My boyfriend and I had my birthday dinner here at the lounge. We chose the lounge because we wanted to modify our order options. We were seated next to a lamp which gave us more lighting.
I ordered the 4 course and my boyfriend ordered the 3 course. We were able to pick from a small selection. Everything was delicious and exceeded all expectations we had. Even better because it was my first time at a high end French restaurant, even better, my first Michelin star experience.
Our server Allan dis an excellent job making us feel comfortable. Food came at a reasonable speed, we were stuffed at the end! Our top too favorite was the Cashew dessert! Amazing.
We would definitely go back again. One downside was one person was talking a little bit too loud for the intimate setting at the lounge.
Amazing food and service. Our waiter(s) were extremely attentive and the food was perfect. Even got a tour of the kitchen and met Daniel. It was over the top incredible
Great the way they acknowledged our anniversary with a beautiful dessert and happy anniversary written in the plate
If you've never been to places like Daniel, Per Se, Jean Georges, Eleven Madison Park, the food is always the star, but the service is what sets them apart. You expect great service, and Daniel still seems to outperform expectations. You are waited on by several different people through your meal, and every one of them brings his/her own personality and expertise into your experience.
The tasting menu and the service were both outstanding. The only unusual thing I found was whoever designed the men's room sinks didn't allow enough room between the spout and the sink, so your hands end up touching the sink when you're washing up. Hopefully, this person is no longer designing sinks :-)
Highest recommendation for a romantic dinner, a celebration, or just to treat yourself.
We did not end up eating in the lounge. The couches were not really comfortable for eating dinner. We asked to be seated in the dining room and had the most amazing experience. It was everything you would imagine a Michelin rated restaurant to be. We did the 7 course tasting and I had the higher tier wine pairing. Every bite and sip were perfect. The wait staff was incredibly knowledgeable and explained every course and every wine. When I expressed a particular fondness for one of the wines I tasted, the waiter poured a little more... It was a special night for a special occasion and we were not disappointed.
This restaurant is extraordinary. The food, the service, and ambiance was and is absolutely spot on. My wife and I were so impressed with every aspect of our experience. The service staff was exceptional and the food was as well.
Amazing experience. Food was incredible. Service was impeccable. Even got to meet Daniel Boulud who was so very nice
A truly exceptional dining experience for the perfect birthday dinner! We went for the four course tasting menu and every single dish they brought out was really incredible. Prices are high but far from outrageous for the NYC market and certainly well worth the little splurge for a special occasion or date. They also offer an extensive wine list that to our surprise still offered a decent selection in the sub $200 price category. Was a little concerned that we might be neglected/dismissed in the “lounge seating” but that was absolutely not the case and all the waitstaff were highly attentive. We’ve finally found a NYC restaurant that lives up to the hype and will definitely be visiting again!
Food was incredible. Service was spectacular. Sommelier didn’t seem terribly knowledgeable or really care what we were looking for. He convinced us to go for a $300 bottle which was good of course but not what we were looking for. After the fact I was disappointed in myself for just going with his suggestion.
Probably the best meal we have ever had and that includes Europe! The lounge is the place to be since it is less formal than the dining room and very comfortable with exquisite service. This dinner was absolutely worth the price. Perfect meal, complimentary second dessert (birthday), warm madeleines and canelles to take home for breakfast. And as a bonus, a printed menu with our dinner and wine choices given to us upon departure. FABULOUS.
We are sorry to say that our first time at Daniel on Saturday June 22nd did not bring us the experience that we expected. The environment was cozy. However, as first-time comers, we are not familiar with your menu and how things work. It’d make us feel more at ease if a clear explanation of your menu was offered. We expressed our interest to start with the cocktails. Since both of us are not even social drinkers, we asked a waiter to explain the cocktails. He was kind and nice, but did not seem to be knowledgeable enough or able to provide what we needed to know. When we were given the dinner menu, knowing how it works seemed to be assumed by the waiter and it was not explained clearly. It’d give us a warmer feeling if we were asked if we had any questions. We did not realize how much time had passed. When our unfinished desert plates were taken away without asking us if we were done, we felt uncomfortable. We would very much appreciate if someone could let us know that the table was being waited. We would be very happy to cooperate.
Even though we did not feel welcomed and attended well, a staff/waiter who gave out bread that evening, made a big contrast of our experience. His smiles and warm attention whenever he came around our table gave us a sense of relief and comfort.
Halibut was possibly the best thing I have ever eaten!
Waiter was not gracious perhaps because we were not VIP clients even though in fact we are. Unfortunate that some personnel are jaded rather than elegant in their attitudes. Having attended numerous banquets and evenings there was disappointed.
Everything was absolutely stunning, can not recommend more
Everything was great with the observation that perhaps the lounge could use an update in decor....felt old and sort of damp
Went there to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was a great from start to finish. Most importantly she felt fantastic and the team made her feel super. The food was good.. it's my first time to such an experience and the food.. while immaculate and superb in presentation and taste.. was huge by size as well (May be I'm just not used to this and the long waits between courses) but these are subjective. Overall 5 star or more for the way my wife was treated.. and for making our occasion truly special. Even their little giveaways...let the Daniel taste longer on after leaving the restaurant.
Excellent in every way. Food and service were 5 star
Excellent food and experience as always, although service was a bit slow this time, feeling a bit ignored compared to nearby tables arriving later, and initial wine taking far too long to arrive. Unusual for Daniel, but noticeable this time. Perhaps short staffed this evening?
Everything was great
Restaurant Daniel made our 5th wedding anniversary special with delicious, beautifully presented food and excellent service as usual. I've dined in the dining room twice and this was the first in the lounge seating area - they did not disappoint. They brought out an extra dessert and printed special menus to commemorate our anniversary, which was a nice personal touch. It was even more special as it was the first dinner post my husband's cancer surgery so we appreciated them making the evening memorable!
Very nice place, extensive wine list but very $$$$$ wait staff was awesome!
Having just returned from Paris, I felt like my holiday was extended! Terrific food, service was impeccable, wine pairing with 4 course menu was perfect. The team was extremely attentive and celebrated with us. The meal was pricey but oh so worth it. I also like the lounge seating area which is a little less formal but perfect for a romantic evening.
Daniel NEVER fails to deliver anything other than a memorable fine dining experience.
Beautiful dinner party for 30th birthday - very special
Definitely going back
Good food but very “safe”, I’ve hoped they would experiment a little bit more and surprise their guests. Because of that we thought the restaurant was to expensive compared to the value.
Otherwise great service and ambience.
Spectacular food with service that you would expect!
The service was phenomenal; very attentive. The value for the quality of the food was poor.
Wonderful experience in the lounge, we so enjoyed the lovely service, especially from our waiter Greg who took wonderful care of us and made the meal very fun. The food is spectacular and the desserts are stuff of dreams. Daniel is the best... thank you for a wonderful celebration for my sister’s birthday.
We did the 4 course tasting with our two children (both 12 & under). Everyone loved the food and service was excellent.
This was the quintessential NYC dining experience and one I had hoped to experience on a very special occasion. The level of detail, attention and care taken to ensure we would have an exceptional evening was second to none, and even better in the lounge as the space is much more intimate. The tasting menu with wine was meticulously curated and the food, transporting. Merci Mssr. Boulud and staff!
Amazing dining experience! Can' twait to retutn
It was a miss understanding in our reservation but they promptly correct it and provide us an outstanding experience:))
Amazing experience at Daniel - the wait staff was attentive and the food was impeccable. Definitely a highlight of all of my dining experiences!
The service was unmatched and the food exquisite, all coordinated like a beautiful ballet!
A big cost for two on a big birthday, but with a bill of $660, we came out hungry and not in the least merry. $85 each for wine pairings each got us 4 * 2-3 oz. pours over 3 1/2 hours. Most of the time we sat there drinking water. We went to the Ritz Carlton afterward and were grateful for a $20 (not the cheapest) full glass of wine and a big bowl of nuts (BTW - we are skinnies!) Food was on the bland side. We have loved Brushstroke (worth every penny!) and Jean-George (fabulous!), but Daniel was a big dissy. Our waiter was terrific, but obviously not allowed to pour us a reasonable glass of wine. Hurrumph!
Note that they don't address the complaints online, but request that they call you! Still annoyed that it ruined my husbands 60th.
We enjoyed the lounge seating as it was quiet and more intimate than the main dining area. We were not impressed by the food: good presentation but taste was not to our expectations.
The service was good but not exceptional : they forgot the birthday cake for my girlfriend although I asked for it a week before and got a written confirmation.
Overall an okay-ish experience.
