We really wanted to like this restaurant. We brought in friends from out of state. They wanted the downtown experience. Coming in from Plano, we were not impressed. As another review mentioned, the steaks truly don't taste aged and the quality is choice at best. Med-rare and void of flavor. Both the rib-eye and fillet equally dry and bland. Side dishes were tepid and Brussels sprouts mushy in a bed of bacon fat. Do not order the bone marrow. You will receive one 6" piece. For the price, it's an embarrassment. Bad night for the kitchen, sure. Short staffed, maybe. but when I mentioned the marrow, the server just said "I'll take it off" and walked away. He was equally distant when we asked for salt. Drinks took 20 minutes and the meal came five minutes after the appetizer.
I can throw out the "I've been in the business " line but the expectation for a seasoned restaurateur or novice should be close to perfection, at this price point. The staff should be in clothes that fit and shirts ironed.
I will commend the support/buss staff. Quick, responsive and polished. Drinks were great but the I-pad wine menu was handed to us with another restaurants menu and information loaded on it. Lunch might be a hit but dinner recommended here.
First time trying dallas Chop House, as we walked in we were greeted with very friendly staff. Our server was very nice, the wine was great. My husband had steak and lobster and it was very good, I had the quail and it was fabulous. We will be going back soon for the full menu experience.
Very disappointed with the quality of food. Ribeye steaks were extremely tough and no flavor. We were visiting from CA for the Cotton Bowl and had higher expectations for a premium resteraunt. To top it off there was a table were a woman was extremely loud, cackling and clearly had no regard for the other patrons trying to enjoy a nice dinner. The waiter was informed of her disruptive behavior but nothing was done to bring it to her attention. Overall we couldn't wait to leave.
Wonderful food and service with a romantic ambience. Parking is validated. We were headed to the theater across the street (the majestic). I was disappointed in the show, but not in this restaurant. They were having a private party on the patio with music, but it was quiet where we sat inside and the service was amazing. I just needed to turn my head slightly to my water glass to see it was already filled. My only regret is we had to leave for the show so we did not get dessert.
I did *not* have steak or chops but instead just had appetizers and enjoyed them, although I wish the steak tartare had been served with crostini instead of potato chips. The cheese plate had lovely choices with fresh berries, almonds, and dried apricots included. Get there early if you would like an outside table, especially one by the outdoor fireplace.
We loved this place! The wait staff was awesome! We loved our waiter, the help who bused our table.. both very polite and friendly! The food was different, but delicious and filling! The entrees ($20-$30, steak $50-$60) were exellent. The sides are ordered separate, but large enough portions for 2 people ($10-$13). It's a little pricey, so be prepared to spend some money! Very good first time experience, our waiter even went out of his way to allow us to try different things. hope y'all have the same great experience we did! :)
Very well made martini; oysters not great, serving on mound of ice tilts oysters so brine falls out of the shell; sides were good (Brussels & corn); wine list was a limited selection and heavily CA based, expected more European variety of reds for a steakhouse; steak was so-so, expected more flavor on a dry aged rib eye, also even though a rib eye is easier to mess up than a filet, expected better preparation since the restaurant is a chop house; peach dessert with salted caramel ice cream was very good; would come back for drinks, not for a meal though
I chose this place for my significant other's birthday in which I noted this in my OT rsvp. Finding the location was easy, parking was no hassle, and the host were very welcoming. We were seated promptly and our awesome waiter, Tom was very tentative and friendly. I ordered from the RW MENU and the bf ordered from regular menu. All in all, some items were amazing, others were complete miss.
We got the following:
Beef tartare- nice plate presentation,tasted superb
chili flat iron steak with corn, poblano pepper, sausage and fingerling potatoes - when it arrived, it had a sour odor which I thought was the steak. But I believe it was the sausage in the corn. Which in the end gave it flavor. The steak was sliced and cooked to medium perfectly. Flavor was decent for this flat iron.
apple pie ice cream - this apple pie as a popover was interesting. The salted caramel was a good hint.
Bone marrow- I was taken back by it. They took out all the marrow delicious part and created a mousse with it. Looking at it, you see a creamy white texture within the bone. I smeared it on the bread and really, it didn't have a hint of bone marrow. And If you've had BM before, you know what it tastes like..
lump crab cake- I enjoyed the cilantro/pesto mix that it was plated with.
50 day aged ribeye- got it medium and it was superb. Perfectly charred on the edges and inside was amazing. Great flavor as an aged steak should be ESP if it's been hanging out in a Himalayan salt room. Reminded me of a steak I've had at David Burke's in Chicago.
Corn maque choux- I couldn't believe how this came to be so bland. The ingredients itself screams ultimate flavor- poblano pepper, garlic cream, CRAWFISH.... but I couldn't believe how bland it was. I mixed it thinking the garlic cream need to be distributed evenly. But it didn't help. I think it was more so watery cream and not garlic cream. This, we did notify the waiter about. Bc I was in shock.
The service alone was great though!
