24-year veteran of the restaurant industry, LaCour oversees the restaurant's operations, in addition to hand-selecting its impressive and extensive wine list. In fact, it is LaCour's passion for exceptional wine that takes him to the California wine region at least twice each year. Often, LaCour brings Dakota's managers and waitstaff with him as an educational experience, teaching them the art of winemaking and rousing in them a passion for and knowledge of fine wines. After sampling many special and hard-to-find wines while he's in California, LaCour selects his personal favorites, adding them to an impressive wine list that features more than 350 wines.
where the focal point in the center of the room, is a runaway display of ordinary- to multi magnum-sized bottles of rare wines from California and Europe. In the past several years, The Dakota's wine list has earned the Wine Spectator's Distinguished Award of Excellence.
The 175-seat restaurant with Louisiana influenced chic decor, styled by Beth Walther, A.S.I.D, is comprised of four dining areas. The entranceway reveals the main dining room to the left with a vantagepoint created by the grand floral arrangement. An inviting and cozy bar to the right sweeps you into the smaller dining spaces with tables placed at a distance from one another to provide the perfect backdrop for a romantic tete a tete. The dark wood wine room suggests the ambiance of a gentleman's club.

Excellent and enjoyable, as always!
My husband and I went here on Valentine's Day. It was quiet, the service was fantastic, and the food was delicious. There was a special menu for Valentine's Day. We started with the lobster blt appetizer. It was very yummy. The portion size was quite small (I prefer more share-able appetizers), but it was a nice tasting before our meal. My husband didn't love the fish but he is a very picky eater. His dish seemed to have a very small portion. I had a filet Mignon and it was phenomenal. Perfectly cooked and very flavorful with delicious gravy and mashed potatoes with leeks. It was a perfect amount of food that is filling but won't leave you needing to be carried out of the restaurant. I also had asparagus added to my meal and I wouldn't recommend it... it seemed canned and not fresh. It was the only part of my meal that wasn't perfect. Lastly, we had the white chocolate brownie for dessert. We ate EVERY BIT of this thing. It was soooo delicious and filled with rich dark chocolate. Overall we had a great night here and will likely return for another date night.
We went to Dakota for Valentine's Day. They had a special menu but the number of choices and variety of food was more than adequate. We both had the crab and brie soup (a Dakota classic) and for an entrée, I had the lamb chops while my wife had the veal. Both were delicious. While Dakota is one of the more established fine dining restaurants on the North Shore, it is still one of the best.
It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary and they really took great care of us!
The food is delicious. The service is excellent. Dakota is a great restaurant.
Great food, great atmosphere, fantastic service.
Wow! Maurice and his staff took such great care of us. We went for a birthday dinner and asked for the chef's tasting menu with pairings. It was wonderful, extravagant, and worth every cent. We will go back again and highly recommend.
7 people-1 birthday, 1 retirement
I'd say that the food and the service had taken me by surprise. I'd never heard of this restaurant, but it was worth the visit. Great environment, amazing music, good food, just an amazing place to visit. Other places have the"name" but The Dakota is truly a dining experience that I'll revisit each time I'm in the area.
We had a wonderful meal and service. We will be back!!
Ambiance- quiet and relaxing
Wait staff very attentive. We enjoyed the food very much. Delicious!
Service and food quality were up to Dakota's traditional standards. We always look forward to dining there.
We enjoyed our evening. I liked how the server did not rush us and allowed us to enjoy our food.
Each meal here is more delicious than the last. Apps are fresh, delicious and creative, soups and salads fantastic, and I’ve really come to love whatever steaks they’re serving on their frequently-changing menu that smartly keeps the fantastic classics the restaurant is known for. Their by the glass wine list is also noticeably above average (even for restaurants at this level) and allows you to change up your wine choices to match your meal without sacrificing wine quality like you sometimes have to do when buying wine by the glass.
Keep up the great work Dakota!
Dinner was perfect. Steak was delicious. Crab and Brie soup is highly recommended. Only downfall was our server seemed uncomfortable. Never had this issue before.
The food was outstanding. The dining room service from the bar was too slow, but otherwise service was very good. I will definitely return.
The Service was outstandingly perfect! Rebecca was the reason everything was perfect. The special she recommended was great.
Food was excellent. Beverage service was very slow-they seemed to be able to serve only one beverage at a time with long gaps of time between.
