At Danji and Hanjan we choose to use meat raised with no antibiotics or growth hormones. Our fish are caught wild and are not overfished and endangered. We try to use as much organic and local produce as possible and certainly do not use chemicals, such as MSG, to enhance flavors. No doubt these ingredients cost more but we believe the food we consume should be healthy and responsible as well as delicious.
What Insiders Are Saying
Four years after our first review, Danji is still the restaurant we recommend most in the Midtown/Times Square area.
We had an amazing time. Got soaked by an unexpected rain storm on the way, and we’re greeted with kindness, towels, and a truly 5-star meal.
I would absolutely recommend this place amazing food, wine, and service! We made it simple for ourselves and took the 5 or 6 course meal which was preset meals, everything was wonderful except for me I would have rather had the last big meal before dessert as a meat or fish dish instead of a vegetable but thats me. Don't get me wrong the taste was still awesome, my wife LOVED it but for me I preferred some meat or fish at the end. Aside from that I highly recommend this place! Also make sure you make reservations the place is tiny but its worth it so make reservations! We are definitely coming back in the future and will ask them to just change the preset a bit by giving us a meat or fish dish at the end as a substitute : )
Great service and amazing food.
Unenthusiatic service, food is decent though
I went to Danji on the last day of the restaurant week. We choose a small "egg over rice" other than the restaurant week menu. It was SOOO delicious that I will definitely come back for it! I was full before I come to Danji, but then I ate more here LOL. Highly recommend~
Good fo get there early
The food was lovely. But since there is limited space you have to share a table with people sometimes. Which can ruin the chance for you to be chilling in your own experience. The people next to us were eavesdropping! Also they didn’t really help the server get by with our food - she had to pass one man’s chair multiple times. But our server was wonderful. Really attentive. Checked about allergies and made recommendations based upon that. If you want good value for your buck also enjoy the cocktails! So good!!
Food was excellent and service was great. Seating is tight but still has a great atmosphere overall
We were in New York and wanted to go to a special local place. This was it in spades. It is a 1 star Michelin restaurant. It is well deserved.
Delightful. Terrific experience, as always, but this time my friend and I ate like lords. We did both have some difficulty understanding our server, as we discovered after both thinking the other person was doing better than we were, and he delivered a different main course than we had ordered...but the food and drinks and atmosphere were so wonderful that we lingered happily over everything.
Delicious food, friendly service, small and cozy, good ambiance.
Great service. Delicious food. Intimate setting
Hidden little gem with very good food and amiable servers. The space is very cramped, but they do their best to accommodate. I would go back.
Highly recommend if you can make it for restaurant week, the value was great. Our server was super attentive, in a non-annoying way. I had written in my reservation note that we were coming for a pre-show, birthday dinner and she was sure to get us out on time - and put a candle in my boyfriends dessert to help us celebrate! Was a wonderful experience, hope to return.
Hands down the best meal we had in the city, and we went to some great restaurants! The food was great, service amazing, and they even brought me a little birthday ice cream. Would highly recommend the beef sliders, but really you can’t go wrong.
It is a nice little cute restaurant. I had lunch from the restaurant week menu. I guessed I made the wrong choice, I didn't like my food too (spicy for me). I tried my friend's miso soup cause she didn't want soup for lunch, and I liked that though. Worth a try if you come by but I wouldn't travel long for it.
Excellent service and food all round. Highly recommend the 8 course tasting menu that was superb.
Second visit and was just as awesome as first visit! Food and service impeccable! Highly recommend.
A wonderful experience all in all! The food was amazing and my friend likes the less spicy options since she’s not as used to the heat.
As usual, the food and service were amazing. The only downside of this place is the noise level. I could barely hear the person across the table from me and by the end of the evening, my throat was a bit sore from speaking so loudly.
Make a reservation for the RW dinner, and come hungry!!! It is the best RW experience I have had in years. Portions were large (we were stuffed by the end), the short rib and cod main dishes were unbelievably complex and delicious along with the accompanying banchan, and the bulgogi sliders need to become part of a fast casual concept soon because they were addictive!! The only less than stellar spot were the honey garlic wings and radish pickle - both were underwhelming. We were told the hot wings are much better by diners who were seated next to us, so now we know for next time. Even the sorbet and ice cream (nectarine was fresh and intense, toasted rice was such a nostalgic throwback) were noteworthy and the perfect way to end this meal. We will be back!!!
Delicious Korean tapas. Good for foodies! Ambience is not amazing but the food is the focus.
Expencive, but a nice evening!
Second time dining at Danji and both dinners were very enjoyable. Beautiful presentation, attentive service, most delicious and creative food pairings. Best Kimchi I have ever had
Excellent food and generous portions. Wait staff very personable and accommodating. KFC wings were a tad too hot. Otherwise impeccable. Tofu to die for!
Unusual and tasty. Staff accommodated vegan request.
Great! Not like typical midtown restaurants.
We loved everything about this restaurant. What a great find!!!
Awesome awesome awesome.
After the show
Went for a late dinner after a theater show on 49th. This was perfect.
Quick service, but not rushed.
Small portions to share (Tapas style)... and great advice on what to choose. Everything was excellent.
Next time in NYC, I’ll be sure to return.
2nd time here. Great experience before. This time crammed against wall on communal table. Hot evening and not cool inside. Apps were great. But we shared a large plate which was terrible. $44 for short ribs that were mostly fat. What little meat there was tasted great, but $44 for a very few bites??!!
Food perfectly hit the spot, with a wide variety of options to choose from and share.
Super yummy, we ordered the dinner for two and loved all of it although I walked away too full!
The only complaint was that our table wasn’t ready until 20 minutes after our reservation - they gave us a free round of drinks to compensate which helped. Very good spicy ginger margharita. We did the tasting menu per person with all of their top dishes and wow - it was a food choice. Every dish was fantastic - generous portions and beautiful flavors. They even switched out the pork dish for 2 of us who don’t eat pork and replaced with a scallion pancake. The only disappointing dish was the beef slider of the day - a little bland and over salted - but everything else was exquisite. Even the ice cream at the end was special. The drink pairing was also a fun experience. The vibe was everything a hidden gem in New York should be.
The food was delicious! The shrimp & vegetable pancake was crispy and flavorful. Both varieties of Korean fried chicken were great, not overly spicy. The accompanying pickled daikon was a slightly complex melange of vinegary, salty, spicy and a hint of sweet. The yuzu lemonade was welcome alternative to standard lemonade. The relaxed, casual atmosphere and friendly wait staff made for a great dining experience.
Creative Korean influenced food. Some interesting and unusual combinations...creme fraiche and dill in a Korean rice cake dish? But it worked fantastically. And attentive but unobtrusive service. On top of all that’s: couldn’t believe the reasonable price!
Overall it was fine. Had the taster menu with pairing. Not too many courses 5 and tasty. No real explanation of the dishes.... pricey ... but it is NY.
Great Korean food, I would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
perfect as always....................................I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. the best bar tender , Service was well-timed and friendly, must try tofu, shrimp and spring onion pancake, kimchee fried rice.
Service was superb. The buck stopped there. Food presented very well, but underwhelming on the taste front. Seemed sauce was same or very similar for every dish. Chicken wings a huge disappointment. Beef sliders were okay, but shredded beef didn’t do it for us.
We like Korean BBQ. Danji just didn’t live up to the hype.
