Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro
Dancing Bear provides a premium lodging experience. We bring the same commitment to excellence to our restaurant. Whether enjoying a romantic dinner for two or bringing the extended family together for a celebratory meal, we want your night out in Townsend to be a very special experience. We will offer a refined assortment of regionally inspired dishes — all served among elegant surroundings and calming wooded vistas.
Mother’s Day was the perfect reason to celebrate with a fabulous meal! I’m not sure what was the best, the bottomless mimosas, the deviled egg trio, or the beef tenderloin...but the winner turned out to be the stuffed French Toast. The service and food were incredible.
This is our 5th stay at Dancing Bear. We love staying and enjoying the Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro.
Food was absolutely amazing! Service was over the top. Drinks we severely delayed but that was it. Prices are high but we got exceptional and unique food.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. A great place with great atmosphere
Excellent food and service. Brunch is great addition. Only suggestion some selections should be bigger servings. For example, Mountain Man needs to have another biscuit with more potatoes and sausage.
Love the atmosphere of Dancing Bear. Friendly staff, great service and amazing food. Looking forward to my next visit!
Thank you for a great evening. Adjusting the menu to accommodate "no bacon" and a great wine and dessert suggestion. We are never disappointed.
A gem! Excellent in every respect - great service, delicious, creative food, beautifully presented, reasonable portions. Delightful outdoor setting, nestled in the woods. Firepit with S'Mores bar for relaxing after dinner .
Everything was great, however it took two hours to eat dinner. Service from the kitchen was very slow.
Dancing Bear is one of our favorites! Every time amazing food and service. We just made another reservation for Cinco de Mayo. We both had Chef Special. Every course was perfection. Great bartenders as well!
Delicious and wonderful service. We loved the fire pit and s’mores. What a great place.
The entrees were excellent. We will return next year for Easter.
What a wonderful way to celebrate Easter - the fixed menu was perfect and gave enough options for all to enjoy. Can't wait to try one of your wine dinners and hopefully stay over in a cabin.
Continues to be the best food, drinks, service, and atmosphere in the region!
Our server Maggie was very good. Very attentive but not pesky. The food was so different, perfect seasoning and presentation. It was a lovely experience
This place came highly recommended by some friends so I took my wife there for her birthday dinner. Beautiful secluded setting among lots of trees, flowers, etc. It was a rainy, cool day so they had a wood fire going in the big stone fireplace which added to the coziness factor. The food is excellent and beautifully presented. The wait staff are very friendly and attentive without being obstrusive. Overall excellent experience and we look forward to returning in the future.
An outstanding gem in the area! Truly unique and excellent food. Service was also outstanding. Absolutely the best meal we had on our trip, no question!
A beautiful spring dinner on the outdoor patio with family.
The setting is beautiful and the entrees were delicious but the service was very slow. We had to ask for silverware for our main course and salt and pepper because the salad had no flavor. It seemed there was some bread service but we never got any. The servers were nice but seemed very understaffed. For the prices charged, the service should be more attentive.
We asked another couple to join us at the Bistro, promising them a good meal and fun time.
I decided to order two “little meals” instead of one big meal. I had the Appalachian sampler board and bbq oysters. Both were outstanding. Really, more than I should have eaten. It was fun having a mini buffet delivered to the table. All items were delicious. My wife and one of our guests had the salmon special and both seemed to like it very much. My wife was disappointed in the heaviness of the added salt but it was tasty. The fourth diner ordered a salad and the bacon-wrapped scallops. She reported it was excellent.
Our evening began very nicely with our server. He was attentive and very pleasant. It became obvious, though, that as more customers arrived, he was being spread too thin and couldn’t keep up. I imagine they were short staffed for some reason but it really affected our enjoyment of that last half of our meal. Table cleanup and water filling were slow and coffee to finish of the evening was not delivered. Every time we saw our server, he was rushing something to another table, trying had to keep everyone happy. We appreciate his efforts and would love to have him again. I did mention my concerns to the manager as we left but his only response was, “Thank you for coming tonight”.
Again, the food was very, very good. The atmosphere was delightful on the covered porch.
Hidden Gem you need to go check out! Experience was 5 stars from start to finish. Great bar selection with lots of good bourbon that you typically cant find at other restaurants. Great atmosphere, courteous and friendly servers, excellent presentation of food we look forward to our next visit.
Dancing Bear is a favorite restaurant of ours as a special treat. We like to hop in the convertible and enjoy a beautiful 45 minute drive into Townsend. They make a wonderful vodka martini, although it is a little pricey. We shared an appetizer, followed by individual entrees. My husband enjoyed the Diver’s Scallops and I had the Appalachian Hot Pot. We sat outside because the restaurant was a little cool. Very nice evening all around.
Returning to Dancing Bear was even better than we remembered. Great service and food exemplary. Owner is actively engaged with guests. A jewel hidden in the Smoky Mountains!
Our daughter’s 21st birthday. Everything was great!
The food there is excellent, almost like the kitchen was trying to make a statement about the food quality and how good and how detailed it can be in a wooden lodge resort up in the Tenn mountains. Our waiter was overwhelmed and was not able to give us much attention, but his ancillary staff, hostesses, managers, water fillers were all excellent and pulled much of the waiters weight to give us attention we needed to have an excellent meal. The gluten free short bread cookie on the crème brulee was an extra special treat. I would recommend Dancing Bear Bisto to anyone who enjoys fine dining. Try to ask for a table to dine outside if the weather is nice. It is worth the drive out of Knoxville to get there.
I loved my food, but my husband's steak was not as good as it usually is. He was disappointed.
This was our second visit and it did not disappoint! We had the evening Shef special- a Blood orange and honey glazed Salmon which was wonderful. My husband enjoyed the Pork Belly. We will be back again and again.
We hope to one day find a green salad on the menu in addition to the salad vegetables😉
Great dinner! Great venue. I’m glad we went, and wish we had more days in town to go again. Maggie was great, all service was great.
Perfect setting for romantic dinner, great service, great food.
The manager made our 35th anniversary special with a tray of desserts.
The daily seafood special was outstanding, one of the best I have had.
The atmosphere is one of a kind in the woods and bonfire.
This was a treat for ourselves. Enjoyed the food and venue.
What a treat! We were in Gatlinburg for the weekend and had arrived early and wanted a great meal. Having dined at another of Shelly’s restaurants in the past we were looking forward to the meal, but the entire place did not disappoint. Definitely worth the drive!
Amazing place! Delicious food and great service!
The Dancing Bear never fails to deliver good food in a unique, comfortable setting.
Food was great!
Appalachian Bistro was absolutely perfect. The food was delicious and the service was incredible. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful. My boyfriend has quite a few food restrictions and they were so accommodating and helpful.
The ambiance was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. A really fine dining experience all around the board. I really recommend this place to anyone, so if you are in the area make sure to make a reservation and get there!
On busy nights they need to bring out entrees faster than 2 hours. Our entree arrived 2 hours after we sat down. Food is very good, not the first time we felt left alone and had to ask for a status update from mgt
