A big cost for two on a big birthday, but with a bill of $660, we came out hungry and not in the least merry. $85 each for wine pairings each got us 4 * 2-3 oz. pours over 3 1/2 hours. Most of the time we sat there drinking water. We went to the Ritz Carlton afterward and were grateful for a $20 (not the cheapest) full glass of wine and a big bowl of nuts (BTW - we are skinnies!) Food was on the bland side. We have loved Brushstroke (worth every penny!) and Jean-George (fabulous!), but Daniel was a big dissy. Our waiter was terrific, but obviously not allowed to pour us a reasonable glass of wine. Hurrumph!
Note that they don't address the complaints online, but request that they call you! Still annoyed that it ruined my husbands 60th.
We enjoyed the lounge seating as it was quiet and more intimate than the main dining area. We were not impressed by the food: good presentation but taste was not to our expectations.
The service was good but not exceptional : they forgot the birthday cake for my girlfriend although I asked for it a week before and got a written confirmation.
Overall an okay-ish experience.
Unbelievable
Just amazing. Best service I have ever experienced. Not at all snooty, very smart, polite, and fun staff. Food was outstanding and an experience in dining! Atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Just an overall wonderful place.
The staff were very friendly and attentive- they made you feel as if it were your local restaurant. Food was amazing and wine list was huge. The lounge was quiet and very comfortable.
Absolutely great. A chance to put together your own abbreviated, somewhat more casual Daniel “tasting menu”, with the same attention to detail that you’d expect from the dining room.
There is a casual, sophisticated elegance in the Daniel lounge. The food is superb and fit for foodies in spite of all of the food sensitivities I have. The service was possibly the best that we have experienced at other 5 star restaurants in other major cities.
Excellent fine dining experience. Special thanks to the Sommeleier for the well chosen wine pairing. I would highly recommend lounge seating over the standard seating for parties of 2.
One of the most amazing places we have ever dined. Inpecable and unbeatable service. Beautifully presented food. And the many tastes delights the buds! If you are looking for some place special to celebrate something big, then put this at the top of your list!
Simply outstanding. The best!
Last night I fulfilled the dream I've been cherishing for over half my life, of having dinner at the celebrated restaurant Daniel of Daniel Boulud. I wish I could tell my 16-year old self that it was everything I'd dreamed it would be and more. My husband and I each ordered the 4-course vegetarian prix fixe, and we actually got to choose every one of our courses from a dazzling array of options. The flavors of everything that we had were exquisite, the ambiance (we were in the Lounge) was beyond lovely, but what was truly divine, that made the experience better than I could have hoped for? THE SERVICE. I had heard great things about the service, so I expected professionalism and attentiveness, but I was not prepared for how NICE and lovely the servers would be! Beyond the four courses that were the formal part of the menu, we were regaled with an array of delectable treats - amuse-bouches, breads, delicate sweets, all kinds of miniature (but rich!) delights, and all of the servers who attended to us were so warm, friendly, and devoted to making sure everything was perfect. When the head server asked if we'd enjoyed ourselves at the end of our meal, I gushed about how after years of anticipation, I was finally dining at Daniel with my husband for our 5th wedding anniversary, and then as we were finishing up they surprised us with an amazing anniversary gift! The entire evening was magical, and an experience I will never forget.
Incredible-we has the most amazing meal and the staff were so attentive-loved it!
Love this place - it is always superb and our friends enjoyed too - really great experience - thank you
Outstanding service, the sign of a top restaurant. Fun ending- we were given a "menu" that listed all the dishes we ordered and a small boxed canele upon departure.
Amazing foi gras. Best in class. Creative proposal, diversity of French option with an international touch. Experience and hospitality : superb! Must experience!
Perfect dining experience - Food, wine, service, pace. All perfect. If there were anything I would like to change it would be the sofa-type seating along the wall. Just not a fan as I prefer a regular chair. That being said, we had a wonderfully romantic corner seating, which was great. Loved it and will definitely be returning!!
The restaurant is gorgeous but a tiny bit tired. The real problem was the Waygu beef. The carrot and onion sides were cold and the beef overdone. Very disappointing and surprising. Other courses were delicious but this was a big mistake at these prices and level of dining.
Always enjoy any visit to Daniel. The attention to detail is outstanding. We also very much enjoyed the wines suggested to pair with our meal.
Daniel had been a restaurant I always wanted to try but never was able to make it happen until recently. When I first secured a 6:00 pm reservation I was slightly concerned as we were dining as a family with my wife and twin 12 year old daughters. My kids are very adventurous eaters and can hold their own in any restaurant, however, restaurants of Daniel's caliber are not always as enthusiastic when they see children. My concerns were soon put to rest as at every touch point in the restaurant our entire family was treated with grace and professionalism. We all ended up ordering the four course prix fixe menu. From the amuse bouche to the mini warm madeleines at the end and every course in between our experience was top notch. My wife and I also opted for the the wine pairings with each course only adding to our dining nirvana. When the last course was cleared and we were each handed a copy of the menu of the meal we just experienced. Thinking our night had come to a close we were pleasantly surprised one last time. The Assistant General Manager asked if we would like a tour of the kitchen and meet the Executive Chef. We were escorted through the dining room and had the opportunity to "look behind the curtain" and see first hand how a high end kitchen operates. Chef was gracious enough to put his expediting duties on hold and invite us all behind the line and have a group picture taken. As we left Daniel I could not help but think this could be one those dining experiences that may never happen again but I am so glad we able to share it as a family. Bravo Daniel!
The food was awesome (as always) and the drinks were interesting and creative.
Always outstanding food and service, extra romantic when you sit in the lounge seating
Haven't dined at Daniel in a while, mainly because reservations can be difficult. In fact, I booked a table at the lounge since that's what was available. We had an amazing evening! The lounge is a lovely and a bit more intimate Daniel experience. We opted for the four course tasting menu, although ala carte is also possible in the lounge, and we did the wine pairing. Each course was more wonderful than the next and we added a cheese course before dessert. It was paired beautifully with a fortified French wine. All I can say is, we will be returning as soon as we can. Highly recommend!
Food was very flavorful, great wine, best service.
Wonderful experience. Best restaurant for taste!!!
An extraordinary culinary experience. An evening full of delicious surprises. And it didn't end there. When we were leaving we were gifted a little jewel box with a chocolate covered canele, which we at the next day. Divine !
I love this restaurant - the food is always wonderful as is the service - we had gone to celebrate our 6th anniversary and they made it a lovely evening - thank you for a great time
Excellent cuisine; lounge seating very intimate-quiet, cozy, non-intrusive. Phenomenal selections with exquisite plating. Staff extremely attentive and setting a very high bar for service.
I rank this restaurant 3.85 out of 5 great service memorable experience but for me I was limited to a few dishes because of my allergies to fish. And most disappointing was the creme brûlée the pistachio filling was overwhelming.
My husband and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary and the upcoming new baby. Daniel Lounge did not miss a beat and took great care of us the entire time. I let them know at the beginning of the meal that I was early in my pregnancy; they gave us a small gift of a baby bib at the end of our meal. We ate the 4 course pre-fix menu and got a few small treats along the way.
I would highly recommend Daniel Restaurant!
Surprise birthday party for my wife. Personalized menus with 4-course dinner. Everyone raved about the food and attentive service. Perfect evening all around.
stupendous, as ever. food was over-the moon, service and ambience 11 on a scale of 10.
I didn't realize the restaurant was so quiet and lovely. I did expect the food to be wonderful and it was. The service was attentive and unobtrusive. Each time we neared the end of our butter, it was whisked away and a fresh butter plate arrived. The fois gras was sublime, the langoustine appetizer a delicious medley of flavors. The staff noted that it was my birthday and made an effort to make it special. All in all a wonderful memory. Will definitely go back again.
Somehow we had managed to miss out on Daniel on all our many previous visits to NYC, so we decided to fix this oversight on our latest visit. We decided to try out the 'lounge seating' area as this offered flexibility to move away from fixed-course dining which we usually try to avoid. They had a nice corner table for us, as requested, and offered us the la carte choice while we enjoyed a glass of wine as an aperitif.
Unfortunately, there was a wedding party in the function room and the door to the lounge kept opening to allow people in and out. Our server apologised for the disruption and offered to sit us elsewhere in the bar area or possibly in the main dining room. Eventually, we decided a move to the dining room was the best option if we were going to have any chance of enjoying the evening. So off we went to the best of both worlds - a la carte dining choice in the heart of the restaurant.
Sadly, the rest of the experience was a little disappointing, particularly the service. Our new primary server was really not to our liking - too loud and brash with no thought of trying to make our experience special. One appetizer was excellent (langoustine), the other an unbalanced lobster salad rather overwhelmed with fennel and the main course of sturgeon was very good. Some of the breads were good (brioche) others, just so so.
I guess, overall, it just wasn't what we had anticipated. For such a formal restaurant held in such high esteem, we expected service levels of the kind you experience at, say, the Waterside Inn in the UK, because excellence in service is essential if you want to fully enjoy your food . . . and allows you to overlook any small shortcomings. Surprisingly, on the food front, I would say that Gabriel Kreuther delivered better when we visited the day before, and provided much better value for money. Sorry to have reached that conclusion, Daniel!
Fantastic food and great overall experience. Ordered the 4 course tasting - would highly recommend.
Daniel never disappoints.
Always such a respite of style, elegance, and truly inspirational cuisine that makes you forget all else outside its revolving door!
Chef of pastry is an artist!
Amazing experience! A+ Service!!!
Birthday celebration!
Food quantities were very small .
Our waiter, a gentleman from Bangladesh, was outstanding . He made us feel very comfortable in the restaurant and was always making sure that we were taken care off well . His suggestions were good
One of the best French restaurants we've ever been to!
Service and food was excellent. The lounge was less formal that the main dining room but certainly nice enough to compliment the fine dining.
Great server, Babar.
