   We took our new inlaws from Memphis there last night and DG was a big hit. They loved the wine selection and then ate half my fried oyster appetizers. Then they dove into their main course , pork picante, which they loved. My wife got the filet and I had the grilled snapper, both delicious. We are very picky about where we're seated ( since restaurants try to shuffle old folks to the cheap seats) so we changed and picked a table we liked. Great wait staff and we really had fun. DG is an institution !

    We really enjoyed our meal! Our server, Paul, was attentive and friendly and made some great suggestions that proved to be excellent choices. Concerned about noise levels from other reviewers, we asked for a quiet table. This would have required us to sit in the front bar area, so we opted for a seat in the main dining room and while it got a bit noisy once full, it wasn’t anything that made conversation difficult or the experience hard to enjoy. The pace of the meal was fantastic. And amen… this is a restaurant that still understands the importance of a lovely serving of warm bread. (Makes me crazy when fine dining spots act as thought nobody cares about bread anymore. That is absolutely false!) Everything was quite delicious with the exception of a chocolate cake dessert that was really dry. Our other 3 desserts were just fantastic. We’d come back to dine here again without hesitation. We were comfortable, well-fed, and had a really enjoyable family meal.

    Our dinner was with some first time patrons. The restaurant was very lively and it was hard to hear each other. Food was a little slow to be ordered but we were talking so much we really did not have an issue with it. Food was fantastic for everyone.

    table was ready on time. host knew us by name. server requested, Derek, was his usual friendly and helpful self. food was outstanding. we both had white fish dish but each had a different set under, both were excellent. the white fish of the night was grouper and the quality was outstanding.

    Best Southern food I have had in a long, long time! Unbelievably delicious!! Each and every morsel of food my husband and I ordered was divine. I can't wait until I return to Birmingham, AL as I will always make this restaurant a "must!" ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!

    The snapper was cooked well but everything else was overcooked. Pappardelle was inedible. Risotto cake was a hockey puck. Lamb chops were miniature. Service was great.

    The service and food were fantastic - fried oysters were excellent and the bolognese was also quite good. The room is very attractive but the noise level can get a little boisterous especially with a few large groups in the room.

    A friend recommended Daniel George for lunch, so we made a reservation for my husband's birthday. It was a great decision. Although parking was a bit of a challenge, a short walk was fine on a beautiful day. They seated us in a quiet area and we were well served. There were enough food options but not an overwhelming menu. We both had the hamburger steak with onions and 2 sides, for around $15! The lava cake with a candle was the right touch for the birthday. The decor of the restaurant was light and friendly. I'd like to come back in the evening with friends, but would definitely do lunch again.

    A great trip to DG. It is on the expensive side, but the service was excellent -- great teamwork by the staff. We were glad that we got there early. Above, I have recorded the noise level as moderate. A more complete description would be that it was quiet when we arrived, but was starting to get too noisy for quiet conversation by the time we left (which was probably around 7:30 PM). So: early if you want a quiet atmosphere, and later if you want something more lively.
