and polite.
The food was amazing. I was looking forward to their kimchi poutine fries but they removed then off the menu. The braided beef was so tender.
All the food was amazing! The bossam is a must have, and both the cod and short ribs were outstanding. Some of the most unique flavors I’ve had, would absolutely recommend to anyone considering going.
Anniversary before theatre
Food is delicious & tasty! Especially loved the spicy wings. I would recommend to go with the small & medium plates, the large ones are delicious but expensive.
We called ahead to make sure they would be ok with my friends dietary requirements.
Our waitress often forgot about us. So much so we asked for a vegetarian menus for my gluten free vegetarian friend and she forgot until we reminded her 15 mins later. Then my friend had to send back her food because the kitchen wasn’t well informed no gluten.
Really good food. Inventive and delicious, everything we ate was a hit. A bit pricey for what it is, but close to the theater district and quick service and just plain yummy.
My only concern was that there was a "B" in the window, but the food was delicious and we really enjoyed it.
Service was nice. But, the food itself is not really worth it compared to the price.
All the dishes had the same flavour. The tasting menu did not meet our expectations. The tofu was amazing even for people that usually don't like tofu.
Great place. Great food!!
Service gave very good advice!
The drinks/cocktails was not very long...
Lovely quick service
