Dakotas Prime Steak & Chop House - Tyler
Our food was amazing, however we were there to celebrate 2 birthdays and could not even have a conversation due to the noise level. It was so loud we could not hear. Also the menu was extremely hard to read due to the lack of lightening. Several guests sitting behind us used flashlights to read their menus and inadvertently pointed them right in our faces.
Expensive but good quality steaks and prime rib. Service was excellent.
Place is very dark and noisy
We will be back,we really enjoyed our time. The service was excellent.
Wonderful food, did not disappoint. Pricy but worth it! Just didn't like seating near kitchen entrance.
I really enjoy Dakotas every time that I have been there. I do wish they would remove 1-2 tables from the main dining area to give just a little more space between the tables, it does sometimes feel like you're right on top of the next table. Overall this is a wonderful place!
Beautiful setting. Enjoyed steak and lobster for dinner, in particular - everything was delicious and so nicely presented. The service was beyond outstanding!!
Our server was especially helpful and pleasant. Service superior. Food was fantastically delicious.
We have been here before and received very good service then also.
We live in Houston and visit a friend in Tyler who we usually take out to eat. Dakota’s is our first restaurant to consider. 😄
For the price of the food, there is no “wow” on taste or presentation. We ordered calamari appetizer and all it appeared to be was frozen calamari out of a bag with with dipping sauces. Would have at least expected it to be sautéed with peppers, onion with a lot of flavor. Too basic. We order stuffed avocado, sea bass and filet for dinner. Best item was the stuffed avocado appetizer. It was unique and different and good presentation. The pecan crusted sea bass was not pecan crusted. I showed our server and she said, “there are plans there”.....really but flavor was good. It came with carrots and a rice pilaf, both of which were very basic and no “wow”. The filet was good and was properly cooked but again the carrots and other side were very basic. Just expected more based on price. Will probably not go back except to sit at bar and listen to the band that was there which was very good.
My wife and I went with another couple on a Friday night. The place was pretty busy, which was a little surprising because the last couple of times we went it seemed a lot more low key. Our service was extremely slow even though our server was almost always in sight. When the food came out after being there for an hour, they brought me the correct sides, but wrong steak. I ordered a ribeye, and was served a filet. When they corrected the steak issue, it came out very well-done, though I ordered medium rare. All in all, it was a pretty frustrating visit, and completely not worth the high-end prices.
As always, the entire Dakota’s experience was excellent. Fantastic service, amazing wild salmon, melt in your mouth bread, and great wine. We’ll definitely be back soon!
The food was great! The service was great! The band (Slickrock Hoodoo) was terrific! There was 6 of us in our party and all are non smokers. There was an employee that had apparently just gotten off duty and changed his clothes and sat at a table next to us where they had no consideration for the smoking ordinance nor for our preference of a non-smoking area. We actually went to hang out, enjoy our meal and listen to live music. We ALL got up and left. As an employee of this establishment, you would have thought that they and the mgmt. would take the patrons into consideration when lighting up &/or vaping.
First time visiting and I was not impressed at all. Its dressed up like a fancy steakhouse with prices to match but nothing was up to par. No one wiped crumbs from your table after each course, it was so dark in the entire dining area that was hard to see exactly what you were eating or if your steak was cooked correctly. My husband had to use his cell phone to read the menu and check the status of his steak. The food was okay, not great and especially for the price. Service was odd and it started at the front desk upon checkin with our reservation. Probably won't be back and definitely wouldn't recommend.
We had a great dining experience. Thanks for asking.
Parmesan Crusted Filet was unbelievable, and the lobster Mac & cheese was to die for!! Interior decor is beautiful, and was one of the quietist dining experiences we’ve had in a Very Long Time!
Chose Dakotas while alone in town for one night. All the staff was very friendly and attentive. I made some requests with my order, and all were accommodated without question. Food was cooked to perfection, and was delicious.
I was seated in a private room with one other couple. There was a large group right outside our room, that was very loud. I asked the waiter if he wouldn't mind closing the door, and he did. The other couple thanked me for doing so, and we ended up having very pleasant conversation over our dinners. Turned out to be a great experience. Will definitely be back next time I pass through!
Celebrating our anniversary and Dakota's was a perfect setting. We enjoyed the quiet, relaxed atmosphere.
The steak was the best I've had in a long time. The service was excellent and we will definitely come to Dakota's for future celebrations.
The Wygu Ribeye was not as good as last year and the carrots/twice baked potatoes were dry from over cooking. We’ll try again next year.
Food, service and ambiance all excellent!! We always bring friends with us and they agree with our assessment.
Filet was excellent, service wonderful, plan many more trips to Dakotas.
Food was excellent, service was outstanding & the obeisance was wonderful! Great evening for our family of eight!
Thank you Dakota’s
Great food!! Service was excellent
We were in Tyler for a get-away weekend and we chose Dakota's because of the website and the reviews. We were looking for a nice place to have a great dining experience with very good food and in a "date night" setting. With all but one exception, Dakota's delivered perfectly. The food was very good, the service was top notch. We were seated in a relatively small room (just two other couples there when we arrived) and everything was great. But not too long after we arrived, a live band started playing on their patio. And the music was loud, thumping, rock and roll type music. It pretty much drowned out the soft music that had been playing in our room when we arrived. We had to raise our voices a little higher to hear each other (as did the others in our room) and the deep base, thumping of the music outside was very annoying. Almost ruined an otherwise great evening.
Very very dark, had to use small candle on table to read the menu. My Rib Eye steak was so tough I couldn’t cut it with the steak knife. The lollipop lamb chops were very good. Overpriced fir the quality
My date and I had a great time. Excellent food, service (young lady named Toni) and timing.
We absolutely loved Dakotas. The food was incredibly good. My brother-in-law thought it was one of the best steaks he had ever had. The service was impeccable, friendly and more than willing to help you find something you will love from the menu. We spent time in the bar and ended up eating in the bar another night we were in town. Thank you to the entire staff but especially to Eleshia(sp), we came back because you were so amazing!
The service was responsive to our needs. Wait staff was explained the details of our choices and made recommendations based on their tastings. The meal was cooked to our liking without being over or under cooked.
As always the food and service was exceptional! I would highly recommend this place!
The host handled our reservation without issue. We frequent the Dakotas in Downtown Dallas and were excited to try this location for a Mother's Day dinner. The overall ambience of the restaurant was great. When we go back, I will make sure I do not get the same waiter though. I am fairly easy going when it comes to wait staff, I was once a horrible waiter, but I did not care for our waiter at all. He was very hard to understand (mainly due to the speed in which he spoke and the lack of pause between words) and I did not appreciate his condescending tone on a few occasions. My pork chop was slightly overcooked but all in all the meals came out as ordered and were top tier. Again, my overall review would have been higher if it weren't for the waiter. I will be back.
Don’t get me wrong the food was done well but I just don’t think it’s quite worth the amount charged. Jeff served us this evening and he was very good at what he does and so pleasant. He was probably the highlight of the night other than spending time with my bride of 20 years of course.
The best thing I can say about our experience is that our waitress was a class-act young lady.
Upon entering the restaurant we weren’t even greeted by the young lady at the hostess station. Very poor people skills which I attribute to poor training. We’d had a reservation for several days in advance but we’re seated at a noisy table in a high traffic area. To their credit, after a few minutes they moved us to a far quieter location; again, the hostess should have handled this before we we’re seated the first time.
The food was marginal. Rib eye steaks are of course beef marbled with fat, but I’d never had a fat steak marbled with beef. For $50 no less.
We won’t be returning.
Mother’s Day dinner
Food was not as good as past visits. Perhaps it was just an off night for the chef. I was surprised to see a really relaxed dress code also. It was much more conservative in the past.
My wife and I ate here for our date night dinner. We loved it in every way. Low light settings great service and the food was well worth the money, best steak I’ve had in years. We will be back.
We had a reservation and upon arrival were immediately seated. The food and service was outstanding.
Great seating position, wonderful staff, quiet, and fantastic food.
Excellent atmosphere, great tasting food, tender delicious steaks, friendly staff! Will definitely be back!
My wife and I enjoyed the very best fish dinner at Dakotas to celebrate her birthday. She left telling me that it was the best fish she'd ever eaten. That's saying alot coming from a gal raised near the water.
We had a friend tell us that Dakotas was pretty pricey but the waiter suggested that my wife and I split a 20oz ribeye and it was perfect! The meal, vegetables & and steaks were excellent and delicious. The price was reasonable for what we got so we will definitely be going back and soon!
Very nice experience and delicious meal!
